There is NOTHING more amazing than waking up naturally and peacefully as the sun rises, and not even having to get out of bed to enjoy your view - overlooking the jungle and the sea. It is seriously special. The staff, particularly our lovely host Tine, were just wonderful - so warm, fun, friendly, and genuinely caring. Without electricity & wi-fi, we really learned to appreciate the luxuries that nature offers. The treasures that this hotel provides really are the closeness to the jungle, the beautiful local food ingredients, the amazing sustainability practices, the wild creatures you can see and hear, the people who run it and the beautiful setting (rather than the usual perceived hotel ''luxury'' of air con, TV screens and tacky plastic mini shampoos). The food at the restaurant is unbelievable - we spent over a week on the island and the food at The Hideout was by far the best we had. Home-cooked, fresh ingredients and a beautiful selection on the menu. We loved every single meal. Our lovely host would chat to us about our food likes/dislikes etc and was kind and thoughtful enough to order in a particular fruit for my fussy boyfriend to try, and to arrange local honeycomb to be sourced for us to sample. And the chefs are seriously talented. Every detail has been carefully thought about - from the careful and beautifully simple design of each room, the very comfortable beds, home-made mosquito-repelling eco-friendly shower gel, gorgeous Thai bath robes, a well-written welcome and guidebook in each bedroom, board games to play by eco-lantern light in the evenings. The hotel was a sanctuary for us (away from busy lives in London). Plus, The Hideout provides mopeds to go and explore the bustle of the island during the daytimes, but we could still come back to the peace and calm at nighttime. Any poor reviews of this hotel (I can sadly see a couple) are from people who have totally failed to understand the point of this place. No - it is not for the faint-hearted: you will hear exciting jungle noises in the night, and you will have to go to bed when it gets dark and wake up when it gets light, and being in a treehouse during a storm is exhilarating, and there is no wi-fi - IF THIS IS NOT FOR YOU, then WHY did you stay here? For us, these things were what the experience was all about. THANK YOU HIDEOUT! <3…
