We stayed at “The Other Corner” On our last night, while returning from another trip, first time to the place and we booked on Trip advisor reviews and utterly disappointed, Concept seems nice and not sure whether this is after COVID Pandemic and in to bad cost cutting, our only dinner option was string hoppers, and two curries, So called continental western breakfast was poor, Reviews were really good and we booked purely to try out the place and even if the price was higher we would have still booked for the experience, this actually made me think we got to be careful reading the reviews and have to check what other place these people ( reviewers) have stayed, Rooms were badly decorated, Most staff looks pretentious, there were two dogs, they were rather friendly,

I recently stayed at The Other Corner for the twelfth time in six years. Whilst personnel have changed in that time, the existing staff maintain very high standards in all areas. Their warmth and friendliness is a redeeming feature of TOC. The ambience is one of calmness and serenity surrounded by a wealth of birds, mammals, insects, trees and flowers. The food is exceptional and generous. The rooms are comfortable, clean and well equipped. The nearby lake and walking paths offer further relaxation and wonderful birding opportunities. I never fail to leave TOC feeling rejuvenated and revitalised. The overall experience remains one that is incredibly hard to beat at the price.

Wonderful place, a real gem. If you like nature and a relaxing tranquil atmosphere then this is the place for you. It borders a natural lake teaming with bird life. At our request the manager organised a little sunrise boat trip, just us the boatman and manager, magical. All the staff were welcoming and friendly, they obviously love where they work. Very comfortable tree cottage with all the amenities, and the food was fabulous.

The other corner is our sort of hotel - away from the hustle and bustle of busy towns plenty of trees and greenery and villas private and well spaced. The rooms are rustic comfortable and clean. The bird life, butterflies and monkeys abound in the natural surroundings. The property backs on to a wetland which has excellent bird watching. A walking path on the bund takes you in to the local village. The restaurant produced yummy fresh food and the staff were happy and obliging. Unfortunately we visited when corona virus restrictions were in place we did however see some target bird species ... the pitta and nightjar. We loved this property and plan to return.

The idea is lovely, and the rooms looked very sweet, however the execution was not done well. I would not recommend this place. We read the other reviews about insects and thought that they were just complaining obviously you’re in nature that’s part of it all. We had 2 rooms (4 adults travelling together) both rooms had ants in the bathroom. Sitting around the restaurant there were swarms of mosquitos. The second night we went out for dinner and sat outside and not a single mosquito. Our entire trip we’ve barely seen a mosquito, but this place we left covered in bites. The restaurant was the biggest disappointment. We went to have a drink and we were told we weren’t allowed to sit in the restaurant with chairs, we had to sit on the stone bench, and look at the restaurant…

Thanks your review. I wonder if you have mistaken The Other Corner to another place you stayed. Yet it is very doubtful to imagine a type of such poorly executed property you will find anywhere in the Habarana region. Nevertheless we regret for the inconvenience you 4 adults had to go through aftre spending a sum of Rs 9000, abt US$ 50. Still we are priced more than amount you have stated, which wonders if you had this bad experience during your stay with us. If so, thanks for bringing it to our notice and it is rest assured will look into this mishap.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed our Sri Lankan dinners and western breakfasts very much. Unfortunately the condition of the rooms was too rustic for my taste, not bright enough inside the rooms and A/C was noisy and blowing right on the bed.

Very nice Hotel. Well looked After. Bit Garden area with wooden huts. The Hotel is already a Little bit older But clean and neat. Staff was very friendly and excellent food. Very flavourful and everything tasted different. Beer was always nicely cold. The Hotel Manager also went on a Walk with us to the lake nearby and Showed is the birdlife. Unfortunately only few guests.

It would not be everyone’s first choice but if you like quiet places where rooms are built in trees and nature is extremely important you will love it. The rooms were clean and the food was very good. We had some brilliant nature walks.

We stayed 2 nights at this amazing place. So many butterflies and birds! At 4pm loads of monkeys came down from the trees and entertained us on our treehouse veranda! Unbelievable! The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the food in the restaurant was lovely! We walked around the lake had a drink watching the sun go down which was amazing. The next morning we cycled through the villages to climb Sigiriya Rock. The views were well worth the climb. in the afternoon we did an afternoon safari! All in all a brilliant day!!
