Appalled to see how the service has deteriorated in the last 10 years. We visited in 2012 when the property was beautiful, staff courteous and awesome service. - In 2022, we see that the property is not maintained properly. We stayed at Beach house, which was quite inside and there were either no lights / broken lights -- You just pray that we dont step on a frog / snake and the prayers will take you to your room. - They have a modified auto for taking guests to the room. Getting into it and off it was nearly impossible for me because of the height- They don't believe in steps for people. I saw many women struggle and if you are wearing a dress, somehow crawl and get in and get out. They are made of 6 FOOT TALL MEN - LONG LEGS MUST - The best part was as soon as we finish eating, there is a guy asking for payment. Staff looked like they have been picked from a roadside food shop and they are so vigilent about payment. There is no charge to room; every time payment has to be made to some person's account (not Dune eco business number). I refused. Confronted the restaurant manager. I still wonder how many people swam away with their luggage into Bay of Bengal and sought asylum in Sri Lanka to cheat them of a restaurant bill. The rooms are expensive and pre-paid. Very cheap staff. - They have kept some dvd for rent - But u have to pay 100 for each as deposit. Why do they think I will steal it? Even if I steal it, where will I play the disc? I dont have a DVD player and laptops these days dont come with CD drive - Then comes the bunch of interns who are managed by these folks hired from roadside shops. We asked one guy something and he walked away. we did not know what to do. The staff is rude to those interns and the interns take out the frustration on us customers. - Morning tea is free if u go to restaurant. If you order room service you have to pay ONLY CASH. I dont know the logic. No tea maker in the room. - Wash basin leaks and in toilet one bulb was not working - No we did not have the energy to call house keeping - My cycle's brake was not working :) Why charge a premium for this sub standard service ? If you do not trust your customer, how can you be in business? Why this cash and personal account money transfers ? If you charge a premium, as a customer, I expect to be serviced by folk from good institutes and not the roadside shop employees - I pay you a premium to be treated well

- When you enter the place, you definitely feel that you made the right choice because the property is beautiful with lots of trees, plants and birds. It is an expansive area with many "mini houses" spread across the whole space. The property is so big that you will need a "buggy" (mini van) to go to your room. - But that feeling of making the right choice can quickly dissipates once you actually start living and experiencing the place. Yes, you will continue to enjoy the nature but your human interactions with people working in that hotel won't be pleasant. The staff (many of whom are guys just trying to make a living so I do feel sorry for them) is just not trained. Considering the amount we paid (13k for one night in the luxury suit), the service felt like we are living in a 1-star hotel. - We had breakfast and dinner but unfortunately that was also not a great experience. Food quality isn't that great and did I mention that the service was terrible? Oh, I did! The breakfast happens in a messy area and since it is hot this time of the year, everyone is sweaty. The people sweating the most, are of course the staff. The management has given them terrible dress to wear in this weather which absorbs all their sweat. The outcome? The whole dining area smells terribly of sweat. Again, not the fault of poor guys who are just trained and managed very poorly. - They do provide old and rusty bikes to explore their campus but drive them at your own risk! The brakes don't really work and because the "roads" are broken, you will have to be extra careful. - Beach is also not very well maintained. Moreover, you have to walk a bit to actually reach to the shore and enjoy the vast ocean. I am sure there are better places in pondi to enjoy the ocean. They made a beach bar long time ago but of course it is non-functional. There is also a nice AC dining area but that was also closed for renovation. - In any case, if you don't care at all about the service and just want to experience few days in quiet nature, this may turn out to be the right place for you. If you do decide to go with it, my recommendation would be to not spend more than 6k or 7k a night. It really isn't worth more than that. It definitely has great potential if they improve the quality of the service and train their staff better.

We needed a quick break at a place with a beach nearby as we wanted to take our pets to a beach. Dune turned out to be an excellent choice! The place has a quaint and rustic feel. Plenty of space to walk around. The beach is literally a stone's throw away from the cottages. The staff is extremely helpful. When we mentioned our vegan diet requirements, the chef and the restaurant staff went out of their way to ensure we got delicious vegan meals. The housekeeping staff was very prompt and helpful as well. Thank you, Dune staff! We will definitely visit again.

Just returned from a one day stat at Dune Pondy. The beach is a fabulous stretch, without clutter and crowd , a plus point. May I say, the only plus point. Reservations: rude, demanding 100% of tariff in advance. Repeat rude. Ordered a beer. One guy brings the beer another holds a card swipe machine. Any cost incurred to be paid immediately. Unprecedented. Tarif :Rs 8000. No value for money. Service: my friends was hvg breakfast and also chatting w me. A waiter came and forcibly cleared friend’s plate and cutlery. Advice. Avoid this place.

Complete disaster. To get a feel for what u r getting just ask them to send a picture of their "buggy" for transport around the hotel. Flies galore.we were a group of 15 people and at least 5 to 8 changed rooms. Then original build and plan was probably awesome but it's now terrible.

Huge area to cycle/walk around and truly eco. We stayed in baywatch 4. Slightly raised hut! A truly different experience. However the beach visibility is spoiled by plants. Extremely polite staff! Food options could have been a little more. Special thanks to Mr.Ramesh for making the booking experience and the stay very pleasant. Kitchen and dining areas need to be staffed adequately.

We came to know through search in internet.. Booking process was simple and timely response . Courteous staff, food was good , stay comfort was very good Feedback I stayed in wooden cottage 2 , where the front entrance may have one or two steps as the current hhigeight of thinnai is bit high which elder and differently abled persons will find difficult Facilities and other maps of the inside locations can be printed and kept in rooms, including phone numbers Intercom facility can be provided My over all rating for this stay is very good

The East Coast Road (ECR) from Chennai, leading to Mahabalipuram in particular and Pondy, are dotted with Hotels and Resorts. These hotels, many of whom of the 5 Star variety, mostly have the same look and feel and offer the same sterile luxury experience. Which is where The Dune, situated closer to Pondy, is significantly different from all others. The Dune is on a 40 acre plot of land that was once barren but has been lovingly reforested over the years with several plants, trees and shrubs. Minimal manicured lawns, dense foliage, all mud pathways and very uniquely crafted villas and rooms, create The Dune's distinct identity. The rooms are crafted on the lines of various kinds of traditional Indian houses with coloured ('red oxide' like finish) cement flooring and panels/pictures that give a genuine local flavour. Each room offers a different experience. Some rooms, notably those close to the beach do not have AC. The others have AC and well equipped baths but none of the rooms offer Television or WiFi and definitely all of them have a distinct non hotel look. The rooms are also quirky and may not be suited to those used to traditional hotel rooms. It must be mentioned that except for the Dome House, no room is friendly to senior citizens. More attention needs to be paid to ergonomics - the sofa in our Garden Suite 1 room should have been higher and ought to have provided adequate support to the back. The Fun restaurant is centrally located, non air conditioned but very atmospheric and offers quality food that does not burn a hole in one's pocket. However, the variety in the menu is now significantly scaled down and one looks forward to the very eclectic and interesting menu coming back in the post pandemic period. We hope that happens sooner than later. This Resort takes its Eco tag seriously. Drinking Water is offered in Glass Bottles with a refilling station at the restaurant. Produce from the in-house organic farms is used in the food served at the restaurant and none of the public spaces is air conditioned. My family and I have been visiting this place for close to two decades now. We love the fact that rooms are spread out and even when the resort is full, we get the feeling of abundant space and solitude. The beach is beautiful and seems like a private space. Evening lighting in public spaces is subtle and enhances the mystery of the place. The mud pathways, fringed by green canopy, gives a very authentic feel of nature trails. The 'infinity style' swimming pool looks beautiful although I havent used it myself. The Dune is for those who value a different experience, one close to nature and spending time outdoors. My wife and I have travelled across continents and The Dune rivals many of the fine boutique places where we have stayed in distant lands. To us, the Dune is a genuine retreat close to nature with abundant spaces and also a refreshing break from the monotony of plastic hotel offerings. But as I said, The Dune is for the discerning traveller and those who desire a typical hotel experience should definitely stay away.

We were a family of 3 who stayed at the flex house during a weekend in Oct 2021. I should say that we had a very satisfying experience at the Dune. Rooms: Rooms are constructed with a great artistic touch with mild lighting and natural ventilation. I kept wondering to myself on the sense of taste the architects should have had to come up with such a concept based accommodation. I liked every bit of the room interiors from the washroom mirror to the long benches to the comfortable wooden chairs. A normal wooden chair was so comfortable due to the slight curvature on the shoulder & seat areas with extended arm rests. The bathroom was very clean & dry and the shower had enough pressure and temperature to get you that divine experience. :-) Food: We ordered lunch & dinner to our room and the food tasted yummy and may be its organic as well as they claim. The taste & freshness was good and I was impressed with their attention to details. They wrap every dish and provide good accompaniments like raita, cheese, pappad, pickle, etc. depending on the mains that we order. Water refill was unlimited and the house keeping guys kept bringing us water 24*7. Their chicken dum briyani, organic curd rice, phulka, pepper chicken gravy were some of the dishes which was out of the world :-) The restaurant during the evening looks so beautiful with candle lights and if you travel as a couple you should enjoy dining in the restaurant for one of the dinner sessions. The morning breakfast was a let down though with average dishes and way too crowded. Staff: The house keeping and restaurant guys were quick and prompt to all our needs. The reception guys could be more warm and cordial and explain about the property a bit in detail and collect feedback during checkout. Beach access and pool access was available and we did use the beach extensively for our long walks. Overall the property had a different theme and concept compared to the rest of the resorts around that place and they managed to keep up the standards. The one thing that irked me was that they were no covid checks at the entry, not even the basic temperature check and you don't see much of the mask culture with the staff nor residents. We could spot sanitizer only at the dine in area. May be that safety measure could be stepped up. Overall a breath taking stay experience with good staff and great food :-)
