As a hotel Critic, I always have my standards to judge if the hotel is good or not, but sometimes the weakness of five stars hotel will always be covered by their fancy decoration and complete service set. I had unforgettable experience here. Fota Island Resort is located in an island in cork, which is close to Fota Wildlife Park. I took the gift vouchers to spend two nights on classic room, but I felt unsatifised. First of all, when I called the hotel to book the room, they didn't answer me immediately after knowing gift vouchers, I had to call serveral times to check and it took two days to get the room. Secondly, the drain in the bathroom was blocked and the water spread to bedroom. I talked to cleaner and asked her to help us clean the room, she ignored us. Thirdly, I planned to go to wildlife park on the second day, we got "warm"help from hotel, but we were left at the gate for three hours without hotel driver picking up even we called receptionist many times after finishing tour in the park.(the driver told us to wait for there after visiting around 3pm,but he didn't show up). And we were told that we have to move the room since we weren't at hotel. Besides the unpleasant experiences, the hotel environment is very quiet and elegant. Especially the outside bar is very exclusive. Talk to the resturant, we ordered the medium raw steak, but the meat wasn't freash. we both had diarreal and vomitting after eating. Anyway, the hotel is well known by near the fota wildlife park and environment, but you have to consider twice if you want enjoy the excellent service.

Good Afternoon Ziben, I hope you're keeping well and safe in these unprecedented times. Your review is of course disappointing to read but elements of the review are also concerning & puzzling to read. Unfortunately the hotel was closed in line with Level 5 restrictions to project customers and our staff members. While we would love to have guests at this time we simply can't. Can I ask to contact me directly by joflynn@fotaisland.ie to help us clarify and correct the issues you have raised in your review? Kind Regards John O'Flynn Resort General Manager

Would highly recommend this hotel! Very very comfortable room with sky sports which was a nice surprise to a very nice and relaxing bar! Delicious breakfast, the only small criticism I would have is the variety on the bar menu, other than that it’s flawless. Will definitely be back.

Stayed in Fota Island for 3 nites in September, due to the pandemic we had to book breakfast, dinner and pool/spa in advance but this was no problem and we were still able to rearrange times to suit! The hotel was spotless and sanitizing stations were frequent throughout the hotel! Lots to see and do, Spike Island and Fota Wildlife park are a must and we will def be back!

We arrived at the Fota resort on Tuesday 6th October. Our check in was very smooth and we were given the numbers we needed to dial to make bookings for the pool etc. We arrived at our room 226 and on entry we found a very nice touch from the hotel as I had mentioned at booking we would be celebrating our Wedding Anniversary a lovely plate with macarons & chocolates. Our room was comfortable, the bathroom was large with both a deep bath and walk in shower. My husband reported an issue with the shower which is being investigated. Our robes for going down to the spa were a bit well worn with holes in the cuffs from the Kingsly hotel. We also found the disposable cups for tea and coffee in our room a little strange. Our bed was very comfortable, and I had a great nights sleep though my husband didn't sleep as well, but sleep comfort is a specific thing to each person. The Amber Restaurant was the only restaurant open for dinner in the resort, and due to the level 3 restrictions, everywhere else in Cobh was closed for dine in so we ate in this restaurant for our 3 nights. The staff on Tuesday and Wednesday were very friendly and the Maitre D’s made a point of coming over and asking if everything was ok during our meal. (As this is the only restaurant the hotel had open we thought there may have been a wider choice on the menu incorporating bits from the other menus but there was only the menu for this restaurant). Unfortunately I found it is very limited and we felt over priced for what we got. Soup was the same 2 of the 3 days, our side of mash was very salty and when I had the Beef 50% of what was on the plate was fat. The lads in the bar were very nice and fixed up some lovely cocktails. Would have been nice to have a cocktail menu somewhere in the bar though as not everyone while on a relaxing break wants to bring their phone everywhere with them to look up menus. Breakfast was ok and even though an omelette wasn’t on the menu on Friday morning the kitchen were able to whip one up for my husband. We just want to mention Luka at breakfast, I have never seen anyone work so hard doing his utmost to make sure everyone has what they need. We are not really sure what happened to things in the hotel on Thursday but our whole dining experience from Breakfast to Dinner was not great, and we left both feeling annoyed at how we had been treated. I wanted to mention Charlene in the Spa, she is lovely and I really enjoyed the destressing manicure I had. The pool area is also very relaxing. We did mention at checkout and via the hotel survey our disappointment over our dining experiences on Thursday, and issues with our room. Roisin & Micheala have taken everything on board and the issues are been looked into. Overall our stay was ok but based on our room and other hotels we have stayed in Fota Island for us was not up to 4 star standards let alone a 5 star resort.
