I don’t usually give reviews, but I have to give a shout out to the amazing Jorge!! In all our travelings, we’ve never worked with someone as kind and hard working as he is. He always had a smile for us, and helped with any problems, questions, or reservations we needed. He was so patient and sweet to our kids. He once ran outside and around the building to get us a golf cart because the front workers were busy- and it was blazing hot! He was the best- it was hard to say goodbye! The piña coladas and guacamole were especially excellent, and the water was clear and beautiful. Absolutely heavenly, just make sure you use bug spray to and from the beach and in the evenings. Thank you Jorge and staff for the wonderful visit and memories!!

We had the best time as a family at this resort, there were 10 of us total. We had the best time and our time here was too short. This is my 2nd time using Iberostar and they don't disappoint. My whole family was impressed. During this pandemic they are taking all the right precautions. They had sanitizing floor mats before entering the lobby and each restaurant. Temp checks during checkin. Required to use hand sanitizer upon entering every restaurant. The staff was excellent and everyone greets you and are so friendly. We can't wait to go back. 1 small piece of feedback I have. We had our water bottles we needed filling and didn't realize it until it was night time when we got back from the shows. The closest bottle station was located on the 1st floor and back in the cut. It was very dark and I didn't like it. I think lights should be installed above or near the stations for anyone that is filling up at night.

Great stay! I would return to this resort because it is family friendly and has great amenities. On the downside, raccoons and the other little animals were not my favorite part. Buffet food became tiring because none of the 9 restaurants were open due to maintenance.

My sister and I have been loyal Iberostar guests since 2007. Been visiting 1-2 times a year since then. We have always stayed at the Iberostar Tucan/Quetzal property, but with some amazing 'pandemic deals' we found a super good deal to go to the Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya. Knowing what to expect from Iberostar, we knew we would get good service, good food and meet some great people. We did all of that, but there were some things that just didn't quite make it for me. The positives first.. The food....always a good selection on the buffet and great quality. We didn't use the buffet much because we wanted to take advantage of the unlimited a la carte reservations (a nice perk that you dont have at the Tucan/Quetzal unless you join 'the Club'). I was happy with everything that I ordered. Always either piping hot (or cold if it was something refrigerated) and good seasoning. The servers at the restaurants were attentive, polite and happy to help. There was 24 hour room service and we took advantage of that a few times. The menu has plenty of options available. We loved that you could make reservations/cancel reservations and view all menus via the Iberostar App. To reduce the amount of contact, the restaurants have done away with traditional menus, instead they use QR codes to instantly access the menus if you do not have the App. The App also tells you which restaurants are open and when! They are very strict on masking and sanitizing. You must sanitize your shoes, sanitize your hands and wear a mask upon arrival and walking around the food areas. Drinks..My sister and I aren't big drinkers, but we do enjoy a good cocktail!! Better alcohol quality at this than the Tucan/Quetzal, but then again we aren't total spirit snobs. We had great service from the lobby bar (which is really neat looking), pool, beach and theatre bars. The pool and beach have full service so you dont have to leave your lounger. Swim up bar is currently closed due to COVID regulations. Entertainment...The hotel offers a modified entertainment schedule. The gym is open limited hours--I believe right now it's 6am-11am with a limited class schedule. Yoga and TRX training are offered poolside in the mornings. The star camp for children, which usually has full days of activities/entertainment for kids aged 4-16 is running on a limited basis--basically just 1 group of kids of at least 4 years of age. There are games being played at the beach and pool (water volleyball, water basketball, horseshoes, bocci). Every day has a 'crazy pool' and 'crazy beach' game and dancing on the beach (appropriately distanced, of course. They have a kids show in the theatre at night where the kids have an opportunity to be on stage. Then there are 2 night shows (same show, different time)--1 show at 8:30 and the other at 10pm. In between shows they have trivia or some sort of ice breaker game. Sadly the house band doesn't make many appearances at the night time shows--something we LOVED about the Tucan/Quetzal property. You do see the band/singers in small groups playing around the lobby bars and even sometimes at the pool in the afternoon. Check-in/Check-out...We arrived 2 days after the hurricane. Things were pretty disorganized, however I will grant them some grace as they were still recovering 48 hours after the storm. We had to check in at a make shift reception area in the lobby bar (great, I can have a drink while we get a rundown of this hotel and meet our concierge), however we booked a Jr Suite Superior with 2 double beds, and found they had reserved a single king bed room. So we had to wait, ok no biggie. We get our bracelets and explore and eat. Upon arrival, you sanitize your shoes, have your temperature taken and fill out a form attesting that you have not had any of the COVID symptoms recently. Check-out was a bit more organized given they had 10 days to sort of go back to normal--went to the actual reception area to return the keys and pay the eco tax. Room...here's where took some points off of my review. First there was the bed issue. So we had to wait an extra hour while a different room that had 2 double beds was cleaned. We booked a Jr Suite Superior, which is has a nice divider from beds and seating area, has priority location and a little bigger balcony. What we got was definitely not a Jr Suite Superior. We paid slightly (not a lot) more to have this room. But being that we are relatively low maintenance guests and they had just had a hurricane blow through, we didn't press the issue. Our ceiling fan didn't work (looks like a guest may have pulled too hard on the pull cord), only half of the outlets worked, the bathroom only had a few working lights, so it wasn't super bright, and when I turned the hair dryer on it immediately started smoking. I did call to get the hair dryer replaced and it was promptly exchanged. The room had been cleaned all but 1 of the days we were there--not sure if we were forgotten or what and our mini bar was stocked every other day. The complex is HUGE, so be prepared to walk quite a bit--I am super active, so I did not mind this one bit!! It took awhile for me to get my bearings, but I eventually got my bearings straight). They do have the bellmen running golf cart shuttles if you need a ride to other places of the resort. Guests of the Maya have the run of the Lindo, Beach and Del Mar sides, however at this time Lindo was only partially open and the Beach and Del Mar sides were closed. There is a mini mall there as well, which has the eateries and a candy store, pharmacy and little boutique type stores. I think the Discotheque is somewhere near there as well, but I didn't go that way--at this time the mall area was closed. The spa is up and running as well, however I did not take a look since I was not interested in these offerings.

This trip was a perfect, quick getaway for me and my family. I'll leave an overall gist of my stay at the top and then go into the details below! Please note, we came during COVID-19 so these conditions will be different from when you go. I will highlight that their COVID-19 precautions and safety measures were thorough. I would even say they were safer than back home! Now, overall, my trip was an absolute blast. This resort is a perfect place to bring your family to relax, have fun, and leave the details to someone else. We arrived at noon on Wednesday and stayed until Sunday morning and never had any issues. We even took a day trip into Playa Del Carmen and the resort helped make that seamless. After staying here we are planning on returning with the rest of our family in the upcoming months! Now, time for the details! As a side note: I will leave notes throughout this review so you may learn from a few of our mistakes. As I said earlier, we arrived on Wednesday. We took Sun Country and had a pleasant flight. Before we arrived, we already had our resort information emailed to us so we knew exactly what to expect. NOTE: the papers say to go to "column C". There are 2 column C's, one just after you leave the double doors, and another into the crowd of people. You want the second one in the crowd. Don't worry though, the people were not pushy and your valet from the airport has a sign with your name on it. We hopped in a cab (they sanitize your shoes, go figure!) and about 35 min later were at the resort. This resort is nothing short of stunning. The architecture follows ancient Mayan structures and everything from the bathrooms to the hotel rooms looked amazing. On top of that, at night everything lights up and looks even better. I put this small section above the rest to explain the layout of this resort. Imagine three thin columns. All of them lead to the beach and each is a different section of this resort. During covid, no matter which you book you will get put into the "Maya" one. That is the middle column with the most events and pools. As far as we heard, the left side column is the economic side and the right the expensive side (with the beach to the north). Nonetheless, during covid only the middle is open! Even with only the middle open, this place is a city in itself. They have a golf course, event center, shopping district, everything! Even with that all closed, we still found ourselves wowed by how extensive this resort is. NOTE: you will do *a lot* of walking so get ready for that. They have transportation if requested. As you pull up, you'll first discover that your check-in is *very* structured. You tell them your name and you meet your first attendant. You get your temp checked and they bring you to a table, they check you into your room, and you wait to meet your second attendant. They sit you in their lobby (a place you should visit nightly) which is a highlight of the resort. The lobby has a full bar, a few shops around it, and a nice quaint coffee shop with snacks! You then meet a concierge that will help plan your entire stay. In our case, we only elected to reserve our dinner reservations (they have 5 restaurants, ranging from buffet to American to Japanese, all were very good) and just go with the flow. NOTE: they will push this "breakfast event" onto you over and over. They say it's not a timeshare presentation and that you get "points" for going. Now, we didn't go so I can't say for sure what exactly they do, but if you keep saying no there is no penalty. We even got points for a future stay without even going! After that, you get a ride (all rides in this resort are by golf cart) to your room and the rest is up to you! After getting to our room, our vacation became up to us. We spent a day at the pool (they have MANY: wave, lazy river *without tubes*, volleyball, mega-size, normal size), a day at the beach (with cabanas, music, a bar, and a grill with burgers, hot dogs, etc.), a day in town (walk down 5th street!) and overall just bummed around the resort. We never felt as if there were nothing to do. The pool was always busy with small events and people, the restaurants were always open to grab a bite/drink, everything is at your own pace. We did find ourselves at their concert area a lot. They have nightly shows and Kahoot games that were always a blast. You will find yourself asking "what now?" as you go from place to place. There is also nothing wrong with relaxing in your rooms. Ours didn't really have a view (will include pictures) but was cleaned daily and had a great location. It slept all of us comfortably and even had its own sitting area with deck. NOTE: the pool is busy until close so expect some loud music in the background. I wanted to include this small section about the workers. Everyone was nice and inviting. They don't all necessarily know English but they are always willing to help. I found it fun to try and talk to them in Spanish and they enjoyed it too! The people in the lobbies and event staff are the best. They are always looking to have a conversation with you and to check in about how everything is going. It was very nice to have such caring workers at this resort stay. To conclude our stay, we simply went back to the lobby, gave them our keys, and a cab was waiting for us to return to the airport. AIRPORT NOTE: because of covid, you will have to fill out either a paper or electronic form. There is no sign or notice until you get sent out of line. After getting your boarding pass, you will go up the escalators, head right then left, and see a ton of people standing around. You have to complete one PER PERSON. It was super hectic so just expect this before you return home. Everything after that was a breeze. If you're still reading this, nice job! I honestly could write a book about our stay and the individual fun times we had. To try and wrap this all up, we had an amazing time. We never once had any issues and had such a great time that we will be returning with more family. Thank you!!!
