My stay at this place was absolutely amazing. The location is perfect. Away from the traffic and all the chaos. It’s a home away from home. Me and my partner felt like we were taken care of personally by the owners and everyone else working there. The whole ambience was beautiful. We stayed for about three nights and every morning I really enjoyed the breakfast there. The food was delicious and freshly cooked. The entire staff was warm and welcoming. They took care of our needs and wants. The owner was there everyday at the breakfast to check up on us , if our stay is comfortable and if we need anything else . Genuinely welcoming and friendly owners. I am so glad that we chose to stay at this place. It really made my trip to nainital memorable. Whenever I visit nainital again I am definitely going back here.

I had a relaxing and tranquility weekend. I was delighted by the hospitality . The staff was amicable and courteous. The breakfast croissants and banana crepes were mouth watering. The beauty of the numerous trees and the spectacular view enhanced to the overall experience. The relaxed and elegant atmosphere added to the feeling of serenity.

Dear Sara, thank you for your review. Quiet and serene is what Abbotsford estate is and living in the cities we have become fearful of the quiet I'm afraid. So get more of your tribe and bring along more people to share this hidden space so close to Delhi.

Best getaway in Nanital. Non-commercial,the management and service take great pride in their regal hospitality. Sprawling landscaped gardens and princely rooms sent you reeling thru... to the luxuries of nineteen century were we savoured some of the most exquisite breakfast cooking. Plum juice, rumble tumble eggs, succulent croissants and banana pancakes with filter coffee were out of the world. We even ordered the dinner there, which turned out to be an affair in gastronomy. Surprised with both their Indian was well as continental menu. Each dish had its own marvellous recipe.

Pros: excellent view from the home's lawn/verandah, the trees and plants in the property are wonderful - but the view alone cant add to the overall experience from the stay, so, below is my personal opinion based on my experience. I am generally not a strong critic and can happily absorb some moderate errors, but I must say, I absolutely did not enjoy my stay, below are reasons: Cons: a) Firstly, at this place I felt unsafely ISOLATED, I had this unusual feeling, if we get robbed at night, no one would even know until our check-out day. b) Unsafe & irresponsible: They advertize 24 hour power back up but my family was in pitch darkness for 2 hours in midnight and no one from the hotel even arrived, I called makemytrip customer service more than 15 times and they tried to call the hotel but no one picked up the call. I could not leave my family alone to go out and search for someone because we only only had a mobile phone flash light to survive on, and there is no lighting at all from the rooms to reach the main house building, it was wild darkness outside. Next morning they mentioned that there is generally a staff who is responsible to switch on the generator but he was sleeping and could not answer all those calls - this is unacceptable! c) Under resourced & unprofessional: they have too few staff to manage their guests, who are not even near to trained, they have no dress code, no welcoming ettiquetes, professionalism is far far away, homestay doesnot mean no security, no availability to attend to your call for SOS support even after 2 hours while you are struggling in absolute darknes, for a lame reason that staffs were sleeping. d) Very highly priced for no good reason: I booked this property only by looking at the reviews & pictures at tripadvisor, paid 4.5k per night BUT now since I experienced that the view is only from the verandah and no view from room, the quality of room is not worth and the service quality is poor (even if I take out point b), its not worth more than 1.5k to 2k range per night, if I were to advise a friend who is willing to book it, despite of my experience. e) No one knows Abbotsfor, even the next hotel adjacent to this property, the neighbours, they had no idea when we asked 'where is Abbotsford'. This is just a fancy name prefixed to the actual name of the property 'Prasada bhawan' .. This point is for general awareness, not a part of Cons, because its naturally located this way, no one's fault: it would take a lion's heart to keep seated in the car while your driver is driving uphill to reach this property, its too steep, we stepped out of the car and walked, but yes, once the driver has done it once, he will do it comfortably next time (if he is a good driver with experience driving in hilly areas), local drivers do it like cake walk, I am talking about outstation drivers. Lastly, I have seen the property managers very confidentlty contesting customer reviews, which was infact one of the reasons why I chose to stay with them, thinking they are rightoeous, but now I realise that perhaps those customers were right.

Dear Suman, Firstly, let me sincerely apologise that your stay at Abbotsford didn’t live up to your expectations. Nothing pains us more than an unsatisfied guest and please be assured that whatever is possible to be rectified from your feedback has already been done. Due to the inclement weather conditions we had a long power failure in the city and unfortunately auto mode of the power back up didn’t function. Due to the power failure the communication network of the BSNL mobile tower was also impacted and make my trip team was not able to connect to the hotel team. Had you walked a few steps down to the reception the problem could have been resolved. However we fully accept that it was our responsibility to cater to that. This is the first time in our operations that we encountered such an issue and we have already implemented a process so that such a case is not repeated in future. However, at times, incorrect fit of guest requirements/ expectations with the place chosen for stay does become the main reason for guest dissatisfaction. Unlike other resorts in Nainital, Abbotsford is a Heritage Homestay and has always been positioned accordingly. Despite being a Homestay we have catered to a reasonably robust service infrastructure to enhance the guest experience, however this still will be very different from a regular resort as it will be local and un-manicured. Abbotsford is a gated private estate, spread over 4 acres, with restricted entry. Despite being at a walking distance from the city centre it is completely masked from the city traffic and noise pollution. The major area of the estate is green with a large lawn and number of Oak, Walnut and other trees. What we offer is a very peaceful private abode at a Heritage Homestay amidst nature. It will be very unfair to term it Unsafe as we have been living here for many decades without any incident and this gated estate is probably one of the safest place to stay. It is definitely very peaceful and serene, the true mountain experience which we want to offer and which so many of our guests have loved in past years. At times its merely a mismatch of guest expectations….what seems isolated to some is the only experience our happy & repeat guests visit us for. It’s also slightly surprising to know that you had problems in locating the place. “Abbotsford Prasada Bhawan” is the full name, the listed name and the name on which you would have made your online booking and same would also be mentioned on the voucher provided to you by make my trip. The last 100 m drive to our place is steep, as it would be for many of the homes/resorts in hill stations, but it is concrete, easily drivable and most of our guests do come to us in their own cars. Most importantly we also have ample space for a free parking inside the estate , which is a rarity in hill locations. Without trying to contest the review I would still like to say that the right fit of your expectation while choosing the place to stay is very important, which sometimes is difficult on a purely online booking. This plays a major role in guests perception of services, price and experience . Though we try very hard to set up the right expectations on all platforms so that we receive guests who enjoy the private, peaceful , heritage , unmanicured, local mountain experience but we understand that we still need to make it better on the online channels. Notwithstanding it was our duty to make sure that you had a comfortable stay and we deeply regret that you didn’t feel the same. We will be happy to extend an invitation to you to visit us sometime in near future and allow us to change your opinion about Abbotsford.

We went to Cafe Chika at hotel Abbotsford in Mallital Nainital as a group, When we arrived there the tables were laid in the garden. The chairs were all stained. The food, below average and presentation, very poor. The staff were not courteous nor tidy in appearance. Moreover, the manager, a woman took ages to calculate the bill, eventually we had to help her and she did it manually. We would give it a rating of zero on a scale of 10.
