The Royal was one of the most comfortable stays, the best part being that it is very near to nainital. You dont need to climb up to reach the hotel. The rooms are nice and well-ventilated, with an additional small kitchen. The staff is friendly. Only missed the regular wi-fi ,

I along with my family visited Nanital in July 2016 and stayed in this hotel. The room was Suite which costed us around 7000/- per night but our experience with the Hotel was really pathetic. Room service was terrible and the management too was on the same lines. The overall experience was poor.

Located at a walking distance from the lake side . The hotel is an old building but well renovated. Our hotel rooms were large. I was expecting smaller rooms typical of many hill station hotels. Luxurious; nicer than expected! Big bathrooms. The hotel staff was friendly and eager to please. The included breakfast was good; we were seated with a nice...

The hotel is being called heritage. That gives an excuse to the establishment, not to have any modern amenities. Food is not good. There is no Wi-Fi. Terribly cold even with rented heater. All the days we stayed in this hotel, we visited Manu Maharani for lunch and dinner.

Having picked on Nainital as our hill resort for a brief summer vacation, we were fortunate enough to have zeroed in on ROYAL HOTEL ,Mallital, for our stay in Nainital, while perusing through the websites of several other luxurious Hotels in Nainital, most of whom were rejected for lack of various facilities as required by us. Ideally located in the city's hub(...

Went last year, couldn't find a place for a stay at other hotels, hence the best bargain was to settle up with a hotel with parking, as nainital during summers is flocked by adjoining city crowd and hence becomes over crowded creating an augmented demand thus creating mess for people who travel miles to reach here and are exorbitantly charged...

As it is my first visit to nainital with my family, i enjoyed my stay in the royal hotel because it provided us a peaceful and comfortable stay. I would like to recommend this hotel to my friends and relatives so that they could also enjoy the level of hospitality the hotel offers to their guests.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Since the very days when the the British arrived and settled in Nainital, the Royal Hotel has been a defining landmark of this quaint lake town. Established in 1906 by Colonel George Edward Bridge, an officer in the East India Company, the hotel was a hill retreat catering to officers, policy makers and nobility during the British Raj. After the colonial years however, the hotel was taken over by the Indian Government and subsequently sold to the Punvani family which runs it to this day. During the early post-colonial period, the hotel witnessed its renaissance, when it was revived from the ghosthouse that it had become, and transformed into a disco/night club, Nainital’s first and only for a long time. While it may seem ironic, over the decades gone by, the Royal has undergone a complete metamorphosis, but maintains its nostalgic charm notwithstanding. After the decade of the swinging seventies, the hotel was renovated and expanded. Six new rooms were built and others renovated to meet modern standards. It was during this time that the Royal was the set for “Masoom,” the Shekhar Kapur directed classic. In addition, the hotel was officially recognized as a heritage hotel by the Indian Goverment. But perhaps the greatest honour bestowed upon the hotel was its recognition in the book of the “Leading Hotels of the British Commonwealth.” To date, it is the only hotel in Nainital to have ever acheived this noteworthy distinction. From British noblemen to Indian businessmen, the Royal Hotel has been a home away from home for visitors since over a hundred years. With its quintessentially British architecture, when one walks the corridors at the Royal Hotel it becomes abundantly evident that history and heritage is all around. Formidable bay windows, wood-burning fireplaces, stone walls, rustic walkways and impressive sculptures echo an old world charm that is seldom recreated in these modern times. It is no surprise then, that guests at the Royal Hotel often describe their stay as unique, nostalgic and unforgettable. ... more   less
