Beautiful Beach, Beach Restaurant & Great Wifi - Privilege Price was not worth the upgrade
The rooms were recently modernized and were comfortable but small. The crepes on the beach was a nice touch. Beautiful beach but no Bali beds in the Privilege section and the music from the pool was loud and could be heard on the beach. Service at the restaurants was good but hard for gluten free and vegans. Dairy free milk was only at the buffet. The front desk check in was over an hour on Sat. there were alot of Dominican locals checking in for the weekend so we didn't stay Sat/Sun & sought other accommodations for these 2 days. Social distancing was adhered to and all staff wore face masks. Buffet was available with sanitation and plastic disposable gloves upon entry. If I didn't pay for the privilege services that were not available this rating would be higher - No beach towels, robes or slippers in room, no beer in mini bar until the 4th day, no 24 hr rm service (you had to ask for the menu and it took 2 days to get) with some very stringent ordering restrictions and hard to get ahold of - what is listed on the menu is sometimes not what you get, no welcome cocktail or gift basket, no water services at spa, no turndown service and no special restaurant for Privilege. Our fridge was broken and we asked for replacement but it was never done the scale didn't work but was replaced the next day. The grounds were well maintained and the pool was nice but music was too loud. The beach is definitely the selling point at this resort.

The hotel is very beautiful and the garden makes it feel like your not in a tropical beach resort. Overall we enjoyed our stay and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Check in and check out was super easy and fast. We were giving two updated double beds garden rooms that were clean and ready for our on arrival. There are a few things that could be approved and yes we understand we are there during a pandemic. But let start with the buffet we never waited more than 5-10 minutes to be seated with a group of 5 and staff made sure we sanitize our hands, checked our temperature, and was giving gloves to use at the Buffet. But 75% of the time food was lukewarm or cold and selection not so great! Also be prepared to sweat it out because the building is an open area and they never turn on the fans to circulate the air in the building. Next the bar staff are friendly but can get overwhelmed with everyone trying to get drinks and it can take a wait to place a order and there’s only one beer selection and that’s the national Presidente! The pool area is nice and with a lot ppl we never felt it was overly crowded. The beach area is beautiful and the blue clear water makes up for a lot and beach chairs and umbrellas were easy to get and enjoy. Well housekeeper only came once during our stay and we thought water bottle would be replenished on an daily basis but that wasn’t the case. Next time we know to call and request a housekeeper because after a day at the beach the room can get very sandy and makes for a uncomfortable night! But overall we would be back to visit next year and give it a second try!
Dear Guest, We would like to begin by thanking you for the valuable time you invested in sharing your comments with us. We are deeply sorry to hear that we were unable to meet your expectations. In this sense, we regret if our gastronomic offer did not live up to your expectations. Let us comment you that our Executive Chef is informed and will seek immediate action to improve the experience of our guests. Thank you very much for sharing your opinion about the minibar replenished , however we would have preferred to hear from you while you were staying, our Guest Service team is always available to attend to any concerns of our guests. We also assure you that all your observations were transmitted to those responsible in the department involved. We reiterate our apologies and really hope you give us another opportunity to welcome you so we can offer you an unforgettable experience. Warm Regards, Social Media Catalonia Gran Dominicus

    Very satisfied with this hotel
We, a family of three, were staying in Catalonia Gran Dominicus from November 20 till November 28. The rooms of this hotel are not updated but overall experience staying there is great. The food was very good. The beach is maintained. There are enough chairs for everyone. Our room was cleaned every single day by our cleaning lady, Tanya, and we feel that she really cares about us. Thank you Tanya. Staff from reception was always eager to help with any questions. Yveline, a representative from Guest Relations is far beyond her duties, very knowledgeable and professional really made our stay wonderful. Thank you Yveline. The ground is beautiful. Every single evening there are entertainment in the theater. Fresh juice, cocktails, snacks in bars on the beach. In addition to the buffet there are four restaurants to chose from but the reservation is requires one day before. Thank you all of you to make our vacation a paradise. We will definitely come back.

Staff and personnel excellent - as priviledge customer only benefits. Special sitting near the beach, fantastic pool, with poolbar, good food and specialities restorants. A good child friendly hotel, maybe not recommend for older people (65+) who likes to have a more quiter hotel.

Staff was AMAZING! All day food was delicious! The pool was huge and fresh each day. Big plus to have a deep end and a toddler section. Our family of 13 made amazing memories. The hospitality can not be beat. 100% recommend.

Camera guasta. I am at catalonia bayahibe since monday and I have a problem with my room since i arrived. The shower leaks, the drain doesn't work well, and the bathroom door doesn't close. After 3 days they fixed, quite bad, only shower. I'm sorry but I don't recommend it.

The food could be tastier and is often cold… and animation could be better. The creperie was not functioning well. Few crepe stations for so many people, 40 minutes waiting for a crepe… The beach, pool and bars are good and I am satisfied with the room (red bracelet).

The Excellent: the beach, by far is one of the best and there’s no sargassum in the area so absolutely perfect. We went snorkeling right off the shore and saw some amazing sea life. Also the bartender at Terrace - Leonel went above and beyond and deserves to be recognized. The Good: rooms were clean and spacious, the grounds are well kept. Entertainment was always available if wanted but also easy enough to get away from if needing peace and quiet. There was never a lack of loungers at the beach or the pool even though they claimed the hotel was full. Reservations were easy to make through the app and guest services (with some prodding) were able to schedule daily room service with coffee, milk for the baby, and some breads and fruits at the same time daily (setting it up this way made for prompt service). There were some servers who stood out: Heidi, Sylvia, Lisset, Candy, Jasson, and Guicsi. Food was good. It wasn’t excelllent but I don’t expect that from resorts. We were always able to find something to eat and sometimes we’re pleasantly surprised. I recommend the ossobucco at the Italian place and the goat dish at Yucca. The Mediocre: the minibar only had beer as a boozy option, no little bottles of alcohol. There was no service at the pool or the beach (had to go to the bar). The service in general in most restaurants was kind of slow with the exception of the staff mentioned in the section above. Tipping helped this but only to a point. AC went out in our room at one point but they did get it fixed by night time. The towel cards were not my favorite but they weren’t super militant about it like some resorts. It was hard to communicate with some folks when ordering because of the language barrier (my Spanish is quite mediocre and it could be my fault). The Bad: none of the dining options were indoors, meaning no AC. It was hot there and very tolerable doing beach and pool activities all day but after showering and getting dressed up it was very uncomfortable to have dinner because we were constantly sweating. The only place to escape the heat was our room or their shopping center. The Worst: having dinner at the Terrace restaurant was really problematic. The first time we tried we got seated and waited for about 30 minutes to have our order taken. We were hungry so we left and went to the buffet. The second time we tried we already knew what we wanted to order and said we were ready when we got seated. They took our order and brought the apps. Then we sat for 30 minutes after finishing the apps with empty dishes on our table and empty water and wine glasses. They didn’t come back with our main course or to refill our drinks. I asked someone there and seemingly had to place a new order. We eventually got food but it was like a 3 hour experience. Mostly not enjoyable. Overall I think the resort was quite nice but we won’t be coming back because of the lack of indoor dining, definitely not in July at least. Thanks for reading and safe travels!

Our flight was cancelled so Tui put us up in this hotel. There are 2 parts to this hotel - The swanky couples only part which is more 5 star and the family part which is definatly not swanky! We were in the family part and our room was on the second floor of a 2 storey building. The room was very dark with dark furniture and lighting was supplied by two bedside lamps and a standard lamp. One lamp wasn't working and second lamp went. I reported it to reception but they didn't fix it. We had a view of a hedge from our balcony. The bathroom had a large walk in shower that we rustic looking but OK. The toilet was hard to flush. The floor tiles leading to our rooms were very slippery when it rained, and uneven which created a trip hazzard. The pools and beach were lovely and a plus side for this resort The food in the main area was not nice and there wasn't much choice like our previous hotel. The restaurant was open and there were flies in the food and birds flying around and helping themselves to uneaten food on plates. The staff didn't attempt to swish then away. The food bars on the beach were really nice and we had a lovely burger and some lovely crepes . The staff on the whole were OK apart from a man on the reception area who rudely said 'oy get back here' to my daughters boyfriend. He needs some customer service training because you don't say that to people. The activity team were good and worked hard. We had a chance to see the inside of the adults only area and it was like a different hotel - modern and luxurious, unlike the tired, outdated, ill maintained family side. No I wouldn't return and I wouldn't recommend this hotel!

Our flight was cancelled due to plane having hydraulic failure. We were transferred from Punta Cana Airport. Rooms dark and dingy. Bathroom old and dated. Trip hazards everywhere. Buffet area disgusting. All the food is in the open with a roof over the top. All food uncovered. Birds freely fly in and help there self's to the food in the open food trays. Flys everywhere landing on the prepared food. Adults and children coughing over the food. Very basic food supplied Birds flying onto the dinning tables eating our food and messing on the tables. Flys constantly landing on you and the food your trying to eat. Bowl of melting butter with the dry breed & dry rolls. Rude staff porter said oy you get over hear clicking his fingers . Great customer service not. No baby changing facilities. This is not 5 stars. The other part of the hotel miles better which is we're we should have been sent. We paid for 5star all-inclusive. Bathroom sink doesn't drain. Tried adding pics not working

Very disappointed ! Used to go to DR twice a year from 2000 to 2010. Finally went back and don’t like my vacation stay at all! Hotel it self needs renovations, changed room because first room had horrible smell. Second room AC wasn’t working properly and after complaining a few times problem was not resolved. We were giving a fan. We don’t move again because we’re told to pack our bags and bring our bags to reception at 12:00 noon Then come back after 3:00 pm It’s our holidays and not packing and unpacking plans. So last few days we used a fan at list we could sleep at night under it. All day we were at the beach.

Reviews are misleading don’t understand how this hotel is rated so highly wouldn’t come back here again, have to book online dinner reservations which are always fully booked so ending up eating some thing every night, beaches are nice that’s about it, if you don’t speak spanish then get treated like an inconvenience honestly look elsewhere hotel shouldn’t be rated anywhere near what it is.
