This 'hotel' is a dream - unique, most incredible seascape I have seen in Thailand yet, staff that are beyond friendly and accommodating, it's really been such a pleasure. I only stayed for 2 nights (weekend escape from Bangkok), but will absolutely be back, hopefully soon.
Cant say enough good things, the amazing views , very friendly staff . Will be coming back soon - A word of advice , for those used to aircon all day , this may not be the place for you - Think Tent - glam ping .. sounds of nature ...
During Covid-19 I am travelling every 2 weeks to explore Thailand's beaches – it is essentially a perfect time to explore all these magnificent places without tourist hordes; yet, I am saddened by the sheer economic devastation wrought upon leisure destinations in Thailand (and indeed the world over) – the economic pain is all the more acute when one ventures further and further from Bangkok. The big islands are suffering due to the need to fly there, which make those destinations pricey for domestic tourists – so just imagine how little islands off large islands are doing – almost everyone involved in tourism is jobless, shops & restaurants closed, most resorts shuttered, and the few which are open have near-zero guests during the week and perhaps 10%-15% occupancy on the weekends. Yet, islanders remain resolute – smiling and hospitable despite the adversity they face. And so I encourage all Bangkokians to venture further than just car-accessible locations. Visit the islands and far-flung beaches, they need your support. One of my first trips when domestic travel re-started was to Koh Yao Noi – and I very carefully examined my accommodation options – in the end, there was always going to be one clear winner, 9 Hornbills. Part of Koyao Island Resort, it is essentially the hillside portion of the resort – so, you stay on the hill, but come down to the resort to eat and use the beach. Where to start? Well, the is easy – the views. The views are simply breathtakingly spectacular, and no amount of words can accurately and fully describe the awesomeness of the positioning of the tents. The tents have wide, wide aspects of the ocean and the limestone outcrops. Stunning and intoxicating. The tents are tents – I state the obvious, in order to draw a clear distinction between a “room” and a “tent”. The night sounds are really magnificent, and it rained at some point every night when I was there, and the soft patter of rain was clearly audible and so soothing – it lulled me to a great sleep. Short of sleeping outside in the open, a tent is the next best thing – don’t bother to lower the flaps to keep out the light, you really DO want to wake up with the stunning dawn (um, and then I fell asleep again….). The room is cooled by a type of aircon behind the bedhead which is in no way as efficient as a normal room’s aircon, but I also had 2 enormous standing fans in the tent and these did a marvelous job of circulating air. During the day I would hang out at my tent’s pool or on the beach, and I ate down the hill at the resort – guests normally call for a buggy to go back and forth between the tents and the resort but I opted to walk, and did not take the buggy a single time. The walk down is easy and the walk up is, well, harder but still pleasant. The beach is great (sadly every beach in Thailand, and everywhere else, has its share of plastic flotsam), the resort grounds are immaculate. However, during Covid the resort is operating with less staff and therefore there are some trade-offs – no-one is paying full rate, and the resort operates with scaled-down services (the spa is by advanced booking only, and the restaurants has a smaller menu) – it all makes sense, and is appropriate and proportionate to the circumstances. I must stress that service is heartfelt and offered with broad smiles and a sense of accommodation – just ask, and they’ll try 100% to accommodate your wishes and desires. I enjoyed the food and chef tried so hard to vary the menu, and the resort also tries to offer a different experience for one weekend night – a BBQ at the beachside, or at the hilltop for example. Last word on travel - the resort offered to pick me up at the public pier, but recommended coming by private longtail boat (either from Krabi or Phuket is possible) and for Bt5,000 (airport to resort) I did just that - landing directly on the resort beach is a wonderful sense of arrival. Totally worth it, and so much easier and faster to the public transport alternative. All in all, my 4-day stay was fantastic, the setting was totally memorable.…
9 Hornbills Tented Camps is part of Koyao Island Resorts hotel that is situated on the beach. These luxury tents up on the hill provide an unique and romantic experience to couples with privat tent accomondation, pool and free in-room food service (and floating breakfast) and buggy ride to and from the main hotel. View from the tents was amazing, don't miss out on the sunrise! "Rooms" are clean and stylish - only missing AC which in naturally impossible to implement in open tents. Many in-room fans do the job. Service was good, some in-house orders were missing some minor things (like mayo etc), no biggie. Restaurant offered good food and especially the cocktails in the up-the-hill bar were delicious
Came for 5 glorious days.. But still here due to flight cancellations .. Although like every resort suffering from the current situation - staff still happy and vibrant and resort still amazing. It cannot be easy for the Management team to continue such high moral and doing upmost to go out of their way to the guests remaining... operating like this, as stress levels must be running high. Attentive staff also surprised me with a lovely Birthday cake delivery to the Tent... it was delicious also.. When the world calms down please visit 9 Hornbills.. I promise you , you will not be disappointed.. it really is more magical than the websites can capture.. also make sure to arrange the long tail boat trip from front desk.. A very memorable event.. Thank you to all the staff.. it has been an amazing 12 night stay.. and considering the world issues at the moment.. A tip top job.. Oh and floating breakfast a fun event..…
