We took this trip in May 2021, so crowd wise (there were none, two lobbies out of 4 resorts compromising this complex were completely closed at a time) my review is most likely not relevant anymore:) However, I would love to praise hardworking people of this country and the hotel in general. The stuff was wearing mask non-stop, in the heat and humidity, everywhere outdoors and indoors. The hotel was spotless, they cleaned and cleaned it, wiped, disinfected, even no sand on the paths or leaves on the lawns. Stuff was very friendly. The suits at Maya were sort of tired, getting some refreshment and update would be nice but given the specific of the design of the property (we stayed at Lindo 10 years ago, and my parents at Del Mar a few years back) they are not too bad, just outdated. Comparing to our previous stay back in 2011 there were new water slides added for adults and older kids and they are very fun addition and a new ship playground for kids (almost wanted them not to have it as we spent too much of the time there with our 3 yo toddler:)) Also, indoors/outdoors playground is pretty much a big and very cool play gym. You need to book it advance but the time slot was available for the same day we called in. The new gym is AWESOME! They definitely had someone who new what he/she was doing and put a lot of thought in love in this space. Plenty of the equipment, all sort of it, all new, not too many people, powerful AC, plenty of clean towels and water refill stations - muy bonito:)) upstairs was closed at a time. The territory is also nice and is actually one of the reasons after so many years we chose to come back here as it's lush and green, has beautiful Mexico-inspired design touches and it's pretty nice to have a stroll between all the properties. (with Maya bracelets you can have a drink and food anywhere (except Grand) Food-wise, lunch options were one buffet (selection was ok, same everyday, not many meat options) and one a la carte restaurant which was nice. Breakfast was one buffet but very-very nice. For dinners, some a la carte restaurants which were located in the closed areas were not available, others available were all bookable but with some flexibility about time. Out of 6 dinners 1 we had in buffet as we couldn't book anything and two nights in a raw we had to go to Hibachi. They were good enough, definitely not Michelin stars and sushi and steaks sure can be done better but given the nature of all inclusive in Mexico - no complains here. Drink selection is better at the main lobby and the barmen were nice, not too much of the top shelve choices, i.e. shot of Macallan 12 was 20 USD, but Jack and JB are included. Wines were ok, some local and cheap choices, but nicer selection is available for room service and was priced reasonably without crazy overcharge. WiFi was good, even enough to do some WFH Sanitizers were available everywhere, free antigen tests were performed quickly (you need to sign up before) and result were ready in a few hours. Bottom line, for the price you pay - they sure deliver, and since we have visited Iberostars in DR and Jamaica, this location is definitely is the best and a step above.

Hotel's Favorite
Stayed at Paraiso Maya Suites from 8/29 to 9/5 2021 I will try to make this fair and honest About the area: It's located about 45 minutes south of the Cancun Airport. It's between Peurto Moreles and Playa Del Carmen. Iberostar has something like 4 or 5 properties at this location; Del Mar, Playa Beach, Lindo, Maya Suites, and Grand. It's like a very large campus and covers a LOT of acerage. Depending on which property you book, you will probly have access to some of the neighboring properties as well. Paraiso Maya Suites check-in: The lobby is gorgeous, done up in a Mayan theme. The furniture/benches to sit on while waiting to be checked in are NOT comfortable. They sit too close to the ground and the cushions slide everywhere. They need better furniture. The check-in process was ridiculously slow. Much slower than I think it should have. Took a good 45 minutes or longer, then I was asked to speak with a lady at a desk to arrange for a covid test before my travel back home to the United states. While the check-in process was really slow, everyone was very friendly and courteous, and greeted me with a smile. The room: My room was 6101. Each building has a concierge. The conceirge desk was literally right outside my door! I thought that was kind of funny. Anyway, the room was very nice and felt like a palace! The bathroom was enormous, had a jetted tub which worked really well, a separate walk-in shower, and a double-sink vanity. The soap dispensers in the tub and shower area are CHEAP and need upgrading! The one in my shower kept falling off the wall! I didn't see any signage explaining that you need to SQUEEZE the bottles to get them to dispense. I (Like many others, I'm sure) made the mistake of trying to press from the top of the dispenser, and then CLUNK! It would fall off the wall!) I kept bumping into it in the shower, and CLUNK! It would fall again! The maid probably got tired of having to put it back on the wall, and finally left the shampoo bottle on the shower window sill instead. In the hallway as you enter the room, there's a counter space with large closets on either side of it. There's a safe in one of the closets, plenty of shelf space, places to hang your clothes. There's an ironing board/iron, and umbrella. Under the counter is a small fridge behind the cabinet which is stocked daily with a couple cans of soda, some beer, etc. The room didn't have a coffee maker or microwave, but you really don't need these items, being the restaurants and bars are included in the price. The bed was king-sized, and VERY cofortable! No, I didn't sleep like a baby because, come on, everyone knows babies don't sleep! They just fuss and cry all the time. (At least every baby I've ever watched would) I slept VERY well!!! TV was decent, channel selection was meh, but you probably aren't going to spend much time in the room watching TV, so not a big deal there. Room has ceiling fans, which is a plus, as well as air conditioning which worked VERY well. Also, I don't know if they inject it into the air conditioning system, or use it when they clean the rooms, but there's a certain, fresh, tropical scent or fragrance to the room when you walk in that smells sooooo good!!! There's a separate seating area with a comfortable sofa, a small coffee table, two chairs, and a desk. There's a very large, sliding glass door which leads to a private balcony. Out there is a hammock "chair" and a regular chair. The view was of the trees/jungle. Not much to see, no beach/ocean/or pool view, but still nice. Felt very secluded. The buttons on the phone were mis-programmed. If I wanted to call the bellhop, I'd press the bellhop button but end up getting connected to the spa instead. If I pressed the concierge button, I'd get connected to housekeeping! Too funny. This needs to be fixed!!! With the exception of hearing an ocassional chair being dragged across the floor from the room above me, the room was VERY quiet! It was great. Pools; This is where the resort REALLY shines! The pools are MASSIVE in size! There are something like 5 pools, and this is just within this particular property of the Iberostar campus! They are breathtaking! There were a lot of people there, but it never felt crowded. There was plenty of room to swim around, do laps even, without bumping into someone. This was great! A couple down sides though; As I said, the pools are enormous. There's a lot of walking involved to get from one pool to another. There is only ONE towel hut! This means if you wanted to use the water park, lazy river, or wave pool, you've got to walk WAAAAAAAAY over to the towel hut to get your pool towel, then walk WAAAAAAAAAAY over to the pool you wish to swim in. Pretty ridiculous. I think a better option would be for each pool to have its own. For the large pool, it wouldn't hurt to have a towel hut on both sides of the pool so you don't have to walk way over to the other end. Pool chairs/shade Yes, every resort has their share of chair hogs. This place is no exception. You know who I'm talking about; the people who get up at 6:00 am, put their towels and things on an entire row of chairs, and then disappear for a few hours. Please DON'T be that person!!! I never had much of a problem finding an available pool chair in the mornings, but by noon, the pool area can get a bit crowded. The beach Believe it or not there really IS a beach here. You wouldn't know it. It's hidden, and it's located WAAAAAAY at the back of the resort, behind a bunch of trees. Once you finally locate it, it's breathtaking. It's one of the nicer beaches I've been to. They have showers, a bar, and a snack shack where you may get bugers, hot dogs, and ice cream. Quite a few palapas and lots and lots of lounge chairs. It's nice! It really is! Restaurants The restaurants are scattered throughout the resort. Some are on either side of the large pool, while others are located two counties away (I'm beling sarcastic), waaaaaaaaay over by the lobby. My favorites were the Stake House and the Italian. The Mexican and Japanese restaurants were also quite good. Entertainment There's a large, outdoor theater located under a giant-sized palapa where they feature different shows every night. In the early evening they have the kids from the Star Camp perform, and it's kind of cute to watch. As the evening progresses, the shows get even better. I saw a tribute to Boogie Nights, and was VERY impressed with the lighting and sound. They spared no expense! The effects are state-of-the art. They make it look 3-demensional. Looks VERY cool! I also saw their show which was a tribute to Queen, which was very well-presented. Very impressive. Getting around the resort As a mentioned, the place is HUGE! There is a LOT of walking involved to get from one area of the resort to the other. If you're an older person, or have mobility issues, this resort might not be a good option for you. If you're young and energetic and don't mind the walking, this place is perfect. They DO have golf cart shuttles. Just call the bellhop and they can come and pick you up and shuttle you to where you need to go. Unfortunate mishap: With many vacations, there is usually something that doesn't quite go as planned or something that happens which "Could", if you allow it to, put a damper on things. One morning I jumped into the pool and swam around for a good hour before discovering, to my horror, that I still had my cell phone in my pocket! Oops! Phone no longer works. Guess where my vacation photos were stored? That was dumb. I could have been really upset about that, but I forced myself to laugh it off. Stuff happens. It's all in the attitude. I wasn't going to let that spoil my vacation, and it didn't. Oh, one thing about cell phones; The resort has an app they encourage guests to use. With it, you can make dinner reservations (which ARE required for most restaurants) and view the menus. They're pretty dependant on guests using this app. With my phone not working, this created a bit of a problem. But they DID have printed menus, so all was good. Exploring outside the resort: The resort has everything you could possibly want, but I recommend you pick at least one day to do an excursion of some sort. Get away from the resort for a while and actually explore some of the things Mexico has to offier, maybe mingle with the locals, experience authentic Mexican food, ect. I love sailing and wanted to book a sailing excursion. I had specifically told the lady at the excursion desk which excursion I wanted; (Sea Passion) as I've done that one before and really enjoyed it. She ended up booking me with the wrong one. Yes, it was sailing on a Cataraman, but it WAS NOT with the company I had specifically asked for. YES, there IS a difference. Sailing was still fun, but the lunch and ammenities were extremely lacking compared to the other company I had wanted to sail with. Again, attitude goes a long way here. I just shrugged it off, shook my head and laughed. I told myself, "Next time, MAKE SURE it's the right company!" I still had a good time. Overall I think this a great place! There are a few things that could be improved, but I enjoyed my stay.

Overall I had a blast on my trip to Mexico. The resort was beautiful, the staff were awesome (especially Rodrigo in the sports bar) the pools were incredible and the beach was even better. They had great shows and there was always something to do. The food wasn’t the best, but everything else made up for it. Don’t get me wrong, I could always find something I liked and I never went hungry, but there were a lot of things that just didn’t taste good. My only complaint is that the casino was closed due to Covid and it wasn’t advertised online. I know the resort advertised that some things weren’t open, but I wish they specified what was open and closed because if I knew the casino was closed I probably would have chosen a different hotel.
