Detailed Reviews
There is no real need to stay in a 5 star hotel unless of course you are big casino patron and have tons of dough to spare. If you are like me, just a normal, non-casino going tourist, then this hotel is sufficient. It is generally centrally located, and you get to St.Paul's ruins in a 20min walk. Rooms are spacious, clean. And there is also a very small casino at the lobby. SMALL... so not for the big rollers. More of pokies.
Nonetheless, nice hotel!

This is probably my 8th or 9th time staying at Sintra. I stayed here mainly because of it's location. It's approximately 10 - 15 minutes from the airport by taxi. The hotel offers free WiFi now. The staff are always helpful and they can communicate in English. The hotel is located right next to New Yaohan (Big Shopping Mall) It's only 5 minutes walk to Senado square and all other major casio hotels like Wynns & Grand Lisbua. Free shuttle bus runs from hotel steps to City of dreams every 10 minutes. The room is ok as it's a decent size and clean. I will stay here again next time I visit Macau for sure!

We stayed at the Sintra for one night in Sepember 2005. From the price and the hotel description, we expected to receive a polite welcome and a clean bed. Unfortunately, we were shocked by the lack of professionalism and warmth of the staff. We had to wait for 1 hour and 30 mns before someone could check us in. While waiting we asked for a glass of water and were served a small and dirty glass of warm tap water. When checking out the next day we found out that they had charged us for the water. We asked for explanations but nobody at the Sintra especially not the managers were able to speak plain English nor willing to present apologies. The room was just ok but well below other hotel rooms we had been to during our Asia trip for similar prices. The bed sheets were not clean and we had to ask them to change them, which took a couple of hours. In conclusion, I am sure there are better hotels to spend your money at while in Macau!

We recently stayed at the Sintra hotel and would happily stay there again based on our experience. We made reservations online which was a simple process. Upon arrival, check-in was quick and easy and English speaking staff were very friendly. They have luggage holding facilities available for those arriving early, before check-in and those wanting to leave bags after checking out to explore the city.
As for the rooms, we found ours to be functional and of good quality. The king size bed was a bit harder than we prefer but it wasn't terrible, we slept well enough. The hotel was full but we heard no noise during the night so walls seem to be solid. Bathroom was in good working order with high pressure shower head and plenty of hot water.
The room included a safe that was sufficiently large to hold a laptop, DSL camera and paperwork with extra space available. Room also came with water kettle, standard fridge (not filled) and TV with limited free channels, with a few English channels. There was free fast (wifi) service which was a nice add-on for this hotel.
As for the location, Sintra is quite well located for those interested in the World Heritage attractions, located just 6-8 minute walk from Senado Square. Also, just 2-3 minutes walk away, you can find Margaret's Cafe e Nata, a famous place for Portuguese egg tarts in Macau. The Grand Lisboa, Lisboa, Wynn, Starworld and other hotel/casino resorts are just a 5-6 minute walk in the other direction. In short, location is a strong attribute for staying at Hotel Sintra.
Overall, we were quite pleased with our stay at Hotel Sintra, finding the room functional and of good enough quality for the room rate. Combined with the great location and free wifi access, Hotel Sintra is a very good mid-range hotel option for those wanting to stay in Macau.

Most of it has been said in other reviews, but the addition I would like to make is the hotel shuttle bus from the Macau Ferry Pier, as we had a hard time finding it. When we were there, we had to take a left in the arrivals hall, to the place where all other shuttles are as well. However, the shuttle to Hotel Sintra does not actually have a parking spot, but drives by and you need to flag it down. They use purple-red vans, and the Hotel Sintra sign is not very clear, but it's on the side in the back. If you can not find this shuttle, just take the shuttle to the Grand Lisboa: hotel Sintra is right behind the Grand Lisboa, in the direction of the MGM (the other brightly lid casino two blocks away from Grand Lisboa).
Apart from that, Hotel Sintra was an excellent place: big rooms, very clean, relatively cheap, close to many casinos (Grand Lisboa, MGM, Wynn), shuttle buses to the City of Dreams (the casinos next to the Venetian), close to the historic heart of Macau (Largo do Senado), close to restaurants (if you walk to the north), but also the restaurant in the hotel itself is good, a wide selection of amenities (the usual shampoo etc., but also combs and other utilities). It was an excellent choice!

Unlike Vegas where most of the hotels have a casino, this Macau hotel doesn't have any. This is what i love about. You don't get the noise, crowd and even losing your sleep.
There're more things to do in Macau other than going to casino.
This hotel is walking distance to the famous, a must-try - 'Margaret's Portuguese Egg Tart' and Senado Square.
From the hotel, turn left towards traffic light, cross to opposite, walk straight, turn left into a back lane behind the first building (corner shop is a jewellery shop). Walk a about 1 to 2 minutes, turn right and you will see Cafe e Nata and that's it! You are there!
To go to Senado Square, It'll takes about 10 - 15 minutes walk. From the hotel, turn left to traffice lights, cross to opposite. Turn left and walk all the way straight.
Now come back to the room. The room is basic, tidy, clean and not smoky (we asked for a non-smoking room). Only complain would be the bed is kinda hard and pillow is flat, need to request for extra pillows. Overall, it serves the purpose for giving us a good nite sleep and easy on the pocket.

This hotel is located at central Macau. The hotel has a free shuttle bus running between the hotel and Macau outer harbor turbo jet ferry terminal. The hotel staffs are friendly and speak good English. The hotel has an all-you-can eat Dim Sum buffet from 8AM to 11AM. I think this is the best buffet in town because of the delicious food and reasonable price. The hotel's location is very good because of the following reasons.
(1) 15 minutes' walk to Macau's #1 tourist attraction Ruin Of St Paul. The Macau Fortress is next to Ruin Of St Paul and the Macau Museum is on the top of Macau Fortress.
(2) 3 minutes' walk to Grand Lisboa. Grand Lisboa' s foreign currency exchange counter has the best foreign currency exchange rate across Hong Kong and Macau.
(3) 3 minutes' walk to the free shuttle bus terminal. This free shuttle bus will take tourists to City Of Dreams.
(4) 2 minutes' walk to one of the major taxi stops of macau. If the hotel guests need a taxi, they can just walk across the street to the taxi stop. There are always a few taxis waiting there.

I stayed here one night in September 2016, based on a recommendation from a friend, and it was a very comfortable hotel, For one, it's a real hotel, not a casino with a hotel. So there is a lobby, reception, elevator, rooms. NOT a casino floor to walk through. Now they do have a casino on site, but you do not have to walk through it to get to your room That, to me who do not gamble, is a big advantage over other Macau hotels. It is centrally located close to the historic centre and to the bus circle where there are busses to everywhere. Also easy talking distance the the Clube Militar, my favorite restaurant in Macau. When I stayed (Sunday night) it was very quiet. You could tell there were not many guests at the hotel because at breakfast it was super quiet. After having stated at casino hotels in Macau, I found the Sintra a great value, great hotel to rest in Macau.

Hotel Sintra Macau
The Hotel Sintra Macau is a good value in an ideal location. It is in the shopping district a few blocks south of the historic district (a UNESCO world heritage site), and a few blocks north of the Gran Lisboa and Wynn casinos.
The free shuttle buses to the new mega-casinos (Venetian and others in the Co-Tai area a few miles south) stops right in front of the Sintra hotel. I am not a gambler, but I used the shuttles often for access to the stores and entertainment in Co-Tai.
To go farther afield (Coloane town or southern beaches, for example), the local buses cost only one USD (in local currency) each way.
Room rates are lowest at the beginning of the week, and my room at the Sintra cost only 90 USD per night including all taxes for an upgraded (at no extra cost) single with king bed from Sunday through Wednesday. A comparable room in Hong Kong would have cost almost twice as much.
The hotel’s website did not have information on cancellation and other policies, so I booked through Expedia’s website, where policies are clearly spelled out. I pre-paid my room, and there was no problem on arrival at the hotel. As at most hotels, they imprinted but did not charge my credit card when I registered, to cover any incidentals.
The one caveat when visiting Macau is to avoid arriving by ferry early on a Sunday morning because the passport control lines can very very long (thousands of mainlanders spend the day there). Fortunately I qualified for the senior/disabled line, which took only minutes instead of hours.
The Sintra and Gran Lisboa hotels have a combined free shuttle bus (burgundy in color), which runs between the hotels and ferry terminal and is usually parked on the street behind the other hotel bus parking stalls, just to the left as one exits the ferry terminal. There is a tourism office in the terminal for maps and information.
My room at the Sintra was a comfortable size with a very nice updated bathroom and all the usual amenities of a business class hotel, including an empty refrigerator and an electric tea pot (I drank only boiled water). The flat screen TV had a nice choice of stations in a variety of languages.
My room was across the street from the flashing lights of the Grand Emperor, but this was not a problem because of very good room darkening shades.
I arrived in the morning and my room was not ready until mid-afternoon, so I simply left my luggage with the bell desk and walked to the main square and historic district, where it is easy to enjoy a day of sightseeing.
The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. They made me feel welcome from the very start. I had most of my meals outside the hotel. I did try the hotel’s dim sum breakfast (from a menu), but suggest that the western style buffet breakfast is a better value.
There is a grocery store in the adjacent building (up one floor) and fast food shops are within a few blocks of the hotel. There is a street market just one block north of the main historic square, with a cheap modern supermarket up an escalator from that street market. Ask, and a local person will show you where it is. Almost everyone was conversant in English.
In summary, Macau is a nice break (in price and sightseeing options) from Hong Kong, and it is worth the trip just to see the new mega-casinos in Co-Tai, even for non-gamblers.
I hope this information is useful. Enjoy your visit!
