Excellent location just down from the bus station, yet right in town. Giia has set up her home with the ground floor for guests. Lovely garden. Double rooms. Clean and attention to security. Quiet street. Hostel was once a KGB abode, but has been gutted and done beautifully.

Nice hostel located pretty close to the center of this small town. Very friendly staff and it gives you a piece of the history of Estonia (if you go there you will discover the reason for this). Good facilities and great garden to enjoy outdoor activities. Beds should be a bit better.

This hostel consists of three rooms and one bathroom on the main floor of the owner's house. (They live upstairs). We had a double room which was spacious and clean. I don't mind sharing a bathroom but would have preferred to have a sink or mirror in our room. The owner Tiia is lovely, and when you arrive she will walk you through the photos in the entry hall and tell you her family story including how they got the property back after Soviet Occupation and built the house. This personal touch is not for everyone but we loved it as one of the reasons we travel is to learn about the places we visit. There is a shared kitchen that is very well equipped. We asked about breakfast and Tiia offered to make it for us for an additional €3.5. It was coffee and an open faced sandwich of ham and cheese on rye with a sprig of dill that she served us in the garden. It was lovely. After reading the review documenting the double booking we made sure to email the owners to confirm the booking. They responded quickly and we had no issue. This is a peaceful, homey place to stay, and would suit families or independent travellers who are looking for economical choices with a personal touch.

We went to Karluti Hostel for two nights and were really happy about this tiny (3 bedrooms) and well-located place. You feel at home in this old Kuressaare house. Although her English is not perfectly fluent, the friendly owner will be able to tell you a lot about Estonia and her family's history. We rented two good bicycles there. Only downside: the breakfast (no milk provided with cereals, little tea and no tea filter to infuse it).

We booked a room at Karluti Hostel in May 2014 for one night in August 2014 and received a confirmation within 1 hour. When we arrived, however, we were told that our room had been booked for someone else, which we were told was a misunderstanding between the two owners. I could have accepted that as "something that just happens sometimes" but then the wife informed us that she was so sorry for the confusion, her husband does this "all the time". She then recommended that we stay with a friend of hers (and she made the arrangements, which was very kind) but unfortunately the hostel we ended up in didn't even have a shower...
