My wife and I were visiting her family in the South West of France this past September and we wanted to explore St Jean Pied de Port before heading South to Spain. All of the hotels we were interested in in St Jean Pied de Port were sold out so we began to explore other options close by. Thanks to...

Visited the restaurant last year and as back in the area visited again. Food just as good as last year, which is excellent. Simple yet great flavours. Also got to try new things. The lamb sweetbreads with peppers is superb and the Cafe Gourmand, perfection. Even though we could have gone to any restaurant in the area we visited it...

Can't fault this place if you are looking for rural family attitude, location, and approach to life then this is your place. The village is so peaceful and yet it has options all around for a multitude of foods, activities, or you can just sit there and relax whilst soaking up the beautifully clean air and amazing natural scenery. Left it a bit late to book in this area of Pays Basque, but from what we know now this would have been our first choice. Prices as a two-star hotel this has five-star hospitality and first-class Basque cooking - plus a pool, sauna and gym. A warm welcome awaited us, all the staff treated the guests as friends and...

In September a group of girl friends from Colorado spent 2 weeks hiking the Pyrenees. We stayed in the Hotel Eskualduna for 2 nights and had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant. They also made us lunches to take hiking. It was a fabulous trip. The restaurant served typical Basque country food, fresh and very tasty. The hotel rooms were...

Side stay at the hotel but ate at the restaurant. Lovely fresh local food, big portions and excellent staff. The pigeon was gorgeous as was the Basque style veal. Equivalent of £27 per head including wine, coffee and aperitifs. As Arnie said 'I'll be back'

Visiting this region in mid August can be hectic and this hotel provide rest from the Hell on Earth that Saint-Jean is during a weekend. The rooms are basic and a little crowded but clean and quite since the railroad in front of the hotel is not yet operational. Parking is free and the breakfast basic Continental except for the...

Delightful rural Basque hotel. Surroundings stunning, plenty of paths to explore on foot. And lots of vineyards and cheese producers to visit, if with car. Hotel beautifully kept. Food good. Staff helpful and fun. We would return.

We stayed here initialy in 2003. Loved the village so purchased a terrain and built a house. So for the last 12 years have watched this wonderful family business evolve and grow. It is such a friendly environment and the cuisine is local Pays Basque style that is tops. You never lack for a smile, preferably from the ladies, and...
