We had room 320 which is a scenic view room overlooking the gardens and river but room itself was very disappointing. Curtains on both windows were not fully attached to rails due to rail runners being missing, one of the sash windows was held closed by woodscrews, broken bath taps, broken glass in the bathroom window, mould around the bathroom...

Fabulous holiday was had here. Room was decorated lovely, nice and clean. Staff were really nice and friendly. Such a lovely peaceful location. We decided to leave all devices in the room at night as there were board games, which is a brilliant idea, wish there was more choice tho lol. We actually talked and spent real quality time together....

Beautiful last minute stay at The George on Saturday 18th March. The staff were very friendly especially in the restaurant. Leisure facilities were clean tidy and a nice size, only criticism would be that the food needs to be o a better standard. Very basic for the typical hotel price. Overall would recommend.

We got a decent deal for 3 nights half-board and decided to upgrade to a superior room and one with a scenic view. The room, whilst being fairly large and having a view of the bridge and river, was rather tired and a bit shabby - the windows ran with condensation and the towel rail did not work until the...

We have just returned from a four night stay in a Premier room (308) and on arrival was presented with an unflushed and dirty toilet, used toiletries in the shower, extractor fan not working, (baring in mind this is an enclosed bathroom with no other ventilation), no heating working and was refused an extra blanket due to cutbacks. Old inn turned hotel with indoor pool, beauty room. Such a nice place to stay, the gardens face the river where we saw a heron and other birds. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set in a beautiful river front location, just five miles from the market town of Hexham, the George at Chollerford is a historic building dating back to the 1700's renowned for its fine food and hospitality. It is great to have such a history behind the hotel as we feel we are doing an excellent job of keeping the tradition going, but we have also spent a lot of money upgrading a number of facilities in the hotel including the leisure club, with its swimming pool and gym, situated west of Newcastle we are in ideal spot for walkers, history buffs and gardeners alike - you will be spoilt for choice. The hotel is a perfect retreat in a location that we consider to be one of the most relaxing in Northumbria. ... more   less
