Dreams Dominicus La Romana has garnered mixed reviews from guests, with many praising its stunning beachfront location and the variety of amenities available, including the Preferred Club upgrades. While the rooms are generally spacious, some travelers have pointed out cleanliness and maintenance concerns, as well as outdated decor.
The service staff is often commended for their professionalism, yet some guests have faced slow and inconsistent service. Despite the lively atmosphere and entertainment options, the value proposition is questioned by guests who have experienced aggressive upselling and unexpected additional costs.

Detailed Reviews
Overall we had a great experience at the hotel. We travelled with family so in all there were 16 of us in the group and 8 kids 10 and under.
The resort is incredibly clean and well maintained and we found the food in the buffet to provide enough selection for even some of our picky young eaters. There isn't a great variation from day to day however. We did struggle with getting coffee and water at the table at times, and some days we gave up and just got drinks elsewhere after eating (The Coco Cafe is amazing!!!). We also had trouble getting seated together when trying to eat in the buffet as a group which was annoying, as there were always lots of tables available that could quickly be pushed together which is what we usually ended up doing on our own.
We didn't feel the resort felt overly crowded and we liked the size and availability of beach towels. The beach area as mentioned in other reviews is crowded and fairly narrow for the size of the resort. You have to be there early to get chairs and shade is hard to come by, however the beach and ocean itself is beautiful.
We thought the pool side entertainment was some of the best we have experienced...we especially enjoyed the pool inflatables! The night entertainment was ok, but for sure the circus night was a definite highlight.
All of the personnel were incredibly friendly, although we did experience a lot of frustrations with the language barrier.
Disappointments include the kids club (explorers). While the personnel are absolutely fantastic they don't seem to have any activities geared to the 6-10 year old range. Our kids were really looking forward to the kids club similar to experiences at other resorts but were really disappointed. For one of the kids night activities (fashion show) the boys were excluded and told they couldn't participate on stage which was hard to explain to a 4 year old when his other cousins/siblings were participating.
Service at check in was horrendous. We had requested several times prior to trip that we have rooms close together for our group. They didn't even try to accomodate, and the 'best' they could do to have all of us even in the same building (and not even on the same floor) was one family of 4 in a room with 1 King Bed. Thankfully they brought in a cot as requested the next day, but it was definitely less than ideal and the only thing they could offer was a room with 2 double beds in a different building. Keep in mind this wasn't a last minute booking, it had been booked 5 months in advance with reservations for all rooms as 2 double beds and repeated requests for rooms close together.
Service at a la carte restaurants was terrible. Food was ok and they tried, but on 3 nights that we ate at an a la carte, all 3 nights 1 or 2 of our guests never received part of their meal or we were constantly having to return dishes that were not what was ordered. So disorganized. It didn't feel like fine dining at all, and we gave up and stuck to the buffet the rest of the days.
All in all it was a great trip had by everyone in our group. Definitely not 5 star, but a very nice resort with some great people working there!

We just returned from a week at Dreams Dominicus La Romana, our first trip to the DR, and our first travel experience during covid. First, the travel: we traveled with friends who were flying from a different location, so we met them in Charlotte (flying American). Flights were easy, not full, all masked. Upon arrival in Punta Cana, we boarded our Hello Tours van for the 50 minute ride to La Romana and Dreams. Highly recommend Hello Tours; best price, super clean, great driver. Now the good part, the resort! Dreams is only 3 years old, and is just beautiful. They took their covid protocols very seriously; our two rooms were immaculate and we never saw any staff member unmasked...right down to the exercise instructor in the pool! We were completely comfortable during our stay in that regard. There are pools running down the center of the resorts that we saw being cleaned every morning, and the whole place is beautifully maintained. We had a Preferred Club suite, which gave us access to a concierge (Mercedes) who took care of making sure we were spoiled, and Kenia, the PC manager was awesome as well. Special mention goes to Carmen and Michelle, our massage therapists, who were fantastic. Great service was everywhere, the Preferred Club, World Cafe, and the specialty restaurants, Bordeaux and Portofino.
Are there negatives? Yes, but small ones, mostly to do with food. We enjoyed breakfast at the Preferred Club, but having to wait while the waiter ran to the coffee shop for coffee was just silly. They need to have a coffee machine there. We had a “special lobster dinner” that was great except for the lobster itself, which was over cooked to inedibility. However, when reported the resort went out of their way to make amends.
We had a wonderful, relaxing time, and will most certainly return!

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.
We were a group of 12, 3 families with elementary aged kids. Unfortunately half of our trip overlapped with Spring break and it became too crowded for our taste. The service was also a lot better with fewer people at the resort. All staff wears masks and they encourage all tourists to use face coverings when not at the pool or at the beach. Masks are required in indoor and ourdoor restaurants. Locals are very relaxed when it comes to time... prepare to wait for your orders in restaurants.
Pros: great beach, good food, beautiful resort, cute cafe open 24/day, very good services during off peak season. Property is cleaned and disinfected thoroughly throughout the day.
Cons: preferred club access costs extra $$, but it is not monitored by staff, so non- preferred club people can easily access preferred club restaurants and beach area, which created an overcrowding problem with when more vacationers moved in for Spring break. Our room was not cleaned by 3pm on most days, which was the time it would get very hot and we would be ready to come to the room and relax before dinner.
Make sure to be assertive with staff when booking your COVID test before departure. Ours was schedule for the day before departure and we had to insisted that they reschedule it to the previous day. We got our results at 9:30pm and we were leaving the resort at 9am the following morning.
The best place for breakfast and lunch is preferred club “Flying Fish” restaurant and make sure you ask for Eddy. He is the best waiter I have ever met in my life! He will make you feel like a you are the only customer in the restaurant.

My husband and I celebrated our honeymoon with another couple who also stayed at the resort, so we have a bit more perspective regarding the resort.
The Pros: The best part of this resort was the employees - Geraldo at the Marlin Bar (preferred only) and Yeralki the bartender/server at the middle pool made the experience for us. On our last day, Yeralki made us an amazing frozen passionfruit drink that was delicious; each day he remembered us and what we would like, even if it was water. Geraldo did an amazing job making our drinks just like we were at home! Without these two our experience would not have been the same. Unlike many other reviews, we enjoyed the food that we were able to get at the resort. However, I would not recommend the main buffet. If you are looking for better food, you must upgrade to preferred so that you have access to the preferred beach bar. We went there for most meals. At this resort, we did not have much trouble finding a place to sit by the pool or beach (preferred) which was great. Another amazing perk of this resort is NO WRISTBANDS - not sure we will ever be able to go back to a wristband required resort!
The cons: Towels were hard to find if you didn't get the right away in the morning, easier access to towel if you are preferred. Lunch doesn't start until 12:30pm and only the preferred beach bar and main buffet are open for lunch. Between 2:30ish PM and 6PM food is impossible to find and the room service menu is very short with no snacking options. The housekeeping came for us while we were at the pool or beach during the day, but didn't make it to our friends' room until after we got back and needed to shower. I found that the rooms were a little rough looking and the location of our room was loud at night due to the entertainment taking place at night, but usually ended by 10:30PM.

What they are doing well. No bracelets and open/included wi fi. Also, no charges for safe box. And it was great that you did not have to make any reservations. Kudoos to Dreams for these. Room was nicely decorated and amenities were all there. There were plenty of sun beds around the many pools so you always found a place. The gym was really nice and when I went, it was almost empty. Very clean. The hostesses for the French, Italian and Asian restaurant were all very nice. Dioshanny from the French restaurant and Marisgold from the Asian restaurant provided excellent service. At the French restaurant everyone from Maitre D to busboy were excellent. The coffee shop was very nice and so was the bar next to reception or in the quiet pool.
What did not work well. Food quality is extremely poor even for breakfast. Buffets most of the time are not great but the issue here was that the food quality was low and the cooking was really poor. We tried the Italian restaurant and it was not a good experience. Asian was better and French was ok.
No lifts and our room was quite far from the restaurants/beach.
Brands were available (e.g. Malibu, Tanqueray) were available at certain bars but not at the pool or beach bar where only the cheap brands were available. The music at the disco was loud to the point that was above healthy levels (happy to provide picture) as it was empty and noise was not being absorbed. Despite asking staff to lower it, they kept putting it high (but they were in the booth so did not hurt them).
They cancelled activities to put others in place. As I heard another guest saying, they lack discipline. They steam iron in the room ( a great thought) leaked non stop and got my husband's shirt stained. Volleyball court got constantly removed for events and aqua gym was cancelled twice in the 4 days I was there so it was pretty dreadful. Shows were at 9:15 so we missed all of them as we were still at dinner when these happened. There was this very rude vibe going from staff which we heard it was because management changed their hours/off days two days before our arrival. With the exception of a few people and the cleaning crew, the rest, especially the bar and wait staff were constantly rude with a bad face, complaining to co workers, looking at you at the bar and not asking you what you wanted. I felt for them as I'm sure it is not nice to be pressured to over work with that said, I thought Management did not hire the required staff to mitigate the amount of work and this caused stress on our holiday hence why it's unlikely we will return to another Dreams. For the amount of money you pay, these type of issues should not be part of your holiday.

+1
We just returned from a fantastic vacation at Dreams Dominica La Romana. The staff was fantastic; from Samuel, our bell hop, who greeted us and took us to our room and then helped us to seamlessly switch rooms when we were inadvertently given a double bed rather than the king size we had reserved. Kim in Preferred Guest Services upgraded us to a beautiful suite, and we were surprised to learn we were assigned our own Butler; Edward. He was efficient and extremely helpful to coordinate our covid test and other things we needed assistance with during our stay. The entire staff was extremely friendly, especially Marleni who was our hostess each morning and most evenings to our excellent waiters Ramon, Keori and Eddy. Keori even shared his recipe for Salcocho And gave me his Instagram address so I can face time with his mom when I cook it. We felt safe leaving all of our belongings on the beach at any time thanks to Edwin the security guard who walked along the beach. Everyone was super friendly and very willing to speak Spanish with us, though we are far from fluent. The property was on incredible beach with the an amazing shoreline of super soft sand and gorgeous turquoise and blue water. It was all inclusive and due to covid precautions, we were served by the staff at each buffet rather than have the guests touch the food/ utensils. The food was very good at each restaurant we tried and there were excellent covid precautions in place everywhere we went including hand sanitizer and temputature checks to enter into any of the restaurants or stores. Masks were required inside unless we were eating or drinking,
They had different entertainment pop ups during the day and excellent shows with dancers each evening all included in the package price. We had a blast on the catamaran and kayak, and drank fresh coconut on the beach. I treated myself to a an excellent Cacao salt exfoliating then deep tissue massage by Kim, and then had access to steam room and Jacuzzi within the spa. They even allowed my boyfriend to join me at the spa after my massage.
I would definitely recommend this resort and would absolutely return to it without hesitation!

LAST minute booking didn't disappoint ..Our room was a Preferred Club had a partial sea view overlooking the coco cafe clean spacious quite newly decorated I think. Grey walls crisp white bed linen, 2 double beds which was both comfy with good pillows so we all slept very well for 14 nights
Our favourite restaurant was the Flying fish with about 15-20 tables in the Preferred family area it was never more than half-full. All the staff was extremely friendly and made us feel very well welcome nothing was too much bother for them.
Preferred beach club is always busy but you can usually find a couple of beds after lunch. Bars great. Bottles of Bud and Coors light. Luisa customer service & waitressing at breakfast and lunch was fantastic
Kids Club
This is the first time I have ever put out daughter into Kids club whilst we have been away and I have to say I was worried sick when she asked to go and have a look. However, after she spent a morning in none of us looked back. My daughter absolutely loved it so much so she was asking to go in every second of the day!!!! Every day she would have her face painted, hair done and come out with paintings and drawings. In the evening, the Kids Club put entertainment on, we didn’t go often but the nights we did go my daughter loved it. I do want to thank all the ladies in the kids club (Ana, Yafre, Nati & Yague) you are doing a great job!
So would we go back???? Absolutely YES!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Dreams for another great holiday x

+1
My fiancé and I traveled to Dreams Dominicus Resort in La Romana, Dominican Republic, in the beginning on February for our wedding! We brought along 50 of our closet family and friends. We stayed 9 days and it was a week we will not forget! The resort could not have been more welcoming upon arrival. We were handed a glass of champagne and a cold towel and were escorted to check-in.
We booked the Honeymoon Suite and were preferred status. So we were able to go to extra restaurants and extra amenities than non-preferred. Our room was gorgeous! Two sinks, huge closet and shower, great big balcony with a tub, lounge chairs and hammock and best of all it overlooked the main pool and beach. They always cleaned our room well and left us rose petals, champagne and chocolates or bath towels animals.
The staff was amazing all week! Got to know us very quickly and made sure to say hi all the time and help us with anything we needed! I will include our favorite people at the bottom.
Our wedding was at the beach gazebo and it was a wonderful set up! Then we had a cocktail hour and reception at one of the restaurants. Our guests had such a fun time! The coordinators there did an awesome job with everything.
Food overall was very good. Even the picky eaters found things they liked. Small portions in some of the restaurants but you can always just go grab more food somewhere else..perks of an all-inclusive! Room service was yummy and convenient. Beach was so beautiful and no seaweed. Plenty of chairs to go around. Activities going on all day and night.
Mercedes was our butler we got assigned when we checked in. She was amazing! We would text back and forth and she was always checking on us and making sure we were happy. Made dinner reservations for us.
Indhira was our wedding coordinator. I had been exchanging emails with her months before we arrived. Planning was all organized and then we met in person when I arrived and everything was set exactly how we discussed! I put my trust in her and she did the perfect job! Everything ran smoothly, set up beautifully and she checked in with me the whole wedding day.
Wandy was the spa guy. He was the friendliest man ever! He met us and the next time we saw him out and about he knew our names and knew our family and friends. He booked our private lobster dinner out on the pier. Delicious and romantic night!
Dennis was the bellboy. Super great dude who was always happy and welcoming. Helped us with our bags to and from along with our family and friends. if we passed through the lobby he always was smiling at us.
We have a couple free anniversary nights and we would go back in a heart beat!

We enjoyed our time (7 days) at Dreams Dominicus. We had several of the staff that stood out as excellent. Elwin Salvavida, the lifeguard/first aid, took very good care of my husband when he lost his big toenail in the ocean by running into a rock. Every day he checked on him, disinfected and wrapped the toe with precision. Edwin Seguridad, on the beach, greeted each and every day with a smile for all the preferred members. Edwin took extra care when we requested a bed on the beach and made it happen! Syndi and the other servers at the preferred bar by the beach were amazing. By day three, they knew what and how we preferred our drinks.
One complaint, albeit small, is that preferred in other resorts usually describes a place WITHOUT kids. The preferred beach and restaurants were littered with small children. I have 6 of my own and understand the value of them, but prefer to vacation without all the noise. The French restaurant was literally the only place to go where the patrons were ADULTS only. This was not clearly stated in the literature. A clarification for future guests would be a good idea.

Hi
In certain restaurants yes think it is the french one and one of the privelige ones.
Call Hyatt in US
They will give the email and maybe connect you.
It's some local product. I am sure if you want something better, you can always get it for a price.
The Preferred rooms are in all areas of the hotel. I believe the area across the road is mainly family rooms. We loved the Flying Fish restaurant in this area for breakfast and lunch. Only preferred guests can use this restaurant.
