I have stayed at the Moth and Lantern a number of times and I have always been treated like an old friend. Lynn and Jay go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The rooms are inviting and as clean as can be (we had a spider in the room, but hey, it's the countryside so what else do you expect?) and I have always had a lovely stay. The breakfasts are fabulous and definitely leave you feeling more than full afterwards. The pub is currently under renovation, but it has never hindered my experience. If you want somewhere lavish and sparkling then no, his may not be the best choice. But if you want somewhere welcoming and hearty out in the countryside, then you'll have no issues here!

If you are looking for 5 star then this isn`t the place for you. However what you will get is a friendly welcoming b & b. The ensuite rooms are comfortable with tea and coffee facilities and flat screen tv. Lynn and Jay serve a hearty breakfast that ensures you won`t leave feeling hungry. We have visited time and again prior to and through their renovation and will continue to do so in the future.

We booked this hotel last minute with late rooms First of all, we were called whilst we were driving and basically rushed to check in as they wanted to go to bed. We got to the ‘pub’ and it was having a refurb apparently but looked like an abandoned building site. The woman greeting us was friendly enough but we felt very rushed. Got to the room which was disgusting! It was in a separate building and was grotty. Looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months! The room stank of damp, the bathroom was covered in muck and dust. Cobwebs and spiders everywhere!! The shower was freezing in the morning. We couldn’t wait to get out of there. If we didn’t live so far away we would have left and gone home. Would never stay there again. Disgusting!

We turned up here and it looked derelict, we thought it was closed. We rang the bell and a rather unkempt lady came to the door, she was very pleasant and showed us into what can only be described as a construction site. There was a refurbishment going on and that wasn't clear when we booked, but it was a MAJOR refurbishment. There were no facilities to have meals although she said she could give us breakfast. We didn't get a chance to see the separate accommodation as there was no way we could stay here, it was miles away from nowhere and took us way off our journey, and there were no facilities to sit down for a drink or a meal. I'm sure once refurbishment complete this would be different but the place wasn't fit for purpose and in my opinion shouldn't be advertised at the moment. It cost us a £7 cancellation fee and a lot of petrol to get there, which I feel was not justified in the circumstances and I'm writing this review in the hope some other unsuspecting souls won't be subject to this.

I am sorry you had an unacceptable experience, however, it clearly states both on Laterooms.com, through whom you booked, and on our own website, that the pub/restaurant are currently closed for refurbishment. The £7 cancellation related simply to the charge that I will incur from Laterooms.com. I charged this as your reason given for not staying was the location of the premises, as you wanted to stay in a town centre and had made the reservation in error. Our accommodation rooms are fully refurbished to a high standard. Breakfast is served in the refurbished snug, and the only area under refurbishment at the time of your visit was the large dining room. Again, I apologise for your experience, but it is prominently displayed on both Laterooms.com and our website that refurbishment is ongoing.

The best cheap accommodation I have stayed in. Clean comfortable room and hearty breakfast. £31 b&b. Only negative is I couldn't watch tv whilst in bed. Lynn is really friendly and the pub has good beer and a roaring fire.
