As a family of 4 (2 adults + kids aged 12 & 15) we found the villas to be great. They are far enough away from the action to be quiet & relaxing yet only a short bike ride/walk to the restaurants/bars. The pool was excellent (deep- which we loved!) and the outdoor living area was lovely. The beds were comfortable (on the firm side but fine for us) and the breakfast selection was varied and tasty! On the downside the hot water takes a while to kick in (just be patient) but in the hot weather it’s not too much of an issue. Overall I would definitely recommend Kelapa villas!

Stayed with a group of friends between a few villas. Was a great place to stay. Nice pools. Breakfasts were so so, breakfast tortilla yum. You’ll need to hire bikes from here as the place is a 8-10min bike to sunset and 10-15min to the main side of Gili

We had been recommended to stay here by 2 different friends, and we can say they were 100% right in recommending this place. We booked the villa for 3 nights but only wish we had longer. It is situated in the middle of the island which makes it easy to travel to both sides in a short amount of time. The rooms are clean, large, modern and the aircon is great. The food from the restaurant is amazing and fresh. The staff are so friendly, we even made a great friend who would come partying with us in the night. They organised a snorkelling trip for us, and transport back to the harbour when we departed. Overall I wouldn't stay anywhere else on Gili T, for the price we paid it was amazing.

I’ll preface my review by saying it is clear that along with the rest of the world Gili and it’s hotels have suffered repercussions due to the impact of covid and are just starting to get back on their feet. However, there is no excuse for the disgusting villa we were expected to stay in. It’s fair to say the photos attached will speak for themselves.

On arrival we were disappointed, the villa no doubt had once been stunning as per the glossy promotional photos on the booking sites. However, it was incredibly tired with worn fixtures and fittings including cigarette burn holes in the seating. It all looked and felt grubby and unclean. The pool towels were damp despite supposedly being fresh and clean. The bathrooms were in need of refurbishment with the showers being little more of a trickle. Indeed it is fair to say the whole villa desperately required work to be considered ‘luxury’ as billed.

We did make the decision to leave after initially discovering blood on one quilt cover. Which then led us to check all the bed sheets. Our discoveries were horrific. I wouldn’t like to speculate on the bodily fluids covering both the mattresses and covers. It is utterly disgusting to think anyone would think it appropriate to simply dress the bed with clean sheets over what undoubtedly was a health hazard!!

To be clear all three mattresses/beds in the three bedroom villa were disgusting. Two more badly stained than the third but all unacceptable.

Our experiences of Kelapa Villas would lead us to suggest that they are trading on their reputation of old and previous standards. As it stands this can not be described as a luxury accommodation and I would urge anyone considering staying here to reconsider.

We traveled this trip as a family of 5 , so we picked a 3 bedroom villa with pool in the heart of the island ,so that we would be close to everything.
The speedboat from Lombok deposited us on the beach with 5 suitcases in the rain , we had no idea where we were or where we were going.
As there are no proper roads here we dragged our bags through massive puddles and mud and rubbish for 20 minutes to Kelapa's reception.
No problem , staff very friendly and helped us get our bags to Villa Mimpi, which is just around the corner from the main Kelapa villas " lovers lane".
Villa Mimpi was great, beds great, pool great, lounge & kitchen great.
Fully stocked with lots of glasswear, books , games etc.
Breakfast delivered to your villa is a big selling point here, all over their website.
However ,on our first morning ,we go a knock at the door and were told breakfast was not coming it was "too far and would get cold" we had to go to the restaurant! Really!!!
Not happy ,but what can you do, has never been a problem in Indonesia before.
Day 2 - after 3 trips to the office as there is NO phone to call, we have to move villas as there is an ongoing plumbing problem that is no longer acceptable.
We are moved to a huge 5 bedroom villa with a huge pool.
The villa is beautiful and huge and comfortable and they will deliver breakfast here.
The only problem was the mosquitos eating you alive, we were all covered in repellent and I was burning the coils but they were relentless.

We had a lovely couple of nights stay at Kelapa villas. Our own private pool was a nice luxury and our accommodation was spotless and exactly as described. Rin was very helpful and gave us all the information we needed to make our stay perfect. Breakfast was very nice and the staff friendly.

I don't often write reviews but Rin who runs the front office deserves a mention.

Her professionalism and attitude was exemplary.

I have travelled extensively and met many professionals throughout but this lady went above and beyond.

If Rin lived in England I would not hesitate in giving her a job.

Thank you Rin I wish you must success in your career.

We loved our stay at Kelapa! The villa was absolutely massive with our own pool and outside living area with sofas and TV set in a quiet compound away from the busy part of Gili T. The bedroom was huge with outside bathroom. A very safe, chilled vibe with friendly, helpful staff. I couldn't recommend more highly.

Before I get into the pros and cons of Kelapa, you need to establish if Gili Trawangan is the right destination for you.

The island attracts people who want to dive and party and a few who want to sit on the beautiful beaches all day and do next to nothing. Uninhabited until 30 years ago, it still retains the charm of hippy flip-flop bohemian chic.

If you are looking for fine dining, manicured lawns and gardens coupled with 5 star luxury service, this is not the destination for you.

We were looking for a destination to take our 4 children, now aged 18-21 on our final family holiday, so it had to be special. We had different needs; the 18 year olds wanted to party, some wanted to do nothing, my partner and I wanted daily activities for the day and decent restaurants in the evenings. Initially, we were sceptical that an island 2 miles long and 1.5 miles wide would be able to satisfy the expectations of our family’s diverse interests.

After we had booked Kelapa, which came recommended by friends, Maddie was very helpful via email. She arranged our boat transfer from Bali to the island and put us in contact with Blue Marlin dive school who gave us a discount through her.

We arrived onto Gili Tarwangan by hi speed boat from Bali. Maddie told us to take pony carts to the villas, which we did. You soon learn that once off the “main drag” of Gili T, the roads are no more than dust tracks covered in pot-holes. The pony cart ride was a bumpy experience.
When we opened the door to the villa, I heard the children shout “wow”. Our 3 bed villa was called Tenang, Indonesian for “Calm”; it was appropriately named. The rooms are spacious, all with ensuite shower rooms. The kitchen/living area is open on two sides with a large table and chairs under a covered area. We selected this villa as it had the largest pool, which was ample for the 6 of us. Also in the garden there is a large covered day bed, mainly in the shade all day, so perfect for those wanting to relax out of the heat of the sun.
Two of the three bedrooms looked onto the pool, which was beautiful to look onto even at night with the pool lights on.

Kelapa villas are situated 900m up a dirt track from the “main drag”, so fairly straight forward to get to. In the other direction you can reach the North Beach in 5 minutes. North beach looks beautiful and has really good snorkelling, although, I would recommend that you bring shoes to walk over the coral, as that can be very painful. We found a selection of restaurants on North Beach, which made a lovely change from the hustle and bustle of the main drag.

You can reach the west coast of the island within 5 minutes. Great if you want to nip out to see the sun setting over the volcano in Bali. It really was quite special to watch and then fun to head down to the south part of the main drag and take in some sun downer “Happy Hour” cocktails before dinner.

In essence, Kelapa is well situated if you want to be close enough to most areas of the island, without being too close to the noisy bars and parties which can happen until dawn. We were able to cycle back in the evenings, although you do need to bring a head torch with you as the last 900m is very tricky with the dust and pot-holes. Kelapa will lend you torches, but there is a hefty deposit required for each torch.

I’ve cycled round the island several times and looked at many of the other resorts – then read the reviews on Trip Advisor, to see what they were like. It seems the main complaints people have of the island are: lack of wi-fi, bad service, rude receptionists, dirty linens and towels, close proximity to noise. Although it would be nice to be on the beach, having read the reviews and looked at the cost difference for these resorts, it soon becomes clear that not only is Kelapa a fantastic hideaway, but also great value for money.

We had the privacy of our own space, which we felt very important. The pool was cleaned and serviced every day as were the rooms and the linens changed often. All the staff were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble to ask of them.

We were given bikes to ride around the island. Although not the highest quality you would expect from your own personal push bike, they did the job and were included in the price, rather than having to rent them, as you would in other resorts. Whenever we had a problem with a bike, it was immediately fixed or replaced.

On balance, Kelapa offers fantastic accommodation, far enough away from the noise of the main drag, yet close enough to cycle to it and/or other parts of the island. I would certainly recommend this to anyone looking to stay on Gili Trawangan. Our family are already talking of a return visit with their friends or spending time here on a Gap Year. We loved the vibe on the island and can’t wait to return one day.

amateur management, cheap furniture, questionable hygiene... where to start?

We arrived one morning by boat, the hotel was supposed to come pick us up on the beach. Lots of signs, with some people's names, not ours. after a bit of looking, we took a horse-taxi by ourselves. Once they got there, the hotel tried to make me pay the taxi, and i had to repeat to them that everything was already paid for, including the ride to the hotel, so it was up to them. They tried telling me that on Gili islands there is no beach pickup, which is ridiculous to begin with, and they looked at me puzzled when i asked the why there was several couples who got picked up, but not us. They apologised, paid the guy, then handed me a piece of paper to sign where it was said that nothing was paid for and everything needed to be regulated. Really?? I JUST told you everything was paid for! Oh yes sorrysorrysorry.

The hotel in the middle of the island, 10-20 minutes walk from the nearest beach. but don't worry, they will RENT you a bike for 50k rupies per day per bike. Ok fine, there is a tennis court (with that heat?!) and a gym, and mostly a private pool in the villa. Had it not been for these three details, i do not think that this hotel deserves more than two stars. The furniture in the kitchen of the villa looks cheaper than ikea, the kind that once you open it you have to jiggle the nearby drawers so that it will close properly.

There was a welcome coconut, which is nice, with a straw next to it. However it was not open, we had to call the front desk. A guy came with a large knife, chopped off the top of the coconuts and left, leaving the tops on the floor.

During our four days stay, there was a beer cap next to the pool during three days from a strongbow. We never drank strongbow in that villa.

The second night we ordered two cocktails and a bruschetta. We received a call THIRTY-FIVE minutes later telling us, out of the FOUR cocktails they offer in their menu, only one was left because all the other alcohols were drained by another villa. We said nevermind, just bring us the food. Once the food arrived, the guy wanted me to sign a bill with the two drinks that we did not receive.

Breakfast in the villa every morning, you decide the time, then they bring it whenever they feel like it (the record was 45 minutes in advance), and NEVER a complete delivery: "you forgot the juice... you forgot the eggs... you forgot the sausage..." oh and one time they even brought us an uncooked croissant. As in, the dough, they forgot to put it in the oven and brought it like that.

The cleanness of the room, the bathroom and the kitchen is questionable, just check out the spiderwebs under the spotlight in the water room.

Second star because at least they had the decency to give us a "we are sorry" branded gift. Luckily we were in too high spirits during our honeymoon, and they did not let these incompetents ruin our trip. My advice is to not take this risk and dear LORD avoid this place.

Hi Raj. I was one that rated the resort as poor. However don't worry it's still a great place and I'm sure you will enjoy your stay. Not sure about transfers we arranged everything on line including transfers. As for access to the resort again don't worry. It's a very small island so nothing is far away just be aware there are few street lights and the roads are rough tracks at best so take care and take a good torch. One thing worth noting is the breakfast is awful so don't say you haven't been warned. Regards Mark
