5th time back at this resort so just going to write about the new things we have noticed.
We traveled with family in the beginning of November 2023. I have mentioned much in my previous reviews, so I'll focus this one on any changes we've noticed.
The food hasn’t changed much since last time, but the buffet does do a different theme night every day of the week. This time around we only did the Japanese restaurant twice because that is the one, we enjoy most. For the most part we ate at the dinner buffet. The desserts were something that stood out as they have improved their selection, variety, and taste. Overall food quality and variety was good and satisfied us.
We stayed in building 2 on the 2nd floor. All the construction in the resort is completed and all the rooms are refreshed. There are no more key cards, instead your wristband has a small key chip on it, which we found to be very convenient. Bathrooms in the rooms have a nice rainfall shower head feature.
The gym building has been moved away from near the beach and is now located at the front of the resort.
Out of all the shows at the theater, the Michael Jackson Tribute show was probably the best I have ever seen in a resort. The theater was also recently renovated.
They switched all the beach loungers out for new ones that are made from metal instead of plastic.
They removed one of the walkways on the beach and added more sand and space for extra lounge space. The beach was clean, the water was warm and calm the entire week.
We went on the Crazy wheels excursions that we booked right through the Iberostar Services thru Gouff Arsene. Every time he treats everyone like family and has the best prices and is knowledgeable about every excursion.
I say it every year, but the resort landscaping continues to be the center piece in my eyes. The amount of time spent keeping the landscape neat and clean here is amazing.
The flamingos are gone. There is a sign that says that they have been relocated back into their natural habitat. But there is plenty of other wildlife, peacocks, different type of ducks, koi fish, and turtles.

As always, I want to give a shout out to a few special people –

Fauri from the morning and lunch buffet. Fauri is someone we have known at this resort from our first visit. Such a sweet and pleasant person to be around. Always had a table ready for us and takes care of everyone like they are family. She even got my kids a small gift and my wife a pregnancy gift.

Estefany from the morning buffet – We meet her the last time on our trip, and she is very pleasant and wonderful.

Wanda from the dinner buffet – Every night she took great care of us. After a few days, when she would see us walk into the buffet, she would have the drinks on the table for us before we even got to the table. Another pleasure with a smile on her face.

Jesus - Lighthouse Bar – We also met Jesus the first time we came to Hacienda. Always has a smile on his face, always moving and making drinks. I have to say he is one of the best bartenders they have at this resort. Numerous I’ve asked him to make me something special and he comes up with drinks on the fly. The thing that we loved the most was how great he was with the kids, always had a cool drink to make for them to enjoy.

Alberto – Bell boy – another person that’s always smiling, from when you arrive to when you leave, he will mostly likely be the person you see.

Tony M – Tony is another person we have known since the first time we visited Hacienda and every time he has nothing but a smile on his face. He has moved up in the ranks but still takes time to stop and chat, make us a drink, or help us in any way. Another pleasure to deal with.

We have known some of them since the very first time we visited Iberostar Hacienda and it’s nice to see familiar faces and makes this resort feel like home every time. I tell my wife every time, coming here is a vacation but it also feels like you are coming home.
Till next time Iberostar!

My family and I travel every Thanksgiving. This year we chose the Dominican Republic in spite of the media hysteria. We have been to two other all-inclusive resorts in Panama and Jamaica. We stayed at RIU Resorts for each of those trips and RIU Resorts are nice facilities. However, the Iberostar Resort Hacienda Dominicus was a superior resort in all aspects and the food was exceptional. The staff was very accommodating, the check in process smooth, and the room was clean and ready for our arrival. We had a first floor poolside JR suite that had a large tile restroom with a walk-in shower and a king bed. The room was very clean with a modern flatscreen TV with channels in English and Spanish. Overall, a quality room with no real issues except a slow drain in the shower. The grounds are immaculate and continually maintained. Just a few tips for folks who are new to all-inclusive resorts to help make things a little easier. First, in the rooms at most resorts the air conditioning will not work unless all exterior doors are FULLY shut. Second, if you want a prime spot at the beach or pool you have to get up early and reserve your seats with your towels. Add a book or something that is easy for people to recognize as not belonging to them. I have never had someone take our seats once we saved them unless it was by mistake. Third, you have to trade your pool towel cards for towels. That’s just the way it works. Fourth, if you want to eat at the restaurants you have to make a reservation. If you want to eat early go make reservations early. Again that’s just how it works. Fifth, remember your on vacation. If you find yourself feeling anxious chill out. You are going to be surrounded by many people from all over the world who have different perspectives and different speeds for doing things. Relax and learn about those cultures and appreciate them for their differences. Lastly, use your resort map and ask staff for help. Take advantage of the amenities and book a trip off the resort. Take the time to educate yourself about the resort and don’t get upset and grumpy because you failed to pay attention to how things work and then act like an ass because you didn’t get what you want, the way you wanted it, when you wanted it. The staff work hard to accommodate a wide variety of people and will usually bend over backwards to help. Especially at the Hacienda Dominicus. This is a legitimate 5 star resort. We loved it, would absolutely come back, and probably will.

My girlfriend and I visited this hotel during the pandemic, in early March 2021. The hotel was maybe at 1/3 capacity, and as a result, some of the restaurants and bars were closed down. On the plus side, there was never any wait for anything, you could always find a great spot on the beach, and always could find a table at the buffet.

The hotel itself was very clean, and we appreciated Iberostar‘s commitment to reduce plastic and some other environmental features. The food was great! Everyone was really friendly. Our only problems came from communication. Very few staff were fluent in English, and I believe we missed out on some restaurant reservations because of this. It was hard to communicate with our concierge regarding covid testing and other arrangements you now have to make. I’ve traveled to Mexico many times, and it is much more easy to communicate over there. Most of the guests were European, so it was rare to have a conversation. The stress came from the uncertainty of whether we were in the right location for an activity, or had the correct time, and so on.

We tried to take some tours from outside vendors, but they were also limited in their offerings right now. When we mentioned we were taking an outside tour, that really seem to annoy one of the hotel tour arrangers. He lied about being able to see sea turtles with other companies (we did!) and lied about there not being an artificial reef at the beach (it’s right at the hotel, and is all along the roped border of the swimming area). We were also pressed to make an appointment with Iberostar reps for future vacations, and that was annoying.

Overall, we had a nice stay. We are glad we picked the Iberia star, the neighboring hotels seemed really crowded. Although the beaches are supposedly public, security guards will try to run you off of their beaches, even if the hotels are closed! I was able to walk along the beach for 45 minutes to get to the nearby national park, But whenever I stopped, someone would come out of the woods and tell me to keep moving on, until I finally made it to the park.

We were very pleased with our week long stay here. This was our first time visiting Bayahibe, we usually go to Punta Cana. The resort is truly a tropical paradise, we really enjoyed walking the grounds and seeing the wildlife. You almost feel like you’re in the jungle!
Our room (building 3) was clean and comfortable. The A/C didn’t run as cold as we are used to (we like it cold at night) but it was acceptable.
I feel like the housekeeping at this resort exceeded that of others we’ve stayed at…. Our room was literally spotless without a crease in the sheets every single day, and sometimes they surprised us with those little extra touches that just make your stay all the better!
We knew before hand that the pool bar was closed but this really does change the “vibe” at the pool. We honestly didn’t spend much time there because the beach is sooooo beautiful with fantastic service by Carlos! I will say this is the first resort we’ve ever been to where if you’re not out by 7am you will NOT have a chaise close to the water. It is a shame that most people do go down and take up chairs very early yet we would be there until probably 1 or 2 o’clock and still wouldn’t see the people that reserved the chairs. I didn’t like this but I’ve heard of it at other resorts as well. Other resorts we’ve been to have always had staff at the beach from 8am to assist with towels, chairs, umbrellas, etc. and we did miss this service as we wouldn’t see anyone until after 10 and that was Carlos for drink service. The beach is lovely with NO SEAWEED!
We found the food to be very satisfying with a nice selection and excellent service, especially our favorite server, Estefanie at the buffet. We only went to the Colonial, Japanese and Italian restaurants and they were all good with great service.
Our butler, Franklin was amazing. I had asked for mineral water in my mini bar and my husband mentioned that our fridge wasn’t very cold and by the time we got back to our room we had a new fridge stocked with mineral water! I was truly impressed with this as we’ve had a few less than spectacular butlers before (and yes we do tip well) but Franklin delivers!
I’d like to note that we were offered the time share and we declined and that was the end of it. No harassment or guilt tripping here. (We actually experienced this at another resort- begging us to attend so he could feed his family) So no need to worry about that part!
All in all we had a fabulous vacation and I would recommend this resort to others without hesitation.

Food, Service and activities are getting back to normal after very restrictive requirements imposed by the government to prevent the spread of COVID-19. At the Buffet, you can now make your own salad. You can serve yourself from the buffet. The chairs and tables are closer together. If this makes you afraid of getting sick, continue to hide in your basement but if you want to lay out on a very nice beach (that does not have sargassum), go on vacation here. They still require masks when you go to the buffet and all the staff must wear masks all the time. They still sanitize the tables after someone leaves and there is still hand sanitizer everywhere.

We had stayed here about 6 years ago and had an excellent vacation. We had a dinner at the gourmet restaurant (El Colonial) which we will always remember and were looking forward to again. Unfortunately, the menu has changed and instead of Lobster Thermodor, they had Shrimp Thermidor. The Surf and turf was not on the menu but there was a Hamburger. The presentation was lacking. It looked like they just put the food on a plate with no thought about appearance which we expect in a gourmet restaurant. We thought the food in the buffet was better, definitely a bigger selection, and the service was just as good. Special thanks to Angel at the breakfast Buffet. We actually cancelled a reservation to eat in the buffet. The snack bar had very good pizza, fruit bowls and salads and the lunch buffets were also very good.

There are enough people that they now have some shows. It also means the beach is somewhat crowded and in spite of the signs that say you cannot reserve Hammocks, most of the guests are Europeans and they are out before dawn to reserve the best chairs on the beach by putting their towels on them. They do the same around the pool. No one does anything about it. They also smoke wherever they want and think the world is their astray. Smoking, including Cigars, is apparently allowed in the Lobby bar so we just hold our breath, go to the bar, and get our drinks and leave. If the air was cleaner, we would stay for the live music.

The shows are back although very few people go to see them. The did have a very nice Circus Show around the pool one afternoon. Dressel International run the on site dive shop and they offer diving and excursions. If you book them directly with Dressel, you can save 20%.

They have a medical facility on the property that offers COVID testing almost any time. It was free for us but there may be a charge for other nationalities.

Overall, it was a very good vacation.

We stayed here 3 times in the past, the last time being in October 2019. This past February we decided to stay at the Iberostar Grand Hotel in Bavaro. We took a day trip back to The Hacienda Dominicus to see how the renovations looked and to say hi to some 'old friends' who worked there. We want to personally thank the I.H.D. assistant manager for providing us with a day pass. Upon our arrival and to my surprise, Francisco, who worked at the front desk remembered us from our October trip! He remembered that we were looking to upgrade our room to the ocean front suite! I was stunned that he even remembered the details. At the beach, Jan the bartender at the lighthouse also remembered us (and our son who traveled with us the last time) He is such a pleasant person, always smiling. One waiter on the beach also stopped us and remembered that we were there previously (he waited on us back in October). My only disappointment is that I did not see Wilkins, the omelette maker at the main buffet. He made the best omelette ever! (even better then omelettes made at the Grand) I wanted to say hi, unfortunately he was off that day. I couldn't believe that after seeing thousands of guests, some of the staff remembered us. These guys are great! I own a business in the USA and wish I could find employees with such memory and attentiveness!
As for the hotel the renovations, they were coming along nicely, what was finished looked spectacular. The beach restaurant is now open, the rotisserie chicken station they added is awesome! With regards to the food (variety and quantity), tropical feel of the grounds, quality of service from the staff and personal attention to detail, we have to say that in all these categories, Hacienda Dominicus exceeds that of the Grand Hotel, which is Iberostar's flagship property in the Dominican Republic.
Upon arriving back at the Grand, we went online the next day and booked that upgraded oceanfront room were looking at in building 7 back in October, we will be returning next October 10th! amigo's! ;)
and we cannot wait! Keep up the great work Hacienda Dominicus! we count the days until we return to our second home....we will see you all soon! :)

I went to this resort for the second time as I really liked it the first time. It didn’t disappoint me again. Staff is really friendly, food at the bar didn’t have as much selection as it did last time I visited it, but I assumed it was because the resort was at 30% capacity and having too much food would be a waste. The only suggestion I have is I wish that everybody at the buffet wore a gloves, cooks were touching the plates which I didn’t really like due to COVID. Resort provided a free COVID test 2 days prior to departure, which was good. Overall, we had a really good stay.

We spent 5 days of our honey-moon in this hotel.
The hotel itself is very beautiful, different kind of trees, flowers and birds.
On the other hand, the service is really bad. when we first got to the room the door didn't open using the two cards, we exchanged them with another pair of cards and they didn't work, it appeared that there was a problem in the door lock.
In the room, the safe didn't work, we had to wait for a technician to fix it, the bathroom light didn't work either, and there was no "clean my room" door hanger we got it only two days later.
In the second day of our stay we booked a place in the Mexican restaurant and Japanese restaurant (for the third and forth days) the worker Antony promised to send us the reciepts in one hour to our room, we haven't got it, in the next morning when we reached to the guest service again to get our reciepts it appeared that there were no reservations on our names, they offered us a place in a third restaurant instead, only after insisting to get our reservations back a manager called Manuel got envolved and solved the issue.

In the japanese restaurant there is no real japanese food :), what you get is a bad quality sushi as a starter, soup, rice with eegs, and some chicken, beef and vegetables cooked together with no spices, the food was terrible.

Lastly, before leaving we wanted to wash our clothes, we were told that it didn't happen because it should be taken before 12:00, we asked them if they can make an exception, we were told that they will send a housekeeper to our room, she/he didn't appear.

In addition, a lot of staff members constantly try to exploit and take advantage of the clients, they serve you information that you can get easily in the lobby and expect to be payed in return.

We were very dissappointed.

If you are reading these notes, you are interested in vacationing at the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus, which, I believe, is a good idea. I and my family are returning customers. The reason we return is a calm water sunset beach, a friendly atmosphere, and nicely kept premises. Then why not 5 points you may wonder. Next, I’d like to make a few suggestions to resort management in the hope that they will be addressed.

First, the resort must obey quite hours at least from 11 pm to 7 am. This must include the DISCO that tortures patrons with senseless ‘boom-boom’ well deep into the night, potentially through 2 am. This entertainment must be moved away from habitation buildings or shut down.

Second, when a family arrives and asks the front desk for quite accommodation, it shouldn’t be placed in building #1, which is just in front of the theater and is the noisiest place during the evening. I talked to a number of US-based families who asked for a quite room and ended up in building #1 for their first night. Do you believe in such coincidences, I don’t.

The resort undertakes a renovation. Currently, building #7 is shut down for construction. This activity doesn’t affect patrons much unless you use the main pool or stay in the neighboring building #6. Because the renovation advances slow, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it lasting into the next winter season.

We just returned from the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus, after 10 wonderful days there, this was our 6th time at this resort. We waited a long time for them to reopen from the Covid shutdown.... The wait was well worth it! We experienced all the same things we have grown to love about this property... Great food, wonderful surroundings and awesome staff. Front desk , Jhonny was great. Jose at Prestige club was absolutely the best! It was good to see all of the long time employees we see year after year there as well... Wilken has worked in the Buffet for years and he still makes the best Omelets in the world, I have been to Dreams Dominicus, Iberostar Grand Bavaro and Iberostar Bavaro, his cooking simply beats all of them, they don't even come close! I hope IHD keeps him employed for many years to come. Oscar, one of the head chiefs did a great job and always said hello to me with a smile. Deivy ( my Dominican brother :) ) was a great waiter always joking with us despite working very long hours. He always knew what drinks we needed in the morning and evening and made sure that they were always on our table. Jan the beach bartender was spectacular and is a wonderful human being. He has worked there for many years and remembers us every time we return, he is a true friend to us. MamaJuaja was awesome as usual with the beach entertainment.
Due to Federal regulations we had to do a Covid-19 test prior to departure and Iberostar paid for the testing. That was a nice touch and we appreciated it. The entire stay we felt safe and the Hotel went out of their way to keep up cleanliness and social distancing. All food was served to you at the buffet. For safety reasons, you were not allowed to touch it or serve yourself.
It was very difficult for my wife and I to leave, You know it was a truly amazing vacation when you feel so sad that you have to go. We will be back again next October!

Building 4 that overlooks the pool and closest to the beach, there is no oceanfront rooms.

Sorry for the late response as I don't use this site that much other than to leave reviews. The Bayahibe property is amazing. If i had go go back, I would request building 4 as it is closest to the ocean and just a short walk to the pool. I don't believe there is a service difference based on your room selection. We stayed at the Iberostar Lindo BEFORE we were club members and still received outstanding service throughout our stay. This is the Iberostar service culture. We make it a point to get to know our maid staff, bartenders, concierges, etc. I think that goes a long way.

I would bring your own water container to fill at the water stations and then carry it with you. They have self-serve iced water at the pool bar. It's typically flavored with fresh fruit or herbs.

"If you plan to visit Saona Island, use the hotels excursion service, not the one soliciting by the pool. A few extra $$ but well worth it."
