This is our second stay at Cathedral Peak and this time we had a chance to fully take advantage of all the childrens' activities. Our boys were kept busy, going on walks to Belinda Falls, pony rides, going up the climbing wall and movie night. While we enjoyed the plentiful buffets, tea on the veranda, a beginner's horse ride in the mountains, playing chess and relaxing on the patio of our interleading room. Next visit we're doing the Cathedral Four! Thank you for a rejuvenating break from city life. We'll be back.
This was the highlight of our 2 week trip to South Africa. The resort is an absolute one of a kind - the friendliness and warmth of the staff was incredible, making us feel so welcome. The setting and location is second to none - absolutely beautiful, while the hotel grounds are perfectly maintained. There is personal care put into everything. Food of course is beyond description - you will never go hungry for a minute :-)
We visited Cathedral Peak with family and friends recently and we had a wonderful time. The kids loved their independence as they explored the resort and they were constantly entertained with tractor rides, pony rides, short hikes, kids activities etc. The food was next level and catered for everyone. So much variety and flavour. We were hoping for snow but maybe next time because we will be back!
Very disappointing, lovely view and tranquil space, spoilt by corporate parties late into the night. The apathetic response from staff and management, being told things like the music only starts at 10pm is norm and lack of foresight of placing guests directly opposite party venues out of over 100 rooms adds to the frustration.
Initially I was hesitant to visit considering the reviews about the condition of the roads to get there. However, it wasn't too bad with a regular vehicle during daylight and no rain. The accommodation in the superior room was very comfortable. Plenty to eat - Food was excellent. I was very happy with the overall cleanliness of the hotel and staff attitude. Enough activities to do as well. The hikes were bit intimidating for those who haven't hiked before even though the route was marked as easy. Enjoyed the horse riding in the beautiful mountains. The hotel is well prepared for loadshedding and this didn't even affect us. Would have loved to do the helicopter ride as well but had limited time. Rather book in advance. The hotel is cashless. My only gripe was that I was double charged on my bank card at the shop. It was a small amount so ask for a slip if the first transaction does not go through. A note would be to carry enough cash to tip waiters n staff - they deserve it. …
From check-in to check-out we had a fantastic experience. We had a magnificent room with the most spectacular views of Cathedral Peak and the surrounding Drakensberg, the hike to the Peak was brutal but awe-inspiring, and well worth being able to tuck into the scrumptious food afterwards. The hotel is in great condition and the service was exceptional all round. Can't wait to be back!
Great get away, we even extended our stay!!! Staff, food and hikes incredible. Rooms neat and spacious. Definitely worth the money and if you extend your stay you get a discounted rate which was a pleasant surprise!!!
Our family of 8 (2 grandparents, 2 parents and 4 kids (aged 10, 8, 4 and 2) had a wonderful family holiday in late June – navigating the few days of COVID regs and load shedding. Fortunately halfway through our stay COVID restrictions were removed by the President, and we could fully enjoy freedom in a world class setting. Having previously stayed at the hotel 15 years ago, we were pleased that the hotel has maintained its high standards, offering no shortage of activities for all ages to enjoy! The views from the golf course were even more stunning than I remember…our foursome continued to remark at the views of the peaks around us, lots of wildlife and some challenging elevation changes on holes 2, 3, 6 and 7. What a fun round! From the basic (Doreen Falls, Blue Pools) to more advanced hikes (Neptune Pools) – we took full advantage of the mild June weather for hiking. Our older kids really wanted to spend their days hiking and exploring the trails around the hotel…and even braved a swim in the cool mountain streams. Kids playground, mini-golf were all a hit, as were the resident bushbuck. We did a horse-ride with the hotel’s experienced guide - highly recommended! We even encountered Eland on the way back to the hotel! Plenty activities at night as one would expect from a family hotel – bingo, music trivia, jenga etc. Happiness kept kids and adults well entertained. Great food - buffet style with no shortage of delicious options and good value! All the hotel staff were incredibly helpful, warm and entertaining. Our kids loved “Wiseman” who was our waiter in the dining room – such a cheerful personality! We stayed in a standard family unit – clean but outdated. Next time we will book an updated one. Thank you for a wonderful stay – we will be back soon!…
Breath taking hikes with delicious buffet meals for the whole family to enjoy. Lots to do for children and two well stocked bars to enjoy sundowners or afternoon tea on the terrace. The hotel is situated on the foot of Cathedral Peak this hike is not for the faint hearted hiker. All the hikes are rated and can be done individually or with Guides. Will definitely go back to take on the Cathedral Peak Hike.
Excellent family holiday at Cathedral Peak hotel in the Drakensberg. Lots of activities for both adults and kids. The daily hikes from the hotel are highly recommended and suit all levels of hiking ability. The daily food buffets are excellent particularly the desserts.
