I stayed at the Dong Village Hotel for two nights in early July 2019. Visiting the Dong villages in the ChengYang scenic area was my favorite part of my trip to Guangxi, and the Dong Village Hotel was a great place to stay, as it has great views and is just a short walk to the famous Wind & Rain bridge and Ma'an village. Before my arrival, I was in communication with the owner Michael, who helped arrange a ride from Sanjiang Nan train station for 100 rmb. Michael was a great host and was very helpful throughout my whole stay. The hotel provides delicious and reasonably priced meals (make sure you order before sundown before things seem to shut down in the area), and has cold water/beer when you need it. The hotel is built in the local wooden Dong style, which is very charming, though be aware that the floor creaks loudly every time you step. The air conditioning and wifi worked well, and the balcony provided a great view across the fields. Overall, I'd be happy to stay again if I ever return to ChengYang. Just a note to those heading back to Sanjiang by bus: To get to the public bus, you need to cross the bridge next to the hotel and take a right. From there, it's a good 20-30 minute walk all the way to the MAIN ROAD, where buses will pick you up. It's not especially fun dragging your luggage in the rain and 90+% July humidity, but just keep walking until you get to the main road.

Just out of the sprawling Dong village complex next to the beautiful bridges, this hotel is authentic, full of charm, has great views, and a very competent english speaking host, who also oversees and cooks some pretty good food. Now a 100 quai taxi ride from Sangjiangnan fast train station, this peaceful and interesting area is in the, normal for China, throes of a huge makeover for tourism, but remains quiet most of the week. The hotel is a bit creaky and noisy but smells of fresh cedar and pine and is so well placed for the series of walks around the area and has great balconies on the front side

Stayed for 1 night in a triple bedroom on 3rd floor. Took a van from Sanjiang Nan train station to the hotel. 40 min, 90 RMB. Hotel location is convenient. Easy to find and leave. Just beside the first bridge and river, next to ticket entrance. Short walk to Yongji bridge (2-3 min) and the village. Room is comfy. Seated toilet. Balcony. Traditional wooden structure so expect creaking noises from above and neighbouring rooms. By and large, clean and good enough for me. Hotel was quite empty when I visited. Owner lady not around most of the time. But at meal times, you can order with whosever around. Food is ok. Owner can also provide transport to Longji rice terrace at reasonable price.

I was really looking forward to staying here and visiting this area, to the point that two weeks prior to my trip, I emailed the hotel asking for advice on where to hike and also for a pick-up at the train station. Then I emailed again. I never got a response, leading me to wonder whether the hotel was even open! It was my surprise to receive an email from the owner on the afternoon of our arrival, having been delayed ~2 hours on the train I was planning to take, that a driver had arrived to the local train station and was waiting for me. That was the first communication ever from the hotel! Well, we were so grateful for even for that (the driver ended up coming back when our train arrived). We requested dinner at the hotel but all we got really was some fried rice and steamed vegetables. There was no menu or even options offered, just that's what we got. Breakfast was a bit better, but never was there any interest expressed by the owner in showing us around, finding a guide (as I requested from my original email), sharing the local cuisine, etc. It seemed like we were more of a hassle than hotel guests. Point in fact was being shown to our room and taking ~30 minutes to figure out how to get the heater on and the TV working, since the owner left to go downstairs the second he showed us the room. I would return to the beautiful Dong village area in a heartbeat, but also hope that there will be more hotel options in the area in the future.

A basic guesthouse beside the river, this is a good place to explore the local villages. It has a nice terrace, where you can eat or chill having a beer. Rooms are clean, with basic air-conditioning and wifi.
