Enjoy your stay in Watamu!
What an idyllic place to visit! We spontaneously changed to the hotel and loved it from the start. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. It is located at the beautiful bay of Watamu overlooking the small fishing boats and the white beach. You can easily reach the center of Watamu and restaurants/ bars. The hotel complex is very well maintained and green. It feels like a small oasis in paradise. My family and I will definitely be back soon.
Great location, almost exclusively Italian...really good authentic cuisine. Evenings are dress up and feel good experiences! Facilities and rooms, are clean but not sophisticated... bathrooms are average...suffering from some wear and tear... If you’re not fussy you will love it!
I only needed a hotel for the weekend as it was another flying visit to Watamu. Having stayed at Hemingways, Medina, Turtle and Ocean Sports, I had a fair idea of what to expect. But even my low expectation was above what was delivered. First, the good points. Good airconditioning and some friendly F&B staff. And the water was hot. Sadly not much else. Reception was like checking into a prison - 2 extremely grumpy and rude ladies - no welcome, just "Name, Papers" and then tried to tell me I booked for 4 not 2. I explained 2 single rooms but the concept of someone travelling alone was beyond her. Not an auspicious start. Then to the rooms, no kettle, no phone, no option of room service for late arrivals, no wifi (reception only) and a mattress that came from a prison. A shower that constantly flooded and powerpoints that didn't work completed the penitential experience. F&B was so regimented - you had to sit at the same table all the time and more than half the choices were octopus or calamari in various disguises. Pretty unappetising. Upon returning from an activity with some fresh fish, I asked the Italian chef if he could prepare some for dinner (as is the custom in the Watamu hotels). He didn't even speak, just shook his head and waved me away! Fortunately one of the Kenyan chefs obliged - but only if we had it served before the main dinner and in a separate area! Check out was worse than check in - despite spending 180 nights a year in hotels, I don't think I have ever been shouted at by a front desk person. Surprisingly I kept calm and explained the errors in billing (wrong bills allocated to wrong rooms - despite what was written and signed for, they had been posted incorrectly) and eventually settled after a 20 minute debate. A poor experience and one not to be repeated.…
First time I went to Blue Bay it was 1996. And it was even my first time to Africa.A deep passion is bringing me back year after year.....Africa with her people and her nature it is something unique and Blue Bay too. The resort is located @Watamubeach with direct access to the ocean. An amazing place where you can assist to one of the most beautiful sunset of the world....Mostly Italian food in a very elegant ambience and the care to you from all the people working there. Maurizio, the director, manages everything in a very professional way but it is even that brother always ready to support you. There are thousend of words I can write but the best it is you go there to try.
The entertainment is amazing, really great to watch at night. Always fun things to watch, always pumping! They put on such great shows all the time since we've been here. Its different all the time. The activities are great, they do beer drinking , volly ball, golf , dancing, disco at the beach every day, they do crazy games like paddle boats and zumba and much more.
