Always a treat to be returning to the Riu Paraiso Lanzarote Resort, even during this pandemic of Covid-19. The hotel and staff did not disappoint. Covid-19 safe in all areas and was definitely being actively promoted to wear your face masks, antibac etc. The only gripe this time, was the lack of sunbeds around the pool and people getting up at 5am to go and secure the beds, so by the time anyone was up at 8am they were all gone. Cross words were heard around the pool on most days, upset and very disappointed holiday makers. Used to be a 'NO SUNBED RESERVING POLICY'. Seems the management were aware of this and took no notice. Need to remove some of the grassed areas around the pool and extend the concrete area to allow for more sun beds to accommodate the holiday makers at the hotel. Staff at the pool bar were very under staffed and it showed with some being grumpy. Other than that. A fab holiday with glorious weather.

Upon entering our room, it was clear our room had not been updated for over 15 years. There was minimal lighting in the room with a light switch which was temperamental meaning the hallway light intermittently worked. The bed was extremely hard and very thin, I will now have to see a chiropractor after trying to sleep on the bed for 6 nights with only one pillow provided. When we requested another pillow (a very simple request) we were told we would not be able to get an extra pillow until the following day.
When we arrived to the hotel on the evening, we went down to the restaurant for an evening meal, to only find the chicken was still raw and the vegetables had not seen the hot water. This poor experience then set the tone for the rest of the week, meaning we had to eat out every evening over the fear of having food poisoning. We did raise this but nobody seemed to be interested in our concerns.
The following morning we went down to the pool area, only to find out you needed to be up at 5am to even manage to get a sun bed. We raised this with the receptionist team who told us they could not have the full capacity of sun beds due to the COVID-19 restrictions, however, if this was the case why can the restaurant be at full capacity with no social distancing, people not wearing masks, people not following the one way system and not washing hands before touching the utensils.
The evening entertainment was terrible. It was repetitive and the singers did not know the words to most of the songs they chose to sing. The bar staff said ‘no’ to near enough every drink on the menu which meant we were limited to drinks choices even more and half the time the soft drinks self serve machine ran out!
As the week went on the hotel became more quiet which was nice meaning we did not need to be up at the crack of dawn to get a sun bed on the last two days of our holiday. However, the refurbishment seemed to begin while we were still there. Dirty mattresses, bedroom items and emptied leaking fridges lined the corridors meaning it became a health and safety hazard walking through the hotel, again no member of staff at this hotel seemed to care or consider the dangers of all the furniture covering the floors of the hallway.
The last day of our holiday came around, we were one of few guests left remaining at the hotel. Staff were packing up sun beds and putting umbrellas away, it was made to feel you were inconvenience being sat around by the pool. They had shut the bar by the second pool meaning you had to walk 10 minutes to get a drink at an all inclusive!
We enquired to keep our room as we had a night time flight, we were told we could pay 80 euros to keep until 4pm, that amount is extremely high for what we have already paid for the holiday and extra we had to spend to eat out on an evening due to the poor standard of food. The receptionist staff told us they offer a ‘courtesy room’ for their guests for 30 minutes to shower before leaving the hotel. We were told you needed to give the room back after 30 minutes to ensure there was 30 minutes to have the room deep cleaned before the next guest, we were understanding of this and were happy to use the courtesy room. However, to our horror when we went to the room we found it had NOT been cleaned with dirty towels on the floor, the shower filthy, bins full and drinks left behind from the people before. I alerted the receptionist team straight away, I had no apology and was told a cleaner would be there straight away. 20 minutes later a cleaner arrived who gave us clean towels but did NOT clean the room. This is absolutely appalling considering the current situation. We only then had 10 minutes before we had to be out of the room and to be at the meeting point for our transfer so we therefore had no choice but no shower in the filthy room. Again when giving the key to the room back over no apology or acknowledgment of their wrong doing. It is safe to say I would never return to this hotel and I would urge others to do the same.

We had room 386. There is no view only lots of foliage in front and a tiny view of the tennis court. If we had known earlier we would have paid extra for a view. Didn't have a lounger for two days until another guest asked someone if they could find two for us. Afterwards we noticed that guests where getting up before breakfast to save loungers(before 7-00am sometimes). Am ashamed to say we started to do the same. In the evening some were coming in the dining room in the same clothes as worn all day, and others would come in just to fill up plates to take outside. Also I have never been to a hotel that you couldn't get a coffee after your evening meal. If you want one you will need to go outside and get your own from self service. The cocktails were awful, all ready made in plastic containers under the bar and put in a blender with ice. The self service drinks machine did run out several times. The air con in our room hardly worked and it was too hot to sleep every night, also the fridge hardly worked as well. I will say the dining room staff worked really hard as did the room maids. our bedroom was very clean.

I'm very satisfied. I enjoyed my all stay at this hotel. The food was delicious. There is not to far to the beach. There are two swimming pools, big and nice. The hotel is offering many activites for kids and adults.
