We were visiting family for the weekend. Adequate accommodation , clean room and fresh linen. Mattress a little hard. Bathroom dated, electric shower with no power to speak of. Breakfast was well presented, good bacon, but, as is often the case, the sausages were bland and tasteless. I wish more hotels/B&B's would buy their meat from local butchers, who make...

To me the main asset of this hotel is the friendly obliging staff, you really did fell welcome. Evening menu was varied and reasonably priced and breakfast was excellent. Rooms are OK for the price of the hotel and reasonably appointed.

Stayed here with a group of friends. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating. We had a family room of the top floor which was very interesting with its slightly uneven floors that made you feel you were walking downwards to bed. It was a noverlty but not a surprise as the building is very old but well maintained. We...

Great place to stay. Rooms simple but bed comfortable. Tea/coffee available in room. Separate fan if too cold. Short walking distance from shops. Staff very friendly and polite. Ample car parking at side of Lodge. Would definitely recommend to anyone traveling to the town and will hopefully visit there again.

Stayed 3 nights while walking Llangollen canal. It is fairly small and quite basic, but comfortable, clean and breakfast very good. It has a large free car park, is within 10 mins walk from rail station and there is a bus stop at the front door, but the centre is 5 minute walk. Would certainly consider 'Doddy' again and could...

Hi Iain Thank you for your kind review we are glad you had a pleasant stay with us at 'The Doddy' and more importantly enjoyed your walk's along the Llangollen canal, which we have to confess that we sometimes take for granted being on our door step! We hope that we will see you again soon.

Hotel was fine for a night but we suffered as it was very hot and a bit airless and had to sleep under a sheet. Apart from that the room had all that we would have expected although it was a little bit tired which could be applied to the hotel in general. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful....

Hi Tim, Thank you for your kind review; we do provide fans in each room to try increase the air circulation, but for an old listed building it is very well insulated which does make it warm when the sun makes a rare appearance. Not sure which room you stayed in, but in the last 6/8 weeks, one room has...

We stayed at The Dodington Lodge for one night midweek, when we came to Whitchurch for a golf event. When we arrived to check in, there was no-one at Reception, so we looked in the bar and found a very helpful, friendly young man who sorted everything out. Over the next few hours, we saw rather a lot of him;...

Hi Phil, Thank you for your lovely review, can I just say that I hope it was the floor that was creaky and not the bed; the bed's in room's 8 & 10 (the ones that can sleep 3) we had new in December last year so they should not be creaky. But the floors on the top floor are...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Dodington Lodge is a friendly family run small hotel located on the outskirts of the market town of Whitchurch. The Hotel was originally built as a private residence and such is not a purpose built hotel. We have 10 very different shaped rooms; some are small like our compact double room 6, while others are extremely large like our deluxe room 1. Given the age of the building and its listed status many of the walls and ceilings and in some rooms the floors are a little uneven. All rooms are en-suite and include Refreshment facilities and Free view TV as standard, with free Wi-Fi available in the Public Areas and most bedrooms. The hotel is ideally placed for exploring the Shropshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire countryside. Manchester Airport is our nearest at 1 Hour away. The Roman towns of Chester and Shrewsbury (Wroxoter) are only a day’s march away (or about 30 minutes drive). If you like walking The Sandstone Trail begins (or ends) in the Whitchurch Jubilee Park, which is located a few minutes’ walk away from the hotel. ... more   less
