Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya Suites is often celebrated for its welcoming atmosphere and pristine cleanliness, with guests lauding the well-kept grounds and spotless accommodations. The service is generally seen as friendly and attentive, though there have been occasional hiccups with reservations and staff responsiveness. While the range of amenities, including multiple pools and restaurants, is a hit among families, some reviewers have expressed concerns over hidden costs and the value of their stay, citing overpriced services and upselling tactics.

Pre-arrival & vacation context
Wife and I stayed at Iberostar’s Lindo resort 13 years prior for our one-year anniversary and really enjoyed it. We were planning a coordinated vacation with extended family for the 11 of us, whose ages ranged from 70 down to 2.
We got two family suites, a total of 4 rooms. The family would stay four nights while my family of 4 would stay a total of six nights. Area of improvement: There is no resort map available online.
I had read from another review that Iberostar provides a shuttle service if booked directly with them. I emailed and confirmed this is not true. Iberostar has a partner company called World2Meet (w2m), which provides shuttle services and excursions. Their services are a separate charge unless you are a special member. They did not have an online system for reservations or online pricing at the time of my booking. We decided to book Cancun Shuttle, as recommended by the Cancun Airport’s website. We totally recommend them and will leave them a review as well.
I installed the Iberostar app on my Samsung Galaxy S22+. The app does not work. It crashes 100% of the time. I’ve upgraded to the latest versions each time, no change. I could not use the app while on vacation either, which was sad.
Iberostar sent an email for pre-check-in to make things faster. I was unable to complete this form from my laptop. I would get errors each time I entered my initial information. I was able to do it from my mobile device, however.
Arrival experience
The property was well-maintained and large. There were bell boys ready for our arrival to take the baggage from our shuttle. The lobby was very large and air-conditioned. I had a brief wait to check-in. Even though I checked in online, there was still a process that took 15-20 minutes to confirm things and get our wristbands (room keys and resort designator). We did not get anything like a report map with restaurant details. The place is enormous. Perhaps the app provides this. There are touchscreen kiosks around, but they are useless. The navigation was unintuitive.
My wife was annoyed to find the rooms we explicitly reserved online (6670-6671) were not assigned to us. We were still within the same building and on the same floor, but in a different room set. Our family was also not next to us but across the way. What was the point of selecting specific rooms if we don’t get them?
After check-in we met Sergio to help us get reservations and also sign us up for the sales presentation. The lure was complimentary passes to the Iluzio show which was described to us as “a cross between Broadway and Cirque Du Soleil”. The presentation was to learn more about Iberostar’s offerings for return customers. Sergio booked dinner reservations for our last days. He could not book for our full party of 11.
We went to our building. The elevator was not working. It was closed for renovations. We were told it was maintenance, but it remained boarded up behind plywood the entire week. Being on the top floor it was a pain to go back and forth to the room, especially with small children.
Our connecting rooms were very clean and nicely prepared. Our room 6675 was cooler than 6674. We unpacked and found many places to put our clothing. We did notice a lack of hangers for a week’s stay and the closet doors get in the way of the hangers. We found a lack of outlets to charge our devices.
The rest of our family (another room booking) was not taken to a concierge after check-in. They did not get the opportunity to get free tickets or a massage by listening to a presentation. They checked in later in the day.
Once settled, my wife was able to go down to the building concierge to book for 11 for most nights with the exception of the arrival night. El Rancho was the most desired and there was no opportunity for our party of 11 during the stay.
Day 0
Time for dinner. It was about 6pm. The closest place was La Marina, a seafood grill. I read it was the Maya’s buffet. We arrived and learned we needed reservations for dinner. They seemed unbusy. The host offered to see if we could be seated and returned with wonderful news that we could! Note: while we ate, we were one of four families in that section of the restaurant.
The meal was great. My father-in-law had the Filet Mignon and it proved to be the best steak of the trip. Wife had the salmon and really enjoyed it. I had the fish and chips and was happy. Service wasn’t fast but consistent and we rarely needed anything.
We checked out the Maya lobby bar, Kukulkan, and took pictures. Everything looked amazing. We walked over to the Lindo while admiring the décor. The Lindo bar, Acuario, had karaoke going on so we stopped in. We got beer. Dos Equis is the beer on tap at the resort. The amber style from this bar was terrible. It had a strong sulfur taste and was inedible. We settled for the lager.
Next we checked out the Corner sports bar. We got some food and drinks. The mixed quesadillas were very good. Went next door to the Star Café (like a Star Bucks sorta). Kids got drinks they liked. We turned in for the night. Our room was very chilled and felt good, initially.
Day 1
Woke up cold. The AC just ran and ran. Well rested but chilly. Since we had our sales breakfast scheduled, we slept in while the family went to the breakfast buffet. When we did get up, we were annoyed to find our devices were mostly uncharged. We couldn’t explain it. The room’s phone clock also had the wrong time.
Sales Presentation
We went to the lobby where two people confirmed we had our IDs and a credit card. We were then taken to another woman in the Kukulkan bar who collected demographic information from us. Next, introduced to Luis who took us to the Grand for our presentation breakfast. When we arrived here, I started a stopwatch. We were told the presentation would take only 90 minutes of our time. Reviews said that wasn’t even close.
The Grand is crazy beautiful. It is Luxury. The buffet was wonderful. Luis explained to us how Iberostar operates (a business model partnership with booking.com and Expedia). Effectively they broker the rooms and own most of the reservations. The sales opportunity is for repeat vacationers and only able to be offered one time. The deal is that by being a member, you can book directly with Iberostar and that saves you money (25% off public rate).
We returned to the Maya lobby and into the Iberostar Club - the sales area. They went through the tiers of membership and explained it in detail. We took a long time and they answered all our questions. VERY OFTEN Luis checked on us and reminded us we could leave at any time and get our tickets. There was no obligation. He and someone else showed us math on savings and value over time, depending on how we vacation or may do so in the future. The process felt like buying a car a bit, especially since we didn’t plan on making a purchase. In the end, we decided to become members at a good starting level. This came with Club member benefits, and we could extend those benefits to our family vacationing with us. After it was all said and done, paperwork and all, it took 4 hours and 40 minutes. To reiterate, we were NEVER pressured to buy something we didn’t want and told REPEATEDLY we could leave at any time.
Back in the room it was very cold. AC never turned off even if we set it to off. Room 6675. The connecting room 6674, the room AC would turn off often. Had to have the thermostat set to 21C for it to cool anything. Also, our devices weren’t charging, and the clock was wrong again. I believe the outlets are motion-controlled and when no one is present, the power turns off. If this is accurate, this is a terrible experience. We need outlets that work all the time. I have a device that charges my watch and two phones at the same time and could not plug in near the bed as no outlets.
We walked around towards dinner at Trattoria Olivetti – Italian. The pool was clean and busy with a fun vibe. My family was impressed with the amenities and availability of drinks and service. It was as my wife and I remembered 13 years prior.
The meal was wonderful. The minestrone soup was good. Margarita pizza was flatbread style, a lot of crust. Entrée lasagna was delicious. The “Tagliata Di Manzo” steak was the most tender steak I’ve ever had. The tiramisu was super soft but well-flavored. While we had dessert, we watched a couple get a tableside preparation of something. We later learned it was the “Spaghetti Cacio E Pepe” entrée. Had we known that we might have ordered it.
Day 2
A member benefit is a VIP breakfast at El Rancho. The Maya breakfast buffet is at La Marina, which shares space with El Rancho. The El Rancho side includes a buffet but also an exclusive breakfast menu. The Avocado toast and Chilaquiles were fantastic! The buffet had everything you would need, like La Pagoda (the Lindo buffet). Service was good for breakfast, kept the drinks filled. The breakfast favorite for the kids was hashbrown potatoes. Egg station was good. The bread was fresh. The cream cheese was not to our expectations. There were a lot of options, for every taste.
The Pirate Ship waterpark is for small kids which they loved. There were shaded seats. Shade is important. The August sun will cook you. Adjacent to this area are the water slides. Both are open from 10a to 5p. The slides are short, and there was never a long line.
Pools. The Lindo and Maya share the kid pool and slides, the main pool with a swim-up bar and wave pool. There are more private pools on the Maya side. I never saw anyone in them. The water was very warm and clean. The swim-up bar was always busy but never a line. Good liquor would be used, but I noticed it was only on request. I stayed with Bacardi with rum drinks and Don Julio or Hornitos for tequila. If you will be drinking a lot, strongly recommend asking for the good stuff. Your head will thank you.
The beach was great. We read a lot of reviews from June and July about seaweed being an issue. There was barely any seaweed. The beach was busy but still spots to sit. The sand was soft and clean. There are walkways that are kept blown free of sand. There is a place to get premade burgers and hotdogs and snacks, self-service. I was surprised at how tasty the burger was and the fixings were all present. They have a bar next door to keep you happy. My kids said the soft-serve ice cream tasted weird, but they ate it nonetheless. The rinse stations were great to take the sand and salt off. I think there is an opportunity to have another towel station at the beach. To my knowledge, there was only ONE place to get and drop off towels, and that was at the main pool area.
Since we upgraded to the Star Prestige Club we had access to upgraded seating with comfy cabanas and a special bar with top-shelf options, and bar butler service. I learned later that we could also get towels at this place too. The drinks were fantastic. Some of the servers or bartenders asked what brand you liked, and others did not. I had a tamarind mojito that was tremendous there. Chilling at the beach was one of our favorite things to do.
The water was warm, the waves were calm, and the slope of the beach was very gradual. There were a few spots in the sea with rocks, be advised. We brought aqua shoes so no issues. I did have a small tropical fish following me around, otherwise, I didn’t see any other aquatic life.
There was plenty of wildlife though. Coati are all over the beach and mangroves. They get close and will nab food if it is unattended but are friendly and entertaining. The black birds do too. At night we saw raccoons in our building center. There are cats too. Iguanas are common. Peacocks make an appearance.
We did get a few mosquito or sand flea bites. We did see staff spraying for insect control. Our room did have some very tiny bugs at the minibar. They weren’t getting into anything though; I checked the snacks and water often.
Dinner was at the Japanese place. It is dinner and a show. We had some dietary restrictions with pork and shellfish, so there were many things we couldn’t have. Rather than ramen, we were served salads (very good). Rather than shrimp, we had whitefish. Our chef and entertainer Uriel was great. Most of us cleaned our plates.
Afterward, we rode to the shopping center, Pueblo Paraiso. Very clean square with shops and a play area for small children. We were able to get ice cream and crepes there.
We ended the evening back at the Lindo theatre. They were doing karaoke which was fun. By the time I got enough liquid courage, the song list was full.
Day 3
Breakfast at El Rancho/La Marina. Same good service, bagel and lox a favorite.
Later we caught up with my brother-in-laws. They used one of the perks of being with Star Prestige Club which is an included round of golf or massage per adult per stay. I do not golf, but they told me it’s one of the nicest courses they have ever played on.
Others in our group got massages that day at the spa, which is located at the shopping center. I did not get to go inside. I believe all guests can get 1 hour of access included for the wet areas. Our new club membership also provided access. The massages were good I hear, not very deep unless requested.
Later that day was more water slides and beach. On our way back we stopped at the main pool with the swim-up bar. The shade inside was welcome from the hot sun. Our girls liked that they could get strawberry and mango smoothies. Above the swim-up bar is a place to get ice cream. The Star Friends also run games there we learned later.
Dinner was at El Tapatio, the Mexican place. The appetizers were good. As someone who likes spice, I appreciated the bold flavors in their sauces. The menu was more hit or miss with my family. The fish of the day was tilapia and very “fishy”. The enchiladas were in a homemade mole. I could tell it was complex but I wasn’t a fan. The kids really enjoyed the quesadillas.
Day 4
Breakfast at La Pagoda, the buffet for the Lindo. The selection seemed similar to La Marina at the Maya, but more spacious. 7 of our 11 total were leaving today. Morning at the wave pool. Wave times are posted. They are not large, but it’s enjoyable. Learned that the Blue Hawaii drink is fantastic. While not crowded, this pool bar had a steady line of folks. Quick family lunch at La Pagoda. Burgers, strip steak, and fries were the favorites.
During my family’s checkout, there were questions about charges related to canceled and rescheduled massages. Took my brother-in-law about 20 minutes to work out.
For a late lunch, we went to Under the Sea, the American seafood grill. While all the restaurants have designs and décor, this place was the coolest. To enter you walk through blue cordage hanging from the ceiling. It is designed like the ocean and has reclaimed garbage made into sea life. It was nearly empty when we were seated and took a while to get a server. The food was very good. The fish “Baja Tacos” were delicious. My wife enjoyed both her beet salad and grilled rib eye. My daughter said the chicken nuggets were the best.
Got ice cream at the place above the pool, and we played Mexico Bingo. Relaxed in our freezer room until dinner at L’Etoile, the French place.
L’Etoile is very classy. We were greeted with a glass of champagne and a small bite. We all got the French onion soup (yummy). I got the tenderloin in the pepper sauce which was tender. My daughter got the strip steak, also good. Wife got the “Filet Saumon Roti” which she enjoyed. It was the first time she’d been asked how she wanted her salmon cooked. For dessert, we wanted the “Crepes Suzette Flamees Au Grand Marnier” but were told they were all out. Overall, a wonderful meal.
We went to the Shopping Center to attend the Mexican Night at the plaza there. It was wonderful. There were so many places to get drinks featuring Mezcal. There were fun events for kids and adults alike. By the time we arrived, the kid’s program was ending. We got to see dancing with cups on heads, and a comedy scene with volunteers.
Day 5
Breakfast at La Marina with avocado toast. We went to register and drop off our kids at the Star Camp. There was a lack of information available on Star Camp in my opinion. Registration opens at 9:30 am. Each day there is a different set of activities that are time-boxed. This day they went to the pools and water activities starting on the Beaches/Del Mar side and then the water slides on the Lindo/Maya side. Onsite, they had a big space and a great outdoor play area. I also saw bicycles that might be available for use. That would have been nice to know on check-in.
We took a walk from Star Camp over to a lobby. We saw colorful Macaw birds and white swans. Like everything we have seen it was well-maintained and busy this time of morning. We noticed for the first time a colored dot system for traveling around the property. There was a green line train here, and an orange line train at the Lindo. At the Maya, we did not see this (nor was this explained in a way that was remembered at check-in). Apparently, we could take a ride to the beach, which is rather far from our building. This would have been super useful to know.
We ate at La Pagoda and collected our kids after lunch. The freshly made tostada was yummy. Back to the beach. We got a Star Prestige cabana and enjoyed the water. Again, amazing drinks from that bar.
Dinner was at El Rancho, the Maya steakhouse. We had read many reviews that called out Irving as a great server. I expected to see every server named Irving. Our server was named Erik though and he was great. The Caesar salad and rib eye tacos were good. The Blooming Onion was overcooked on the lower pedals and undercooked on the inside. The steaks were cooked to order and larger than expected. The mushroom sauce needed salt. The chimichurri was great. My daughters had extra fries which were just right. The vegetable chips could be avoided.
Iluzio
We got a ride from the lobby and were at the Grand 30 minutes early. The theatre is set up like a piano bar, but with a stage at the base. It was very swanky and cool. It smelled of fresh leather. Our server was ready with champagne and brought us a themed cocktail. He kept our table fed with drinks. Most were delicious.
The show was worth it. It was a mix between a singing show and a magic show. Nowhere near Cirque Du Soleil but for a resort outside of Vegas, it was excellent. All the songs were well sung. The tricks were done to perfection. I enjoyed the solos before and after the main performance. Strongly recommend it.
Final Day 6
Packed up, scheduled bell service for 10:45 pick up. We went to the shops to use the Iberocash we earned. We also had a 15% discount as another perk of Club membership. The prices in the shops are super, super high. The bill was over $400 USD. Since there were BOGO deals, the 15% didn’t apply we were told.
We checked out around 10:45 with the Star Prestige desk. The person was on her phone when I was telling her our room numbers and accidentally checked out the wrong rooms. Luckily that stay was the same number of days and also had no room charges. The wristbands are removed as part of checkout. Afterwards, our ride was there but our baggage was not. The bell service called around and then had the face of “oops”. They went to get the luggage, took another 15 minutes. Got a drink in the prestige club while waiting.
Summary
Fantastic vacation with good service, great amenities, comfortable accommodations, and tons to do. We loved it so much we agreed to become Club members for a small fortune for many years to come. We will be back for certain.
Highlights: “Everything” was the feedback given by my family when asked what they liked. The service was excellent and friendly. The beds were great. The food and drink were great and unlimited.

Lowlights: Our room AC. Little bugs in the minibar area. Electrical outlets were few and did not stay active. Only one place for beach towels. Would prefer more available information on Star Camp and train/cart usage. The mobile app was unusable. The elevator was nonfunctional.

This is our eighth time staying at the iberostar and 1st at the Maya. We have stayed at all the hotels on the compound and feel that meyer was probably the best out of all of them. Over the last couple of years they have made improvements to the restaurants in buffets at Lindo and Maya. The staff is always extremely helpful and kind. In terms of all the hotel rooms, the grand was the nicest by far, but the pool at the grand tends to be too windy to sit at. The beach front is always well-maintained and there is not a lot of seaweed this year. In previous years the beach has been full of seaweed, and while the resort does a really good job at cleaning it, they just could not keep up. But again this is Moura mother nature problem than the resorts problem. The pool at the Maya is very large and there’s plenty of places that are children friendly. I would say the next major update should be the pool at the Maya. It’s just a little out to date. more mother nature problem than the resorts problem. The pool at the Maya is very large and there’s plenty of places that are children friendly. I would say the next major update should be the pool at the Maya. It’s just a little out to date. The rooms are always very clean, and the staff always does a nice job at decorating the room when requested. The food over the past two years has improved greatly! Especially if you have any food allergies to gluten. They’ve labeled all their food items of specific allergies. This is quite helpful for us when we travel. The staff was also very accommodating at making dishes that were gluten-free in the specific restaurants. If you’re looking for a good vacation I would definitely choose this resort

My family and I were there from 10/28 to 11/2 and were so sad when it was time to come home. We were in 6505 and 6504 and the rooms were great! All the staff at this resort was amazing! Upon check-in we were offered an additional bed in Our kids' room which worked out great because the couch in there was not a sofa bed. We were only able to get into the Italian and Steakhouse restaurants but both were great. We were happy to see that they had a haunted house and special themed buffet on halloween along with a really fun show! The entertainment team was great! They have some extremely talented singers. Although out kids didn't go to the kids club, that didn't stop their staff from inviting them to join in their activities at the pool and around the resort when they saw them. We were very impressed with the steps taken to protect everyone throughout the resort. Even during pool activities they stressed social distancing. The one time I forgot my mask at the table when going back up to the buffet, I was very kindly asked if I would please put on a mask, and I was actually glad they stopped me to ask. We had family pictures done while we were there, and although they were a bit pricey, they came out amazing! Again the Star Friends entertainment crew was wonderful. The beach was closed the first two days we were there because of damage caused by hurricane Zeta, but they worked very hard to get it open. There was some seaweed on the edge of the sea, but the water felt great and was clear of the seaweed about 10 feet in. They also had a machine removing the seaweed from the beach daily. The food on the beach was also really good. I could go on and on about what a wonderful experience we had. We would not hesitate to visit this resort again! I only wish I would have written this sooner when I still had some of the staff names that made our experience special fresh in my head so I could mention them.

Visited with family December 2020. This was my 5th and last visit to Iberostar Maya (Riviera Maya, Mexico). I convinced my wife to stay there because the prior stays were great. The hospitality, room service, kids club, shows, food, restaurants were great in the prior stays. Everything has changed and it's not due to COVID. There were several disappointments:

Drinking water: the hotel did not provide bottle water anymore. They use these glass bottle that you have to get refilled at water stations. This past year I stayed in 3 other resorts in Cancun and they all still provide bottle water.

Beer: only beer given was 2XX and you only get 2 in the minifridge. If you want more you have to pay for it. I don't mind paying for it but in the prior stays the hotel had several types of beer brands and unlimited beer with the upgraded stay.

Restaurants: Why pay for the upgraded stay if all the restaurant were going to be filled up. Apparently, a benefit if staying in the Maya section is eating at several restaurants and not just at the buffet. Big disappointment when I was told by the concierge that I had to make restaurant appointments prior to my stay!!!

Golf Cart Transportation: Golf cart transportation was very efficient in the prior stays. We would just call room service and within 5 minutes someone would come and pick you up. Not this time!! More than 20 minutes of wait time for a golf cart and often the drivers would ignore you.

Iberostar is going downhill big time, there are several other resorts way better than Iberostar.

Dear guest, Thank you for your comments regarding our hotel Iberostar. We regret that you did not completely enjoy your stay. Allow us to mention that Iberostar Hotels & Resorts is proud to be environmentally conscious and we have created several initiatives through our Wave of Change. This is a pioneer movement built on the core values of sustainability and trust built on three pillars: moving beyond plastics, the responsible consumption of seafood and improving coastal health. We truly regret this meant an inconvenience for you. However, we provide bottles of water in the room which our guests can refill in our Vero Water Stations, it is worth to mention that everything is properly sanitized and all procedures are supervised by our Hygiene & Quality department. Thank you for your feedback and we hope to host you again so we can recover your trust towards our brand. Kind regards, Quality Management Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya

We just got back from a 7 night stay at Iberostar Parisio Maya and had an AMAZING time there. We have stayed at the resort before and were worried about the changes we might see due do Covid-19 but the staff at Iberostar Parisio Maya more than made up for the restrictions in place by the government. Our rooms and the resort is clean and we constantly saw employees spraying and cleaning any surface that a guest may come in contact with in the common areas so not once did we feel unsafe due to Covid. The food was better than it was two years ago and was delicious with every meal we ate and the service from the wait staff was also great. The golf course is in spectacular condition and really is one of our favorites to play. The beach was perfect with zero seaweed and crystal clear ocean water.

A big thank you to Veronica at the pool bar who took excellent care of us, Isaac and Joyce at the beach bar were also amazing. Alex, who is a part of the Star Friends Entertainment team was great and was always making us smile. But the biggest thank you goes to one of the managers, Alba who gave our family a truly wonderful and amazing experience and made us feel like we were a part of the family.

We will definitely be back and hope to once again see the friends we made during this vacation.

My husband and I, and our 13 year old daughter stayed at IB Selection Paraiso Maya from 4/5-4/11 during a spring break. This was our first stay at this resort. In the past we stayed at IB Paraiso Del Mar however it was many years ago, and we also stayed at IB Selection Bavaro in Punta Cana 2 years ago. Iberostar does not dissapoint. We had a fantastic vacation even during the Covid times. The place was not at capacity and felt very roomy. The pools are large and we had plenty of room to spread out and not invade anyone's space. The temperature of the water was just perfect in April. The lazy river was very relaxing. My daughter enjoyed the slides as well. The food was better than what we expected after reading some reviews and we can be picky. We did not get sick and this is very important to us. I also have to mention "Star Cafe" as their hot or iced coffee was superb and you must try their peach iced tea!

The ocean was amazing. We had 3 red flag days, and 3 yellow flag days. My daughter enjoyed the waves and boogie boarding. I prefer when the ocean is calmer so we both got what we wanted. There was a very small amount of sea weed when we were there and it was picked up every day. We were still able to enjoy the water. I understand that this is seasonal. I was really hoping it would be minimal since the beach is very important to us and a lot of sargassum can ruin it. The resort was very clean and perfectly manicured. The workers were all very friendly and work hard every day. Our room was cleaned perfectly every morning and the fridge was refilled every day. We loved the location of our room in building 61, we were given a pool view which was greatly appreciated! The beds were very comfortable, pillows so-so, they are a little bit hard. My daugher enjoyed the hammock on the balcony. My other favorite part was the size of the room. We have been to many resorts in Mexico but IB Maya had the biggest and most comfortable layout of the room. We also liked the second door leading into the hallway as you can close it and not disturb others if they are still sleeping. The closets are in that area as well and are great in size. We have agreed that we would definitely return to this resort and we usually like to try a different place when we choose our vacation.

My boyfriend and I visited Iberostar Paraiso Maya July 13th-19th. I was a little nervous to travel during the pandemic and really considered canceling our trip - sooooo glad I didn’t. I have to applaud the staff, management and all those who contributed to all the safety measures that have been put in place. Upon arrival we were met by the transportation service provide by member services. Once we arrived at the car safety measures began. Our luggage was sprayed with disinfectant and we were provided hand sanitizer. Our driver wore safety glasses, gloves and a mask. Upon arrival at the hotel our luggage was sprayed again with disinfectant spray, we were provided hand sanitizer and our temperature was taken. We also had to disinfectant our shoes by stepping in a solution before walking on the lobby floor. Once we arrive in the Star Prestige lounge the entire check in process has been revamped for safety. They no longer provide maps or any type of paper information, this can all be found on the app. The safety protocol included the staff wearing face mask and shields, constant cleaning/disinfecting of surfaces including the golf carts used for transportation around the resort. The pool chairs are disinfected daily between 7-8 am, since I’m an early riser I often saw the man in the bright orange jumpsuit 😊. The star friends really work hard to keep the staff entertained/engaged. They continue to have daily pool games and other activities while stressing social distancing constantly.
The buffet was open for breakfast/lunch daily. Wasn’t open for dinner until the 17th. They did their best to keep traffic limited in the buffet area in order to practice social distancing. But this was a little difficult when guest don’t know how to read the signs displayed. There were clearly posted signs notifying guest the direction to enter and exit the buffet area. Not the typical buffet you are use to, you can no longer serve yourself, staff is available to serve you. Mask were not required for the guest but many guest wore mask as we did while walking to and from areas on the resort.
Iberostar is making ever effort to keep their staff and guest safe. I truly felt safer while on the resort than I do going to my local grocery store in the U.S.
Another great trip!!!! Thank you Iberostar and the wonderful/amazing Joel in Star Prestige.

This was our second trip to this resort and let me tell you, we were not disappointed! even though during check-in we were not satisfied that originally we were put in building 60 with just one king bed (given the fact that it was 2 adults and 2 kids traveling). they offered us an upgrade at a discounted rate, however, in the end we ended up with a wonderful room on the 3rd floor of building 62 with 2 beds plus a rollaway. Thank you! To those of you who seek pristine granite counter tops and top notch technologies in your rooms, this is not a resort for you! however, we specifically choose Iberostar properties for their tropical and laid back feel, luscious greenery, immaculate grounds, animals/birds on the property and extremely friendly and dedicated staff! I want to mainly concentrate on some of the positive things that are worth mentioning:
Special thank you to Jessica, Paco, Andrea, Kevin and Sarah at the Star Camp! our 6 year old wanted to go there every day! they are fun, engaging, accommodating and it is a safe environment with lots of activities! if it was her choice, she probably would have spent more time at the camp! we cannot wait until our little one will be able to join in the adventures! make sure your kids try it, and you will not be disappointed!
Thank you to the waiter Orlando (at the Lindo) property, who took time every morning during breakfast to play a quick game of Tic-Tac-Toe with our daughter! it’s the little things that make the trip memorable! also, could not pass mentioning our concierge Martha who helped us with all the reservations and of course Jorge (who remembered us from our last year’s visit). too bad we did not get the names of our wonderful housekeeping staff, who kept our room always exceptionally clean and stocked with extra towels!
we really enjoyed dining at the 'Under the Sea' restaurant as well as the Hibachi restaurant where the chef cooked us a delicious meal, while keeping us entertained!
oh, did I mention their Star Cafe?! if you like coffee... its heaven!
did I mention the beach was pristine!?! yes, some days it was a bit windy (especially in the evening) but it made it so much more fun to enjoy the waves. And on the last morning, there was no wind, no waves, a million fish right by the shore! simply amazing! and no seaweed!!! I could go on and on for days with the positive things I have to say about this resort. Yes, there are things that they could improve on, but that did not bother us at all. Go for yourself and experience it all!

My boyfriend, parents, and I really enjoyed spending seven nights at Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya. It was a wonderful respite from pandemic life. The resort did a great job with social distancing, masking, and sanitizing so we felt completely safe. The staff went out of their way to greet us and make our stay special.

During the day, we chilled out at the beach or pool with plenty of space to explore and maneuver. The resort is only a short cab ride from Playa del Carmen, where we spent one afternoon. While the buffet was only open for breakfast, our favorite restaurant was El Rancho, the steakhouse. We received excellent service from Jorge. We especially enjoyed evening activities like name-that-tune and Mexican loteria led by the entertainment team. Thanks to Zitlali who was so much fun! We also enjoyed a different show each night and live music in the “snake bar.” We wish we could stay longer!

At arrival found the hole complex is belongs to the Iberostar group and is very secure. We drove in on a rental vehicle and found there is a very convinient parking area. Check in was easy as club members allows this process to take place on a private office. The lobe is huge. Covid-safety mesures are very well followed, from constant desinfections, lots of clean up stations and covid testing on site. Our suite was clean and fresh always by the housekeeping personel-great job! Dining was great thanks to Rafael- the sommelier. If you get invited to the wine tasting, go for it you will not regret it. If you are a wine enthusiast, make sure you get a hold of Rafael. He will make shure that every dinner experience becomes your favorite part of the trip. Thanks for making our experience worth the trip. Entretainment guys at nigth theater show do great and the have really invested on putting on great shows. This location of iberostar is great if you plan to travel to Cancun or Playa del Carmen as it is in the middle of both towns. By the way, the resort has a great new filtered water system that will allow you to refill thoughout the resort. <No extra charge>Thanks guys for looking out on the well being of our environment!
