I was in Catalonia Bayahibe between 05/15 and 05/23, room 1202. On the morning of 05/18 the hotel staff did an activity on the beach called "Olympic Games", where they had to pop balloons on the beach, I found this strange kind of joke with plastic on the beach but I thought they were going to clean it up. After lunch I cleaned all the plastic you can see in the pictures, by myself. I spoke with the customer service, they are very grateful, but in the following days no one went to clean the beach and every day I found plastic from the stupid game made on the beach. The hotel has an important role with the environment, it has many posters talking about its role in the environment, it shares a lot of things about the environment and recycling on instagram, but a guest has to pick up all the plastic garbage left by the hotel on the beach and, after speaking to customer service they have not been cleaning the beach. On my last day I still found plastic from the balloons on the beach. I'm very disappointed. I tried to resolve this with the hotel without internet sharing, but unfortunately it did not work. I hope this serves to change behavior.

78 GUESTS + Bride and Groom The onsite wedding coordinator Andry was very helpful from the beginning to the end. She was pleasant to speak with and really helped me get the Vision we had for the wedding as much as possible. I brought some decorations to make it more personal and Andry helped fill in what I was missing. It was a perfect imperfection. Some things agreed upon wasn't at the ceremony but compensated on replacing with something else. *FOOD: Food served at the wedding was good. We opt in the chicken but i think the Salmon would've been good too as the A la Carte in this resort had really good Grilled Salmon. I added a Mexican Buffet because i was worried the food wouldn't be good. So that was a waste because people barely touched it. So I dont recommend getting an extra buffet if you're doing a sit down dinner since the h'orderves and main dinner was good and they serve enough food. But if I would go back, instead of getting the Mexican buffet I recommend a fruit buffet as it will be refreshing. Allergies , if this is a concern I recommend to emphasize it and do a reminder on your meeting with the coordinator.. and do another REMINDER the night before the wedding just to be sure. Do your due diligence. *DRINKS: They have good drinks at this resort but hubby and the other boys like them Premium drinks so they brought their own Cognac and Whisky. But if you're good with cocktail drinks, vodka/tequilla shots then there is no need to bring. *DJ* The wedding package that we got was the most expensive one which was the Dreams package. I was disappointed to discover that the " DJ " that came with it was just a person playing Stop and Play with the machine. No equipment etc. In Canada when we say regular Dj this person will at least have a turntable but no lights. My guests all love to dance and having a good DJ was just as important as the ceremony. I voiced out my disappointment with Andry and asked if she can give me a discount to upgrade to the Premium DJ, Andry was more than happy to do so. I provided a playlist ahead of time with Title , Artists and Version (this will help the DJ alot). IT WAS SO WORTH IT! Our guests had an amazing time. The Dj was great. Good Music. Great Food and Amazing Ambiance. I recommend having your Wedding here. If you want to see more clips of the wedding you can check out my Instagram @KAROLEENUH . My recommendation to Catalonia Bayahibe . Include the premium DJ and the Terrace Restaurant Venue to your Dreams of Love package cost. This way there is no surprises along the way and people can properly budget. If the guests is paying for the most expensive package, it should be understood that they want he BEST venue that you have at the location and a Premium DJ. Overall I will give it 4.5 STARS. Thank you Andry for a job well done!

NO AIR CONDITIONING IN THE ROOM. 38 C or 80 F in all 7rooms we had. Mosquitos and ants with wings in the room. When we complain about temperature in the room, they simply promise to fix and never fix. When we ask to switch the room, they said no room available. Last year were the same problems. NO improvement since then. Shortage with bath towels. They are very old and stinky. To management: Immediate improvement needed, or you will lose your visitors.

This was our third time staying at Catalonia Bayahibe. We feel is a a bit of a well keep secret. The beautiful blue Caribbean seas, warm white sand makes this place very desirable among travelers. The huge bonus four us is were ETC gold members. I tell you the staff treat you like royalty. Thank you Mauricio, Kelvin, Garry, Freddy, Amaury, Miguel, Domingo. You all go that extra mile to make our stay extra special. Also special shout out to Johnny at the gym - go Toronto Blue Jays. I encourage people that are looking for a true relaxing vacation with excellent food, you don't have to look any further - choose Catalonia Bayahibe

A lot of animation whole day. Food dinner is not warm- cold products like cake etc are not cold but completely warm. Bad hygiene in buffet restaurant; service is not friendly at restaurant, at the central pub is ok; long waiting for drinks in buffet restaurant; a lot of personel but doing nothing. There are construction work in the park.

The best vacation ever! That is our theme. We had the most memorable family vacation!! This resort is one of the best in the world. 5 star service, food, drinks and customer experience. The beach is one of the best in the world. No seaweed ever, nice little waves and turquoise blue water from heaven. Upgrade to privilege club is a no brainer. We got married and Andry our wedding planner was a super star!!! She did it all for my wife my son, and I. She made it the best experience ever. She deserves a promotion! The wedding by the beach was a dream! The champagne, the flowers and roses in our room after we finished was so emotional. The staff is beyond genuine & friendly. Lionel Lisett Melvin were awesome at the beach bar. Frozen cappuccinos were magical! Francisco Emmanuel Javier Julio were the best! Buffet is awesome. Fresh and tasty food. Crepes by the beach! Food truck burgers! Good entertainment, not too pushy, great shows, magic and Michael Jackson! Calm at the beach, tranquility and paradise. We will be back!! And everyone should book at Catalonia. Check in is standard ( our room we booked was only ready day 3 but all the rooms were great). And any minor issues are resolved immediately. We are easy going. WIFi is great and it goes far except close to water at beach. Thank you to the entire team!!

We just returned from spring break with 12 total people. 2 families and 2 couples. We travel to and have stayed in quite a few all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. This was one of the better vacations we have had! I honestly don't understand any of the bad reviews. Beach- The beach was fantastic! It's probably my top criteria when booking a resort. It was CLEAR and relatively calm. Just enough waves for the kids to enjoy. Very, very little seaweed while we were there. The swimming area was marked and the entire area was shallow enough for kids to play but deep enough for adults. There were lots of fish and easy snorkeling off the beach. There were plenty of beach loungers and a large area with permanent umbrellas for shade. Yes, people go out and save spots, I personally have never been to a resort where that didn't happen. There were plenty of spaces for everyone and as long as you got there before noon, you could get a pretty good spot with shade. There was a walkway to the beach and handicap spots. Rooms- We upgraded to deluxe privileged family room. It had bunk beds and 2 QUEEN size beds, most resorts only offer "double" (full) size. This is the main reason for upgrading. The shower was HUGE!! It had a shower head and rain head on each side! Plenty of hot water and everything was clean! No conditioner for those who wonder. Only shampoo and body soap. The rooms were pretty large with extra room and it had a nice patio area. Mini fridge with water, soda variety and beer. Housekeeping did a great job and we also had turndown service and they would refresh the room at night if needed!!! Food- I've had better, I've had worse. No one was ever hungry and found something they liked. We have 2 VERY picky eaters (one being an adult) and they were happy and enjoyed most everything. The main buffet was under remodel while we were there. We heard the rumor it burned, but we asked and they are just remodeling to make it larger. We ate breakfast and lunch at the main buffet and dinner at the dinner buffet in the middle of the resort. They also have a place to get crepes. They were good, my son got at least one a day. The coffee bar was nice for my husband and said the "leche, leche" were like drinking a coffee candy bar. You were able to get coffee from the buffet at breakfast, but when my husband tried ordering a coffee at dinner, it was only available at the coffee bar. The food truck was probably the most surprising. The hamburgers were really good and everyone raved about them. You could get fries and hotdogs as well. Staff- Everyone we encountered were extremely nice and helpful. Jose Manuel and Barbara who were part of the wait staff were AMAZING. Jose Manuel even set up tables for our entire group at dinner, before we got there, which was appreciated. He was great with our kids and it was nice to have an extra hand when he would help with their chairs when sitting. We were able to practice our Spanish with Barbara and she was able to practice her English with us. She was so sweet and we really enjoyed talking with her. Carlos, (I believe that is his name) who is the main MC for activities and the nightly shows, is hilarious. He was awesome with all the kids and once he learned my brothers name, called him out all week!! Its was fun!! Pretty sure he knew us all by the end of the week. I also saw a review saying staff were asking for tips. Not to say it doesn't happen, but I have NEVER had anyone ask for a tip or make me feel I should tip at any resort we have visited. We do tip to those we want to, but never have I felt I had to. Resort- Everything was very clean and there were people always cleaning, sweeping, etc. The grounds were maintained and we felt very safe. There was security always around somewhere. The pool was nice and one end had the bar and the other was shallow and gradually got deeper, which is perfect for smaller kids. It had multiple shops for souveniers, clothes, kids, and market. A few shops across the street from the main entrance and a few places just down the beach, but the walk was a bit difficult, but doable. On Friday morning, vendors came into the resort to sell. They were there until the evening and had a good variety of items. Plenty of things for the kids as well. They had giant chess, ping pong, swings, teeter totters, and a pool table that was at the coffee bar. Spanish was mainly spoken and very little English. Some of the printed information and even the app is not in English. We speak very little Spanish but managed just fine. All the employees at least made an effort if we didn't understand, so between all our efforts, it always worked out. If you have an issue with the staff not speaking English, you should probably go somewhere that English is the main spoken language and not go to the DR. There were only 2 cons for myself the entire week. There were people trying to get you to sign up for a timeshare meeting. I personally have zero interest and told them so. The first day, it was annoying, but after that, they knew we were not going, to they just told us good morning after that. They tell everyone that if you sign up for the 60 minute meeting, it will include breakfast, a coupon book and a free massage. Personally, I would rather pay for a massage, than sit through a timeshare meeting, but my parents and our friends did sign up. The entire meeting lasted 3 HOURS! Our friends did get the coupons and massage, but when my parents left, they were given a bag. They were told they only got a massage IF they purchased and that whomever told them different, shouldn't have. When she said our friends got a massage without purchasing, they accused my friend of lying to my mom! It was absurd. She eventually was given a massage coupon, but it was a hassle. Again, I would rather pay than deal with that. So beware. The second issue was that we had upgraded to "Privileged", mainly for the room, but it also included the entire beach area or so we were told. When we arrived, we were shown a map and told that we could pretty much go everywhere and that included the "Privileged" beach area. It is marked on their map, a large rectangle and it only says "Privileged". When we went to the beach there is a large section with umbrellas and different loungers that is marked "Exclusive". In that area, there is a smaller are marked "Privileged". It was very confusing since we were told we could go anywhere and no one ever mentioned "Exclusive" nor was it on the map. We asked again at the front desk and was told the same thing. When we asked about the "Exclusive" area, then we were told "oh, no, you can't go there"!! It also included the bar beside it that we were not able to use. In the end, it was fine, but if we had upgraded specifically for the use of the beach area, I would have been angry. It would just be easier on everyone if the grounds were for everyone and not divided up. Overall, we all enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone looking for a different option than staying in Punta Cana. The water was much calmer and less seaweed than we have experienced when in Punta Cana.

Second time here and won’t be coming back. The main buffet had burnt down and everything had turned into chaos. The food was cold and tasteless. Basics were lacking like no fresh pasta for the kids. Filth all around. We travelled with another 10 families and everyone in the group got sick with diarrhea. Their cleaning etiquette is absolutely disgusting. The tables, dishes and glasses were not properly cleaned and a stomach virus had spread like wildfire across the resort. The service is very bad. The staff at the restaurants needs training. No activities for the kids. Go some place else, don’t waste your time and money on this resort.
