We were travelling over the Pyrenees from France to Spain and had intended to stay in in St Jean Pied de Port . As the logis we had chosen in town was closed for the night of our visit, we booked into this family run logis in nearby St Martin d'Arrosa. Four of us (two ageing couples) were welcomed most warmly. Our rooms were clean and comfortable with spotless bathrooms and the dinner was excellent and representative of the local Basque cuisine.

For anyone who wants to visit Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and the surrounding area of the Pyrenees without the hustle and bustle and noise of the town, this family hotel in a quiet village nearby would make an excellent night's stopover. The beds were really comfortable and we all slept like logs.

God knows how many times I've been to the restaurant here. Why is it one of my favourite places to eat in the world.
1. The owners. They are Basque hospitality to the core. Fun, welcoming, patient, (my French is awful) and just plain lovely.
2. The location. Nestled in a wonderful village in the Atlantic Pyrenees. Vultures circle overhead, warblers sing from the bushes. Beautiful.
3. The food. When you eat at a restaurant enough your bound to get a bad meal.... or so they say. I've never had anything other than great food here. The confit is stunning, the scallops to die for... and the creme brulee with grand manier..... Enough said.

It's simply lovely 💙

I've been to this restaurant many times over the years, but haven't been back for a couple of years as not in the area. It is as good as ever. Great quality food, expertly cooked, with a heavy dose of the local basque favourites. The whole menu is great, and inexpensive as well. The wine list features local wines plus really great house wines. The bar is a great place for a quiet beer, well stocked, and very smart. We really enjoyed the long, Sunday Lunch, (remember to book as it gets very busy with the locals, (always a good sign), as well as a number of evening meals. Finally the cherry on the top, is the staff, uber friendly, helpful and fun. Highly recommended.

This is probably a 3.5 rather than a 3....although I can't quite understand the references to luxury made by some reviewers. My room was fine, but it was just an ordinary hotel room, looking out on a yard. I'd booked a deal online, so maybe I was in one of the cheaper, older rooms? The food was also average - which was a bit of a surprise - but the service was very friendly (including a charming young woman who speaks excellent English - and was very patient with my poor French). I got the impression that the other diners on the night I was there were regulars, and that the hotel functions as a bit of a village hub - I was there out of season, so maybe it changes a bit in the summer? Overall, dinner, bed and breakfast were good value!

Madame, Monsieur, j'ai bien lu votre message.

My wife and I were visiting her family in the South West of France this past September and we wanted to explore St Jean Pied de Port before heading South to Spain. All of the hotels we were interested in in St Jean Pied de Port were sold out so we began to explore other options close by. Thanks to Trip Advisor we discovered this gem of a place and decided to spend a night here. Upon arrival we were greeted with smiles and joy from the entire staff (most of whom are family). We were given a great room and took advantage of the dinner that is included with the room at a certain price point. When the staff discovered that my wife was not only vegetarian but also gluten free they went far above and beyond to take care of her every need and make sure she had something delicious and appropriate for her dietary needs.

We had such an amazing night we decided to forgo Spain and spend another night at the hotel and explore the nearby Pyrenees region. We discovered a fantastic mountainside restaurant (the name escapes me) and drove along the beautiful road that takes you up and through the Pyrenees. Upon returning to the Hotel we were again greeted as if we were part of the family and I took full advantage of the amazing pool and indoor spa area and unwound in the Jacuzzi and Sauna.

We were terribly sad to leave as the Hotel and surrounding area are full of beauty and local charm and we had become so attached to the staff and the sweet little hotel Pug dog.

I highly recommend this hotel in every regard. Nice, comfortable rooms, great restaurant, excellent, central location to many many locales and activities and a staff that is family and treats guests as if they were also a part of the family.

There's a reason for so many 5 Star reviews and we feel honored to join those.

We can't wait to return!

Thanks

Can't fault this place if you are looking for rural family attitude, location, and approach to life then this is your place. The village is so peaceful and yet it has options all around for a multitude of foods, activities, or you can just sit there and relax whilst soaking up the beautifully clean air and amazing natural scenery. If you can't unwind here then you are in big trouble.

We stayed here initialy in 2003. Loved the village so purchased a terrain and built a house. So for the last 12 years have watched this wonderful family business evolve and grow. It is such a friendly environment and the cuisine is local Pays Basque style that is tops. You never lack for a smile, preferably from the ladies, and service is number one in the Lagourge book. Don't miss this gem of a hotel!

This hotel is in a beautiful setting surrounded buy countryside all around. Stayed here for just 1 night for a wedding party but would love to go back. The staff make the place. Lovely lovely people. Yes the rooms are basic and could do with an update but it seemed to be just right for the setting. The food was fantastic. Nice pool and facilities. Wow what a beautiful place to visit.

The hotel was easy to find and well located for our requirements. It is in lovely setting surrounded by open countryside, with parking right outside. We were given a very warm welcome by the English speaking host.

Our room was rather dated with thin curtains and fairly basic linen. However, it was very clean. Breakfast was continental and good. As it was almost 50% more expensive than the excellent hotel we had stayed in the previous night we were a bit disappointed with our room.

My wife, Springer Spaniel and I stayed 3 nights in this wonderful hotel recently. Everybody was superbly helpful, especially in relation to sorting out suitable food for my wife who'd been ill.
The food is outstanding and the room in the annex was spacious. The view was lovely, overlooking the Basque countryside. We will return next year and we cannot wait. Thank you to all at Eskualduna! Milesker.
