We planned a four night stay in the beautiful island of Mykonos. After a lengthy investigation and review reading we settled on Hermes Hotel - It’s in the town, short walk to the seaside, beautiful views and very good reviews. We really didn’t know what to expect. The surprises started when the hotel contacted us to make sure they know how and when we are arriving to pick us up from the airport. And that was just the beginning. The staff was very friendly and hospitable. Particularly Anna Riga at the reception. We referred to her as our “angel in Mykonos” as she patiently listened to us and made sure we were content and felt “at home”. The rooms are clean and very functional with balconies and sea views. Actually, the pictures on the hotel website do not do justice to what you the reality you encounter. All the rooms have Wi-Fi access, albeit a bit slow - in line with the island’s standards. The breakfast dining room, as every other facility, has beautiful sea views and an outdoor terrace for the interested. Unlike in a typical hotel, the breakfast menu is diversified and you can order various dishes as if you were in a restaurant. Cappuccino, Espresso, Americano, Shakshuka eggs, Florentine egg souffle - just ask. George Trandafitiois, the “breakfast master” is quick attentive and very friendly. So is Manos “the best” bartender... This family owned hotel is run by a husband/wife team - Vangelis Santorinaios and Antonia Kontiza.. They do a fabulous job at running and maintaining this place. Their attention to customers satisfaction adds an special dimension to how people feel there. I always maintain that over time you rarely remember the details of a place. Memory is tricky but you remember how you felt being there. For us it will always be “our home” in Mykonos, with angels looking over us.

We loved the hotel. The room is really comfortable and you will have the best sunset view right in your balcony! The breakfast is also great with many options and also a great view. Friendly staff. Close to Chora and many restaurants.

For the inexperienced Mykonos traveller this may seem a great hotel but being a frequent visitor to the island the Hermes was disappointing. The main issue was the lack of hospitality, professionalism and the typical aloofness of these family-owned hotels in Mykonos. It’s quite astonishing how they have received so many completely positive reviews, suspicious almost. The hotel itself if not all bad, but when you charge a premium you have to deliver premium service, this is simply not the case. Our standard room was nice, clean and comfortable but very close to reception so you could hear everything that was going on in the hall outside. Reception staff were just ok but that was it. Going above and beyond is certainly not their practice. The quality and options available in the beautiful breakfast room are very good, the service is another story. Giorgios who seems to be the ‘supervisor’ has an awful way of managing his staff. Knowing Greek we knew exactly what was going on. I hated watching him treat his staff so badly, so regularly. One morning one of the girl waitress even started to cry because he was being so rude to her, and I really don’t believe that you needed to know Greek to see what was going on there. Unfortunately Girogios also ‘works’ the Pool bar where you can forget to receive a complimentary glass of water after you arrive from the beach, drinks are served in old, over worn glass ware and cheap plastic trays and every menu comes in dirty laminated hand outs. Pool and views are nice but it is quite noisy, as you are surrounded by the main road, but as we expected that to be the case, it wasn’t the main issue. The pool had zero atmosphere and in almost a week I have never seen Giorgios or the other guy actually walking around and asking guests if they needed something. I had to walk up to them to order drinks, every time, he seemed too busy recovering from his breakfast shift and was more interested in checking his phone. Quite disappointing. Don't recommend this hotel.
