*LONG REVIEW* Skip to the end for overall summary. If you look at my profile you will see that I have left dozens of reviews for other AI resorts (mostly Iberostars) and this is the LOWEST score I’ve left so far. This is not a “fake” review. My husband and I wanted to give a fully glowing review, but we just can’t do this without being dishonest about how we felt after staying here for 14 days. This was a really hard review to write. We are beneficiaries of club members (my mom and dad). We celebrated our 50th birthdays and 10th anniversary over our 14 day stay. This is our 2nd time at the Grand (previously in 2021) and have stayed once at the Suites (2019). All of our previous stays at the Rose Hall Iberostar have also been over our birthdays. Scores below are taking into consideration our previous stays and comparisons to Iberostar Grand Bavaro (Dominican Republic) and Iberostar Paraiso Beach (Mexico) The BEST at the Rose Hall resort property: 10/10 - Snorkelling off the beach - Massages From Tammy at the Spa - she gives the best massages I have ever had. Followed by Yajaira at Iberostar Grand Bavaro. - Maid service: These ladies are the heroes. Friendly and lovely. Nikesha (daytime) and Jodi (turndown). Butlers: 6/10 If we asked for anything it would probably get done. No more, no less. The Club Amenities /Service: 7/10 In the Star prestige lounge the lovely Troy-Ann welcomed us back and brought us to our room. We originally thought we would want the same room we had our last visit (top floor), but it was not available so we were given a 2nd floor room (a blessing!). The 2nd floor room was covered and the balcony was still a bit bigger. Loved the fan and swing chair. Would definitely recommend the 2nd floor oceanfront room in building 5. At the Star prestige lounge Daviah and Chenielle took care of our reservations and wine. Nice and friendly ladies. Venise was helpful with procuring Dragonstout for my husband. Apparently it is very hard to find because the men hoard it because it is an important ingredient for some special elixir for the men! Venise wins for making me laugh the hardest on this trip!! At the Star prestige beach Tanya (beach concierge), Rasa (bartender/waitress) took care of us. DJ (beach concierge) also supported for a few days. Friendly folks. Monghoney (Sean) is the member ambassador. He checked with us daily to see if we “needed” anything. It was lovely to see Patrice (newly promoted to member ambassador at the Suites) while eating at the Oriental restaurant. She recognized us and came over to say hello. We didn’t recognize her without her Beach concierge outfit and big glasses. She is a gem. We really missed her on this trip!! No club amenities provided or offered “above” what is provided per the Club contract (liquor in room). Iberostar Grand Bavaro had fresh roses in a beautiful vase and provided us with other extras and we weren’t celebrating anything. Iberostar Paraiso Beach gave us sandals, beach hats, special cups and other goodies. Iberostar Cozumel also provided us with special cups and lots of special snacks. All of these extras from the other properties were provided to us from the Club star prestige even though we weren’t celebrating anything. Remember that this is in comparison to the Club at other Iberostar properties. Good service was provided, just not exceptional service that we expected from the Club which we had received on previous visits as well. Breakfast / lunch buffet staff: 10/10 WOW these folks are the super team. Amazing team effort from the servers, cooks, hostesses and waitstaff. They elevated the experience up a notch for buffet meals! Special shoutout to Judy and Shadenia. They came over to say hello to us at every meal. Lovey and genuine ladies. Room service: 10/10 Used room service for lunch on our last full day. It was excellent. Order came within 40 minutes. Still hot and tasted great. We ordered the Truffle burger and spicy wings. Dinner Restaurants: 1st Place - Italian (8/10) Our favourite overall. Service was amazing. Ate here for my husband’s 50th birthday. Both times we ate outside on the terrace. For us, it was the best seat in the house!! Food was great. It felt like a high class restaurant. Jamaican restaurant: 3/10 Was our favourite during our 2021 visit. Our least favourite this visit. Service was slow and with the exception of the head waiter table service not done well at all (e.g. no filling up water or wine glasses). Lobster was spoiled one night here (smelled like ammonia). The oxtail (usually my favourite) was tough and so spicy my mouth burned for the rest of the day and I have a high tolerance for spicy foods. It was never cooked like that previously. The fruit cake was good. Surf and Turf: 7/10 The ribs on my birthday were amazing here. Staff was friendly and sang happy birthday and provided a cake when we advised them it was my birthday. On the 2nd visit we also had spoiled lobster served to us here. Not as rancid smelling as the Jamaican, but pretty terrible. We sent it back and the chef was again advised. My husband and I can’t eat lobster here anymore. This was the final straw. Regular Buffet 2/10: We tried the dinner buffet the first night there was a buffet offered (night #5 I think-Mexican). The service was horrible and the food was pretty terrible for me. My husband liked the food but for him it seemed like it was the leftovers from breakfast and lunch. The Mexican food was over cooked. Only gelatin (jello style) desserts. The space in the buffet was not used well. Lots of empty space. The waiter seemed like he was hating working there. Thanksgiving buffet: Desserts Only - take out (9/10) We took the excellent desserts back to the room with us. We didn’t have our meal here that night because we were very turned off eating there from our first time trying. Oriental (suites): 8/10 Great service by our waitress! She was attentive to time as we wanted to leave by 9pm to make it back for the Michael Jackson show (excellent show-worth watching). Food was good. Liked the curry shrimp the best. Tepenyaki: 7/10 Was good. Liked our chef, but the other tables that were going before us were so loud. Having to listen to “Old MacDonald” being sung loudly twice before our table was painful. Thankfully our chef had an amazing voice and sang other mainstream songs for us instead of nursery rhymes. Food was ok but too salty. Gourmet: 7/10 Excellent food. Our waiter Simpson was incredible! He also served us at the surf & turf and twice at the Gourmet. Negative for this restaurant: On November 26 the hostess was not friendly. We were the 2nd couple in the restaurant for the 6:30pm seating with plenty of seats for 2 but she said we couldn’t sit anywhere but in the elevated section that was crowded with tables/chairs. I’m claustrophobic so I started to panic when she brought us there. I told her that I needed to sit in the lower section. She refused to seat us anywhere but there. My husband went to her to explain and she said that ALL the other tables were reserved and we could only sit there. Simpson came over and saw my panic (I was going to leave) and he lead me over to another seat. Thankfully he was there to help. Note that there were plenty of empty seats that were never sat in even after we left. Not sure what her issue was?? Summary Comparing Other Iberostar properties: I’ve now been to 4 Iberostar properties and can see the differences between them. The Rose Hall property: I have photographs showing the amazing birthdays we’ve celebrated there in the previous years vs. this year’s (expected even more for a milestone birthday). It was fine, just not exceptional. My birthday was forgotten and delayed by a few days. I was treated to a lovely decorated sun bed and cake, but after I reminded the staff 2 days later. My husband doesn’t like a big deal but I did ask for a cake and champagne for his birthday to be celebrated at the beach. It never happened. I told him to hang out at the prestige beach for a surprise on the afternoon of his birthday “wink wink” and I would meet him there. He was completely ignored. I felt really bad!! We were there for almost 2 weeks by then and everyone knew he was there to celebrate his 50th birthday and he was completely ignored. Only the housekeeper remembered and wrote him a nice note and decorated our bed!! Paraiso Property: Went to Paraiso Beach and had better service at the lowest end than Rose Hall Grand. It’s a different culture I think. Feels like smoke and mirrors at Rose Hall. They say they will do something fabulous and they don’t deliver an exceptional experience. At the beach in Paraiso “Issac” (beach concierge) knew how we liked our bed set up with extra towels rolled up for our heads WITHOUT asking after the first day. At the LOWEST END RESORT. At the Grand in Rose Hall we did that ourselves every day. No extra towels brought like we liked plus we tipped higher here. Grand Bavaro: Our Butler Alberto was incredible. I told him that we hardly used the butler at the Rose Hall Grand so we will be “easy guests” for him. He refused this and advised us that he is there to make sure we have an amazing vacation and that he was going to deliver a relaxing experience for us. We will need him. He then delivered an incredible experience every day without us asking for anything (champagne and strawberries, little treats, he knew I loved cranberry juice and tonic water and delivered it chilled on ice every day in the room). Prestige Beach and Lounge experience was similar. We said we didn’t need much and they just went above and beyond. Augusto had cold bottles of water waiting for us on the sun bed with towels fully lining the bed and extra pillows. Gigi (prestige lounge Concierge) coordinated with the butler (Alberto) for dinner reservations. She then came to the beach to ensure our dinner reservations were exactly what we wanted. We never had to go to them. They always came to us. I really like the people that work at Iberostar Rose Hall, but it seemed like they were talking to us but not really listening to what we were saying or taking note of our preferences. We just gave up trying after a few days and just said everything is fine. It was frustrating to repeat what we liked every day over and over. We do not like to complain repeatedly and will not. We make the the best of the experience. Example: Asking if our mini fridge had what we liked EVERY day and saying it didn’t EVERY DAY. We had to repeatedly advise what we wanted. Over and over. I love tonic water. It was brought to our room after 9:30pm with someone repeatedly knocking at our door for several minutes even though we had the DO NOT DISTURB sign visible. Half way through our stay we just went hunting for what we liked rather than repeating what we liked every day. We don’t drink Coke. We kept taking the Coke out of the mini fridge and actually gave the 10 full cans on top of the fridge back. Then they would reappear back in the mini fridge every day. The attention to detail is just not there. It’s kind of comical. Not high end luxury brand treatment like I experienced at the Bavaro Grand. Also, how can a resort in Jamaica not have ginger beer or ginger ale? Very strange. Note to Prestige & Butler Management: YOU are the ones responsible to take care to ensure staff is trained appropriately and they are aware of the elevated service provided at these other Iberostar properties. You are responsible for training the Concierge and Butlers to be more attentive to detail. Those folks are working really hard and they are doing what is expected based on your training. They don’t know how other Iberostar Club properties serve their members. You have good staff working for you. You too can train the staff to be EXCEPTIONAL like Augusto and Issac. They are mentors to other staff at Bavaro and Paraiso to replicate how they work. Also, treat your staff well and with dignity. They can only be exceptional with guests with exceptional leadership. After staying here for 14 days I’m not sure that they are all treated well and fairly. Same thing for butlers. Alberto is a great model at Bavaro Grand. Maybe it’s just cultural and it can’t be replicated in Jamaica, but if the breakfast/lunch staff and cleaning staff can be exceptional, why not these other areas? Bottom line: We do love Jamaica and will be back in a couple years if we learn through social media/Trip Advisor that the service is improved at Iberostar Rose Hall.…
The best resort I’ve been to in Jamaica so far! The Butler service was great and he was attentive to our needs. They made my mom birthday very special. The food was delicious and the drinks was great. Beautiful beach and pool area was relaxing. The nighttime entertainment was great, the staff made sure everyone had a great time. Overall phenomenal stay and would definitely suit again
Very clean adults only hotel, with friendly and polite staff. Lots of activities throughout the day and plenty of good food to enjoy. Beautiful beaches on the property. Access to the other 2 hotels on the property
We visited Iberostar for our honeymoon around thanksgiving . The property was absolutely stunning . Staying at the grand you will find yourself with more of an older crowd as this is adults only. We enjoyed the access to the other 2 properties while we were at The Grand. We would advise that you explore other food options with staying, we found we enjoyed the food at the other two properties more . We also found it interesting that when you leave the grand you have to may for certain drinks that are included at the grand. We felt that it would make more sense to have access to the same alcohol privileges you at the grand on the other 2 properties because you have the same access to food . You concierge will try to have you book all your dinners at the grand, still explore to see what you like best and book accordingly. No tells you, you have access to the spa, which is open everyday and closes at 6pm. Amesha F was really helpful in suggesting activities to do while you stay . She was extremely warm and welcoming, made our stay more exciting even though she was not at the grand. She was able to answer any questions we had and recommend somethings to do/eat. Bubbles and smiley were the life of the party with beach games and just bringing the hype/ excitement . If you are looking for quiet stay at the grand if are looking for turn up pick one of the other two properties . Our butlers were extremely friendly and caring,…
Family and friends totaling 26 people of various ages and everyone had an excellent time. The resort’s staff are very friendly and make you feel like family. Thanks to all the ladies [Deviah, Sheneille, Shaf’a, Troy-Ann] in the Star Prestige Club Lounge and [Tanya, Ray Ann and Rassa] at the Star Prestige Beach Bar for all their assistance and professionalism.
This was our first mother and daughter vacation. We stayed in Iberostar Grand Rose Hall . It was an awesome vacation with beautiful property, well maintained and lot of entertainment in the evenings. The had programs all through the day and nice gym as well. The beach was nice with lot of cabanas to relax. The food was great, lot of options and the staff were very accommodating. We had a butler service, especially Terrance was attentive and promptly catered to our needs . The head butler Krishna was very welcoming and friendly throughout our stay which made it memorable. Exceptionally grand spread dinner in Thanksgiving day and highly would recommend this property . 😊
I love this brand if hotels and actively seek it out in any country to which I travel and in which the brand has a resort. So far, my one hiccup is the way the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall in Montego Bay, Jamaica waylay you with their push to get customers to signup for, what I call Time Share, programme. I find it very off-putting and felt almost pressured this last trip after I told the consierge flat out that I was not interested. Still, she persisted. I had to resort to dodging her to avoid creating a scene. Very off-putting. Besides that, my stay was very relaxing and my sister and I had a wonderful time enjoying the entertainment and amenities at both the Grand and the sister hotels as well.
I have enjoyed this trip to the fullest. Everything has been made so easy for me throughout this stay thanks especially to my Butlers, Rohan and Christopher he is a super star always on time with things we ask him to do . They are an asset to this Hotel. When I come back I will definitely ask for them.housekeeping was also good Chantel entertainment was good like all the shows can’t wait to get back one love Jamaica
This resort is fantastic! It fits many price points, is meticulously kept and the staff makes you feel like you are on vacation at your home away from home. There was plenty of food drinks and entertainment. We will definitely be back.
We traveled to Jamaica for the first time on the Friday after Thanksgiving. We were with a group and the first person we met was Jodian, she told us she was our main point of contact and made it seem as if she was going to take a good care of us. The first thing she said to us was like she didn’t know we were coming as a group and our group organizer had been in communication with the PR rep. When she came up to us upon arrival she was WAY to familiar with us. She was very condescending and boarder line rude. We are a group of adults similar in age and she was talking to us as if we were children and hadn’t been anywhere before. We are all young professionals and business owners that know very well how to act and carry ourselves. To make matters worse, once we told her we were not going to the timeshare presentation, she told a couple in our group that she was wasting her time with us. She told us “when people speak to you, don’t act all stuck up”, “don’t be jealous if you have a butler of an opposite sex”, these are just some of the off putting rules she gave us. To make matters worse, I didn’t see my butler until day 3 after telling her & the front desk several times. When I told this to Jodian, she sent me a voice note telling me that the butler had come by 3 times and blamed us because we were gone. However, we were gone the same time as everyone in our group and they got a what’s app message and met their butler multiple times. Basically, Jodian just left us high and dry and she was just too much. She needs a class on etiquette and how to approach people as you never know who you’re talking to. It was very tasteless. Solonge with Amstar was amazing & very helpful. She does need a proper desk as it seemed as if she was uncomfortable, but still went above and beyond to assist us. The overall staff was kind and very accommodating, Jodian is really the reason for the poor score. …
