A converted school and headmasters house makes for an unusual pub, restaurant and accommodation. Built in the mid 1800's it has been thoughtfully converted and makes such a change from the modern, soulless hotels that abound throughout the UK. Good atmosphere in the pub and an excellent menu, Really dog friendly place to stay and eat. We stayed in a... More

We have visited her many times after a recommendation from a car club we are members of. What a find!! Everything here is first class.. the food is amazing and the selection of gins is off the planet. From the moment you walk in you just know that you are going to have a fantastic time. Without exception all the... More

Stayed for one evening with my dog, both of us made to feel very welcome. Staff were exceptional and so was the food. A nice area to walk the dog in and around the castle grounds and a great place to relax after. When something is described as "legendary" on the menu it's difficult to go past that and choose... Having discovered the Chum on a previous visit to Cheshire and eaten there, we were looking for an excuse to stay there as we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. A trip to the Midland Game Fair afforded the perfect opportunity and we weren't disappointed. A lovely room ( Mr Bird ), a super welcome and great food. All 4 of us... More

The service was friendly and attentive. Hubby had the steak and kidney pie and enjoyed it..lots of chips, golden and crispy, and not so mushy peas. The pie was spectacularly high. I had the blue cheese, almond and asparagus tart. First bite had lots of blue cheese flavour but I didn't detect much in the rest. The crust was on... More

Visited here after doing an event. Love the decor, staff super friendly and helpful and the food was out of this world! They didn't have a children's menu but they did tell us straight away what they offered for a child and it was still a great choice. Overall fantastic experience with food, service and general look of the place!... More

Not many places with good grub make your dog as welcome as you, but The Cholmondeley Arms is one of them. Great food, great Gin and very friendly staff make it our must stop lunch destination when heading up or down the A49.

We arrived at the Cholmondeley Arms with quite high expectations after it being recommended by someone from work. Earlier in the day we rang to reserve a table as it is located about 50 minutes away from home. The kind young man took our reservation with no problem. However half way there we realised we were going to be considerably... More

Having read the many reviews, most of them very praiseworthy of this establishment,i was quite surprised at the lack of comfort and the Dickensian feel of the place. Hard backed chairs, scrubbed table tops ,uncovered floors etc. The meal I ordered ,that of Roast Rump of Lamb ,quite the most expensive on the menu was hardly cooked through, with greens one... Really enjoyed my meal at cholmondley. The whole menu looked superb. Great for value and it wouldn't cost the earth to have a three course meal. The bar area and restaurant itself have undergone a complete overhaul since last I went and it feels fresh but still true to its old school-house roots. I'll be going back very soon.
