We unfortunately only had one night at Sölvanes Guesthouse but we enjoyed it very much!
The rooms are in a seperate guesthouse, spacious with nice, shared bathrooms and a well equipped kitchen with a big table to either eat socially together or also seperate if wanted.
But the best are Eydis and her husband Runar - during the breakfast in their kitchen, you have the chance to ask about Icelandic life, traditions, climate,... and they are happy to give you a glimpse of what it means to live andrun a sheep farm in Iceland.
You will probably be able to see the stables (if you are lucky, with some lambs in it) and already from the clean, fresh smell you can tell how serious they take the animal welfare: it is an organic sheep farm - probably the only one in Iceland.

We had 15 different accomodations during our trip through Iceland and this left the biggest impression regarding open mindedness and feeling welcome. They even sent us some toys, that our daughter left in the kitchen.

Thank you, Eydis and Runar!

We did not stay overnight but, we came by for basically an unannounced farm visit. But the host was so welcoming and has a big heart for her animals. We basically got a private trip around her farm and we got the pet the most adorable sheep ever. She invited us in for a coffee and lovely pancakes. It was a very authentic experience and even though we came out of the season she was still ready to give us the best experience. Also it hardly costed anything.

This is a very friendly farm people in Skagafjörður up in north Iceland. We did have two rooms for the 5 of us and akgood kitchen for our selves. Super friendly people and excellent food. We cam b y the mountain route from south Icy. and are going back on the Mælifells rout to Blanda river and cross it on the power station bridge and back a mountain route called Kjolur.

We showed up here as one of our guest houses along the ring road and discovered the owner had overbooked the night and lost our booking. Thank heavens that happened as we would have refused to stay. The guesthouse looks like an old out building they converted to a place to stay. There were 5 rooms to one bath ! The kitchen didn’t have enough chairs to seat all the guests and the furniture looked like it came from a run down tag shop. Pieces of carpeting where attached to concrete steps .
It was an awful environment in more ways then one Don’t fall for the picture on the internet. The building is surrounded by equipment .

Although Reykjavik and southern Iceland are quite amazing in their own right, I would absolutely recommend that travelers to Iceland take the time to explore the north as well. Specifically, I would recommend that they stay at this farm house! It's a wonderful area, with spectacular natural views aplenty, and the owners of the farm are friendly, informative, and ensure that your time on the farm is well spent and enjoyed. In the area, there are places for hiking, natural hot tubs, and easy access to facilities for white water rafting and horse riding. At Solvanes, there are sheep, sheep dogs, Icelandic ponies, etc. All in all, ideal place to stay!

If you want to go horse riding or whitewater rafting (Viking Rafting) the next day, this is the place you want to stay. Very nice, clean, calm and the owners are interesting people to have a chat with. Don't safe money by skipping breakfast, it would be a mistake! I haven't taste the dinner (I think you can order it) but to what I heard it must be great.

Eydis and her husband gave us a warm welcome. The rooms, kitchen and bathroom are perfectly clean. The location is amazing. But their hospitality is incredibly kind! On demand they cook a homemade diner, and that was lovely.

This is an excellent country guest house on a working farm. It is the real deal and the folks are warm and welcoming. Even in this very hospitable country, this place stands out....and it's not because of the setting, although this is magnificent....it's because of the warmth of the hosts. thank you, Solvanes.

This was our second trip to Iceland and we have stayed with several farmstays, thru Hey Iceland [formerly Farmholidays]. They have all been very good, Hey Iceland has proven to be an outstanding way to plan our visits. Of all the places we have stayed we have liked Solvanes best so far. We stayed 2 nights. The host couple family makes this place special. Even though Elin is busy with her husband operating the farm we had a great time talking with them and her son. We also enjoyed hiking the property and a tour of calves and lambs while she did a feeding. Our room was great, as was the kitchen, bathrooms and breakfast. There is a lot to do in the area. We tried rafting this time, but we hope to go back and try horse riding and do some more hiking in the area. All of these activities are just a few minutes drive. As a note, even though Solvanes is off the beaten path, the road to Solvanes is very good.

The rooms are basic and functional, but they offer all you need and you share the little kitchen and the bathroom (2 bathrooms for 4 rooms). The beds are very comfortable and you can easily heat the rooms.
Best of all was our dinner with the family, the roasted lamb with vegetables, potatoes, minced meat and rice and salad was delicious. Also the conversation with the host family was great fun, Eydís is a very warm person and gave us some really good advice for our further trip. We were also invited to come and see the feeding of the lambs which was very funny! You should really see that!!
There is also a hot pot near to the farm :-) We highly recommend a stay at this farm!
