For me, this is one of the great places that I've visited in a world of travelling. I do love to see nature and I also love snorkeling, so what I'm saying applies to people who like that sort of thing. They also appeared to have an excellent dive shop and diving opportunities for the divers out there. The actual accommodations are nice enough but are not luxury level, more of a 3 star type of room. Also, no air conditioning, but good ceiling fans, and it's part of the ambience of the whole place. No tv either, thank goodness. It's a place to get away, be in nature, have great snorkeling available just a short stroll from your room, look for sea turtles at night. And there are various talks available throughout the day on nature and environmental topics. Also, one free glass bottom boat and snorkeling trip are typically included in a package, and many people also bought additional snorkeling or diving excursions, which seemed reasonably priced. The food was pretty good considering the number of people being cooked for. The only slight annoyances occurred around lunch time when you are sometimes slammed with a tour group that is just coming through for a few hours and totally clogs up the works in the dining area. I stayed for a couple nights, and I strongly recommend that, as you can do a lot in the morning and late afternoon and thereby miss the crowd that might pass through midday.

I visited Lady Elliot Island with a group of fellow travel professionals from the UK, Australia, Italy and France, I was thrilled to be in the co-pilots seat for our short 30 minute flight from Bundaberg, all seats have good visibility and the pilots make a point of circling the island so everyone can take photos. The flight and landing were smooth and comfortable. On arrival we were immediately struck by the huge numbers of birds nesting in the trees, many with chicks, but we were more concerned than they were about being in such close proximity. We just had time for a quick coffee and briefing before getting into our snorkelling gear and heading down to the lagoon for a snorkel before the tide went out. Reef shoes are necessary because the island is a coral cay. It was bizarre to be snorkelling over coral that would soon be exposed to the hot sun. After our trial snorkel we took a glass bottom boat ride out to the coral gardens which was informative and fascinating. The sea was a bit choppy and I was a little apprehensive about snorkelling but reef guide Tenielle was on hand to offer reassurance and she stayed with me throughout pointing out various coral and fish. A highlight was when we were snorkelling above a beautiful small turtle and suddenly caught sight of another huge turtle swimming past us! The current was strong in places but there is a rope and buoys that act as a guide and a resting spot if you need a breather. Thanks to Tenielle I enjoyed my best ever snorkelling experience on the reef and it was one I will never forget. The island is very well maintained, our snorkelling equipment was of a good quality and all the staff were friendly and cheerful. We enjoyed a tour of the island's nursery and had free time to relax or explore after a delicious lunch in the restaurant. There is a great little gift shop, an information centre, and a research centre. Lady Elliot Island is a nature lover's paradise. We all agreed it was a highlight of our trip!

An excellent eco-resort where yoou can visit for the day or stay overnight. My wife and I just returned from a 3-day/overnight stay at Lady Elliot and it was outstanding. We stayed in one of the Glamping Tents for one night, and then stayed in one of the 2-bedroom suites for 2 nights. They also offer accomodations that are less expensive, so they have rooms that fit all budgets. The food is excellent, and the snorkeling is outstanding, of course.

Flying into the island is an experience you will not forget
This was a Paradise in November for birdwatching. There were birds building nests, feeding chicks roosting on every available surface. Wherever you go on the small island, you will hear and smell them. We had dozens of noddies right outside her porch and one tern with another board double chick under our step.
I apart from the birds, snorkeling is wonderful. You can go directly from the beach and float over fish and turtles. Diving is also an offer for an extra fee. Be aware that if you want help with your equipment, you should pay extra. I was not offered any extra help and as a senior citizen honestly struggled with the walk on the sand onto the boat with weight belt etc.. The reef itself was of course spectacular.
Our unit was right on the beach and had recently been re-decorated. Very nice shower and comfortable bed. Wonderful deck to sit and relax on.
Food is buffet style We had a very good choice for dinner with fish, meat and vegetarian options every night There's also a salad and dessert bar Food was tasty and cooked with good quality ingredients. The dining experience will probably vary a bit depending on the chef. They seem to mainly have very young staff who probably do not stay. You will be asked to bus your own plates There is a full-service bar with expected prices
Breakfast is also buffet style and includes cooked items as well as fruit, cereal etc. They even had an omelette station one morning. You can pay extra for lunch again buffet with hot and cold items . The dining room feels a bit like a school cafeteria with good food Some tables on the terrace have nice lagoon views.
Every day there were organized, walks and talks of subjects like birdwatching ,reef creatures. They also have a drink trolley come down to the beach at sunset
The dive shop and reception area, carry a small selection of souvenirs, including hats, tees, and essentials, such as sunscreen.
Overall I would highly recommend Lady Elliot Island it is place where the animals rule and you are the visitor . If you want a luxury experience with attentive service, a spa or night life then don't come.. If you like stargazing and nature in a comfortable environment this is the place for you.

This was one of the most well organised and eco friendly places i have ever been too. It was worth every penny. If you read any of the other reviews about the loud birds everywhere etc, yes its true, there are birds EVERYWHERE, and they are loud, and you will get pooped on. But we have to respect that we are visiting a place they call home, and its all a part of the experience, you can’t expect it all to be free of animals and be eco-friendly.
The place is very well thought out, plenty of toilets and warm showers everywhere for the day guests, plenty of towels available. You can hire all your gear at the dive shop and there are also lockers to put your stuff in (bring a padlock or ask the office to store your valuables, however, we left most of our stuff lying around and nothing happened). There are no locks on the accommodation cabin doors either but you don’t need any. Everybody is respectful.
The food is great too, we are vegetarian and there was plenty of choice at breakfast, lunch and dinner for both buffet selection and the cafe menu. Water is free all day and there are plenty of places to fill up your bottles
We stayed in the eco lodge and everything was spotless, the bathrooms are shared but super clean and they are cleaned regularly.
We are novice snorkellers and my husband can’t swim at all, but the glass bottom boat tour was great, one of their guides took my husband out and helped him around. We also swam in the lagoon ourselves and it is a really well protected area so it felt pretty safe! We saw lots of turtles, fish and rays. Its really beautiful.
we left from hervey bay airport, and parked our car at the public car park for 2 days. There is also a secure gated car park you can use which costs a little more.
Amazing experience, but i would recommend staying at least 1 night if not more to give you the best chance to see what you would like. This is a natural place and its only safe to snorkel if the conditions are right, so its best to just give yourself more of a chance for this

My two-night stay at Lady Elliot Island left me wishing I'd booked for longer. From the moment I arrived at the hotel to check my luggage in, to when I touched back down in Hervey Bay, everything ran smoothly with a focus on sharing this pristine environment with guests and making our stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.
I did three dives and two snorkelling sessions. Every dive was organised well, the Divemasters were knowledgeable and clearly just as excited about showing us around as we were to be there. Everyone spoke with such affection and respect for the natural environment that is there.
If you're not into birds (or they freak you out) check on the timing of nesting season as that may have an impact on your stay. Make sure you chat to the bar about booking in sunset drinks before 2:00pm so when the sun starts to go down, you can saunter over to the Lighthouse and they'll bring your drinks to you while you sit on the beach a million miles from anywhere.
Beautiful people caring for a stunning place. I can't wait to go back.

Lucky to do a diving course over 5 days on Lady Elliot. The whole experience from start to finish was out of this world perfect!! The island is PARADISE, completely chilled out and relaxed. I loved every moment of my adventure thanks to the island staff, especially the dive crew. On day 1, I was a little nervy at first relatively new to the diving world but the lads had me feeling comfortable and safe jumping in with the others very quickly. Special shout out to my instructors- Oliver, Naz, Keelin and Kai. The nicest crew you'd ever meet, great energy, extremely knowledgeable and very professional... an absolute credit to yourselves. The diving and snorkeling itself was nothing short of magical... there was action everywhere you looked... silly amount of manta rays and green turtles chilling about,, even when you took a break from water to fuel up, you'd see humpback whales flapping their tails in the near distance. The shallows in the lagoon had such healthy coral with every type of fish you could imagine bopping by. The food was top class, plenty of choice with different options each night.. Harry in the kitchen went above and beyond, asked if I'd any requests... he made an Irish man very happy serving up a form of potato every night,, legend. Every night after dinner, there was an informative session on the reef or an animal, these were a great end to the busy days... special shout out to Kris who gave a brilliant presentation on "relationships of the reef"... you could tell this man knows his stuff and is very passionate about our oceans, inspiring!! Overall, Lady Elliot will go down as unforgettable. It came with a very hefty price tag... but after the trip,, I would encourage anyone on the fence to commit 100%, you won't regret it. Thank you Lady Elliot Island for the best few days! Bucket list item for sure

We went for 2 nights in March. Starting with a good experience the 35 min flight from Hervey Bay was spectacular with great views of the island on arrival. As others have reported it is by single engine plane over the ocean so best not to think too hard about the implications. They prioritise day visitors with early flights so overnight visitors don't arrive until about 2pm. This means you have missed the snorkeling lessons ( for novices) for the day and most of the other activities which is disappointing. We were advised therefore to take our glass bottom boat ride in the morning and they'd teach us as part of that. In the morning we turned up for the glass bottom boat ( which takes place in the more difficult snorkeling zones) where the sea was quite rough. The fully loaded boat ended up being thrown onto the beach and we all had to get off while they called up alot of staff to help get it back in the water. Eventually it was refloated and we reboarded. Naively we expected to get through the waves and find the water was much calmer. However this wasn't the case and we were subjected to quite a big swell. Due the the waves, the water wasn't clear so the views of the coral were not very good. We were then told to sit on the bench on the outside of the boat to put on snorkel & flippers. The staff were helpful but the conditions were very difficult and underwater vision was poor. Despite being fit and a confident swimmer I had to return to the boat early as the swell was very tiring and I wasn't feeling great. With the benefit of experience I feel they took the glass bottom boat out as it was scheduled purely so they could say it was provided. However, they must have known the conditions for snorkeling were pretty bad and probably shouldn't have gone out and waited until conditions improved. Later we went on a reef walk which was interesting and informative. Others from the glass bottom boat trip tried snorkeling in the lagoon ( designated for novices) and they said it was much better. The turtle talk was interesting but there was a brief half hearted attempt to lead a walk along the beach to see if turtles were coming onto the beach or hatching. However, I think they knew it was highly unlikely as there'd been no sightings for a couple of weeks or so. We stayed in a reef unit, which was OK and basic as expected. The meals, breakfast and dinner, whilst buffet style, were good quality and well presented so no complaints there. Drinks were also reasonably priced. On the morning of the departure you have to be out of your unit by 10 which makes it difficult to do any activities before departure at 11.30. It is a very expensive experience and we are not sorry we did it ( as part of a long trip). The overriding feeling is it over promised and under delivered. Finding ways to get overnight visitors to the island earlier or at least scheduling snorkeling introductions to suit the arrival times on arrival day would make a big difference. Not sure it provides value for money based on our experience

This is the best place to go to if you're looking for excellent beach snorkeling. It is not the best beach resort in the pacific, it is not the best food in the world, it is not luxury, it doesn't always smell nice, thanks to the birds.
As per the label, it is an eco friendly resort with breakfast/dinner buffet including, a range of accommodation, and a snorkeling paradise. On the plane back, I heard a couple complain saying it wasn't their type of resort and that the buffet was unhygienic because children were roaming and he saw a child touch food. They obviously didn't read much about it before booking.
We've been 3 times in the last 5 years. You can arrive, get your gear and step off the beach for the best snorkeling without a boat, a booking, an OH&S guide that ties you to a line and won't let you go where you want to go. You can stay in the water 8 hours if you want.
The turtles, sharks, mantas, trevallies, groupers, giant coral trouts tick the "big things" box, but there are also so many tiny delights.
Great place to take teenagers to make them appreciate what unspoilt nature is like and that you don't need wifi / phones to have a good time.
We love it and will keep coming back regularly for our snorkelling fix

Our family had to holiday in Queensland this year so after googling around we decided to venture up north.
We first drove to Susan River Homestead situated a leisurely 3.5 hrs drive north of Brisbane as our first stop for 3 nights and then drove to Hervey Bay Airport where we left the car in secure parking and flew to Lady Elliott.
Island
The island during summer. They don't even clean the verandah's with the poop on it just stays there and is disgusting, its infested with noisy birds. The birds poop everywhere and the stench is awful. They are also very loud and the noise is constant. Ear plugs are provided in your unit for night use. If you leave towels out to dry on the porch the bird will poop on them, if you leave clothes out to dry same. Its pretty awful.
Things to Do on the Island
Unless you dive (divers paradise) or snorkel there is absolutely nothing to do on the island. The island does not cater for kids there is really nothing for them to do. The pool cues were broken and not replaced so couldn’t play pool. There is a swimming pool and a TV with DVD should you so wish to watch a movie. The movie selection must be 15 years old and needs an update. Some families enjoy watching a movie with their kids and it would be nice if it was updated. There is aircon in this room.
Amount of Days on the Island
We were there 5 nights – this was way too long for this island with nothing to do.
2-3 nights is sufficient.
Wifi
There is Wifi up at the lighthouse if you are with Telstra but the resort will not tell you as they want you to pay for the internet.
Washing Facilities
There is a washing machine and dryer and iron for use (you buy the washing power from the reception).
Value for Money Resort
I don’t think this resort is value for money. Over priced for what you get.
Breakfast and Dinner (which is included)
Average nothing to rave about but it’s a buffet and you can go back as many times as you like. Due to Covid buffet was till on but staff were serving customers.
Staff
Could do with a smile for guests on occasions or be a little friendlier we are of course paying top dollar to be there.
Dive Shop
My husband was a little peeved when his and our daughter’s morning session in the pool was bumped from 9am to 10am.
He was even more pissed off when the dive that was scheduled for 2pm was cancelled (without them even trying to notify us as guests) to 3pm. We had set out day with the dive at 2pm and were then told that there were other divers more experienced and we were bumped.
Come on what about a little courtesy with telling the less experienced divers to check at least 30 minutes before the dive to see whether it’s still on – its hot hard Lady Elliott its actually JUST A COURTESY. Implement this ASAP!
Please give me a thumbs up if you liked my review – many thanks for reading.

Response from Amy G, Marketing at Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort
Responded Feb 9, 2021
Dear 729traceyb, Thank you for taking the time to review Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort on Trip Advisor. We are sorry to hear that your stay on Lady Elliot Island did not meet your holiday expectations. Our team is committed to continual improvement and we do appreciate you taking the time to provide your recent feedback. Please accept our sincere apologies that your holiday did not meet your expectations. We understand that the smell of bird poop can be quite confronting to some of our guests. However, this smell is characteristic of most coral cays. Lady Elliot Island is the second largest bird rookery on the Great Barrier Reef and in the summer months it is home to hundreds of thousands of sea birds. This information is readily available on our website under the ‘Nature Calendar’ section. Due to this, it is inevitable for bird poop to be a common sight on Lady Elliot Island, and our Maintenance Team follow a routine cleaning schedule to help with keeping our buildings and grounds clean. Lady Elliot Island is a low-key 3.5-star Resort. We do not boast resort facilities, the major drawcard to the Island is snorkelling and diving on the Great Barrier Reef. We do, however, have a small games area, tv room with DVD player, children’s playground, night activities including trivia and bingo and an extensive Reef Education Centre. Other activities for children include reef walking, reef rangers’ program (inside QLD/NSW school holidays) and numerous educational Island walks and talks. In regard to your experience with our Dive Shop, we have spoken directly to the Team and have ensured this does not occur again in the future. We are sorry that this impacted your stay but please do not let this deter you from visiting again! Thank you

Thank you for contacting us. We do have a microwave in the laundry room which can be used by guests staying in the Eco Cabins.
In regards to breakfast, as we are an eco resort, we tend to encourage guests to have breakfast in the main restaurant where we can ensure food waste is properly disposed of. Breakfast is served between 6.30am and 9am, however we do cater to divers with a late breakfast if required.
I would suggest speaking with our Reservations team on +61 7 5536 3644 or alternately with the kitchen team upon arrival to the island. We are more than happy to assist you with ensuring some breakfast is available for you after your morning snorkel. We hope you have a wonderful stay on the island.
Thank you for your query. Our team would be delighted to discuss this further with you. If you could please contact our reservations team via email to inform us of which airport you are flying from, we can then look at possible storage options.
Thank you for your query. We have very limited availability and therefore I would suggest contacting our Reservations Team or checking our website Availability Calendar for accommodation options. Our Eco Cabins have shared bathroom facilities, however, all other room categories have their own ensuite bathrooms. Our Reef Units and Glamping Tents are a lovely option for couples.
In regards to diving, this will need to be arranged upon arrival to the island. Our Dive Shop can assist you with booking these in when you first land on beautiful Lady Elliot Island.
Hi Sue, Thank you for your question. We do have wifi available for purchase on the island, however please be aware that it is only available in the main resort restaurant area. We encourage our guests to enjoy the digital detox on the island. Full face masks (for snorkelling) are not permitted, however we do provide snorkel masks on the island for you to use. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact our team on +61 7 5536 3644
