Staff very unfriendly especially in the morning. We had issues with a/c hot water and no water at all. Very expensive for what they offer ( just the room). Location is good close to atm and restaurants.

We booked this for a week, whilst we went diving in Bayahibe The hotel is quiet, room very big and clean, everyone is friendly and I personally loved the breakfast with the locals... there is a small bar at hotel and they serve a basic European breakfast (haven’t tried) or a local one- which my partner had every day. Great if you want to take a break from usual. The pool area sunbathing beds and pillows would probably benefit from some clean up, so we preferred the chairs when we chilled. Beach is 10 min walk. Is actually very close but need to walk around the big Viva hotel complex. The restaurant Kuki & Cece is also very good and we had dinner a few times there. A good option if you prefer low key but clean and safe and not the big all inclusive

This turned out to be a really pleasant surprise. We stayed here a day before we could check in to our time share. It was clean, great little pool, and great restaurant attached to our place. Would stay again, instead of timeshares, best price for what you get.

This hotel is located in Dominicus, a subsection of Bayahibe. It is dominated by all inclusive hotels and a lot of the street life in Dominicus is set up to get to people to venture out of their all inclusives. But none of this is found at Cabana Elke. It is a laid back, easy going place that however is very clean. The rooms are practical but with good air conditioning and a good shower with nice hot water. There is a little balcony in front of the room where one can hang cloths to dry. The rooms open to a pool area with a clean, refreshing pool and nice beach chairs/recliners. The rooms are very quiet, something that the all-inclusives do not necessarily offer. The breakfast area is small and in the open air. If you like yoghurt and granola you have to buy it in a store about 5 min walk. But you get great local fruit and strong local coffee! Another plus is the restaurant next door - well, actually under the same roof. I'll write about that separately. Walk to the beach is about 7, 8 minutes. Some Spanish is helpful but the owner speaks OK English. There is a small parking area, if you come by car. The hotel accepts credit cards!

I was very happy we chose this place in Bayahibe. It was very comfortable- good bed, good ac, and lots of space. The pool is nice and the garden very pretty. I was wishing I could find a place right at the beach, but the walk was very short- 5 minutes or a bit more- and through an interesting area, so a very nice walk every day. It was quiet in this area but close to restaurants and shops so perfect. I would not want to have chosen the main part of Bayahibe because it is way noisier and the beach is not as nice. The public beach there is very beautiful, though small, and we rented a couple of chairs and a couple of umbrellas for a day for around 15 I think, though it varied. The restaurant is separate from the hotel I believe, and it serves very good Italian food. The family who run the restaurant are the nicest people! Very kind and helpful and they gave us some extra treats at Christmas. A lovely place to hang out in the evening. Check out the corner store on the way to the beach- at the intersection- it is the place to hang out in the evening with local guys to watch the baseball on the big tv and have drinks- or you can dance in the store at times- quite a party. Also check out Tracadero Beach Club- for around 23 pp you can spend a day in paradise, with lots of beautiful pools and a good snorkeling spot in the ocean- you can order drinks and snacks and also eat in the fancy restaurant if you want. Cabanas Elke provides free bikes to use. There is no free breakfast, but the breakfast bar has cheap food to order. The Dominican breakfast is the best in my opinion, but it's big. They were very flexible in providing for special diets, as was the Italian evening restaurant, (gluten free pasta available) and several of us had eggs with yucca as a yummy breakfast. When we checked into Cabanas Elke, one room was very smoky. We were immediately offered another room. The only other issue was that there was some noise from other hotel dwellers at times, especially one upstairs group who were partiers. (You can hear upstairs guests a fair bit downstairs, only a problem if you happen to hit party people.)
