It’s an oldish hotel in a good position for the beach and facilities of Los Cristianos. It’s got a decent sized pool but it’s rather shallow for swimming at one end. There is also a good kids pool. Brolly numbers are insufficient. There is no pool heating, making it a little “fresh” for winter swimming. They have a range of pool rules, completely ignored by many clients and equally tolerated by the bored looking pool attendant.

There are a wide range of room types, but only Premium rooms have air conditioning. They have irritating additional charges for some essentials eg a room safe. Amazingly, there are no fridges in the rooms...unless you pay extra - ridiculous. Can’t even keep a bottle of water cool! We found the Premium room itself clean and spacious (top floors), but the lighting was poor, especially in the bathroom. For example there is a shaving mirror, but no nearby light so it’s actually difficult to use. The shower screen fitted badly over the bath, so every shower meant a floor flood. The “double” bed was in fact two singles pushed together, with single sheets fitted on each. The beds are on castors so have a bizarre habit of sliding around on the floor. The balcony is tiny. Insufficient room for two chairs.

Continental breakfast is reasonable, but their attempt at a British Cooked breakfast is very disappointing. They can manage a fried egg, but the sausages are horrid - tasteless “mush” and what they describe as bacon isn’t anything like we have ever been served in the UK. It was simply awful. We did also sample dinner one night and found it a bit better than breakfast, but frankly they would do better reducing the choice of food and increasing the quality of what they serve.

We sampled the bar once, in the evening. One barman doing his best, faced with a long line of people waiting to be served. Not great. The bar itself was characterless, hot and stuffy.

The old and infirm are well catered for at this hotel.

As per a lot of the reviews here you need to know what you are getting for the price you are paying, always check the hotel website and third party ones may not have the full information.

We went with an Xtra Room for 2 weeks over Christmas which was perfect for the money and I looked for a room on the town side for sunset and sea view over the town. Room was bright, clean, solid king-size bed, mini fridge, kettle plus tea/coffee/sugar/milk, iron board, settee, air-con, hair dryer, dressing gown, toiletries, balcony with table and 2 chairs.

Also safe at €3 per day and a refundable deposit of €20 on pool towel (although never had to give any money).

Location of the hotel is great, couple minutes to the 10km waterfront promenade and 10-15 mins from centre of Los Christianos. Central bus station is 5mins away with regular airport buses taking ~20mins and €3.20.

We stayed as B&B (would not stay in any hotel AI) which was standard hotel fare and was a full selection of fruit, cereal, bread, meat, cheese and fry up every morning. Orange juice tended to run out quickly but there were other types.

Apart from breakfast we did not eat in the hotel so can't comment, either went out for lunch or brought sandwich back after a morning walk.

Seen the entertainment 2 nights and was standard for a hotel.

Pool was big and clean, with a separate kid paddling pool. Not many in the main pool except kids as it was cold. There were also daily activities around the pool.
There is a separate sun terrace that tended to be adults only.

One of the reasons for staying in Los Christianos is the quieter side of a holiday and the good choice of restaurants in the town.

All in all the hotel is good value for money, clean and staff were all helpful.

Some recommendations………..
Rico’s for the best seafood paella but get there early for selection, Oro di Napoli for pizza, Akustito for atmosphere and food, El Burgado for steak, further on the beach is La Barca for view and seafood.
Lunch in “Shake, Latte and Roll” behind the hotel.
Devon Arms for sport, Cafe 5 for people watching, Hideaway for quiet local bar.

We have just returned from a week's all inclusive stay at the Sol Arona. There were lots of cockroaches around the pool area, understood that this cannot be helped but have not seen them in other hotels we have stayed in Tenerife. Check in took an exceptionally long time with lots of queues. Food was average, we found it to be repetitive each day so after half way through the holiday we went out to eat for a nice change. The grill area serving steak and fish was nice. Desserts were lovely. The buffet staff work so hard in that hotel to ensure that tables were cleaned after each guest, the lady with short hair was so hard working! Drinks selection was good, lovely big measures if spirits but the local beer was poor, Heineken was the premium beer but had to pay extra. No bottled water this was an extra charge so water can only be accessed by a slow machine. Entertainment in the evening was great, live singers who sing a mix of spanish and english music. Bar staff would often clock you waiting for a drink and then go round the back or continue cleaning which we found not to be attentive. I was bitten by bed bugs therefore the beds should be replaced! Rooms did not have air conditioning but as we went in mid October we didn't need it but could imagine it is unbarebale in the summer! Wifi is good throughout the hotel and my partner loved the 1 euro massage chair! Safe hire was cheap. We understood there were air con on the top floors of the hotel. If you are a sun-bed reserver you need to be waiting to put towels down at around 8am, otherwise you were not getting a bed by the pool. Lots of beds on the terrace or at the back shaded area by the kids play area. It was reassuring that all guests are to wear masks throughout the hotel, food buffet and outside areas unless eating, drinking, in the pool or on a sunlounger. The hotel's location is about a 5 minute walk to the nearest beach and there is a Siam Park bus stop right outside. All smokers now have to smoke in designated smoking areas in the day, but this seemed to drop off in the evenings where there were lots of people smoking at their tables and for non-smokers and families this was uncomortable and not a nice touch when fag ends are left on the floor! Lifts were quick and lots of them! Rooms were clean but desperately need refurbishing! All in all we had a good time at this hotel, but unfortunately will not return.

Excellent position in close vicinity to the beach and bars but also in a nice quiet position with lovely bay or mountain views. The rooms were lovely and clean and in good condition, the all inclusive offerings were wonderful, any drink combination you wanted (just ask!) or help yourself to soft drinks, chilled water, ice, red/white/rose wine, sangria, beers. Food choice was excellent with choices of fresh meats and fish to be cooked fresh to your liking plus many other options with plenty of vegetables and salads. If you couldn't find something amongst that lot, I really worry about what you eat!!! Staff were perfectly nice. The pool area was clean and pleasant, pool was cold but I am rubbish at getting in pools anyway! Plenty of people were using it plus you need it that way when it's getting a bit hot. Checked in at 11.30am and our room was unexpectantly ready! We were also a late checkout and there was free luggage storage and use of showers etc. We often walked down to the front (5 minute walk) and had the odd bar drink, walked around Los Cristianos's shops, all along the front to Playa de las Americas, all easily doable. We would walk to America's of an evening and grab a taxi back which was less than £7. Taxi from the airport is so easy, just walk up to the taxi rank and they sort the next one out for you, fixed rate of €28 and at the hotel in 15 minutes! I will definitely return :-)

This hotel is all about location. We stayed on the top floor in a superior room, these rooms are now in serious need of an upgrade, some of the floor tiles were very loose and the balcony doors were really loose, on our first nights stay there was really strong winds and the door constantly rattled in its frame so we had no sleep all night. The bathroom had a really bad smell, reception did send a technician to look at it but after a day the smell came back. The rooms were kept spotlessly clean and bedding changed regular with towels being changed when requested. The bed was really firm, and I had to request a mattress topper from reception, this made it a little more bearable but was really glad to get back to my own bed.

The hotel needs to look into its policy of taking group bookings we were woke up on a few nights by a very large group of girls all staying on the same floor as us playing music, banging doors and shouting down corridors. Security did deal with the problem very well though.

Breakfast was good with plenty of choice.

Grounds kept clean and tidy.

All in all this is a good 3* hotel, we would return to the hotel for the right price, and would recommend to anyone looking for a bed and breakfast stay.

Dear martynmalone, Thank you for taking your valuable time, sharing this detailed review with the rest of the members of Tripadvisor. We truly regret if your stay with us did not meet your expectations. We would like to guarantee you that this was not our intention in any way to give you this perception. In references to the pool, the hotel do not provide heated pool and the safe is not include, in which it is in the hotel web description, at the same time that we inform the rooms type "Xtra, Family and Superior" are spacious, simply decorated in pale colors. All of them provide all kettle, minibar (*), air-conditioning and a Dreamax bed specially designed by Flex for Meliá Hotels International to ensure healthy and restful sleep. We would like to inform that the buffet restaurant is permanent supervised by the Management Team while the restaurant is open, in which the buffet receive travel agencies representatives every day and at the end of the meal they do an internal quality questionnaire. We have to inform that all the valuations has excellent scores. Otherwise, our kitchen is always open to make any guest requirements and we are always focused on our guest full satisfaction, for that a team of managers is always available in order to resolve any issues if informed during the stay. we always do our best to provide our guests with unique experiences and we are sorry that in your case we did not succeed in this proposal. We sincerely hope that this unfortunate experience will not deter you from returning to Sol Arona Tenerife. Kind regards, Guest Experience

Didn’t expect too much from this Hotel to be honest as we’d opted for a pretty cheap deal BUT it far exceeded expectations and then some!
The Hotel was 25mins from airport and is in a great location close to all amenities in Los Cristianos and a 3/4minute walk to the beach (up hill on the way back but not stupidly steep). About a 35mins steady stroll/walk into Playa Las Americas too.
Breakfast was delicious with lots of choice and all tastes catered for. The Pool was cleaned methodically every morning and a great size along with a smaller childrens pool. The pool area was very pleasant in general, plenty of Parasols and Sunbeds with a Lifeguard on duty daily. The Bar area outside was lovely and although they do offer all inclusive, we chose just B&B so we did buy a few drinks which were fairly priced (€2.50 Coffee, €2.50 Slush, €3 Sangria and €5 Cocktails or Beer) We also did take a few cold drinks/snacks to the pool some days and this wasn’t an issue neither.
The Reception staff, Cleaners and Restaurant/Bar staff were all so friendly and couldn’t do enough. The hotel lounge area is large and welcoming and the rooms themselves albeit a little dated are perfectly livable. Shower really powerful (just what was needed after a hot day), TV, Balcony, Beds and plenty of storage plus a hairdryer, handwash, shower gel and toiletries in the room. Towels changed daily if required and cleaners were very thorough. Our kids too old for the kids club etc but we noticed they were occupying the children everyday and Mini Disco/entertainment on every evening in the downstairs lounge bar.
Our flight wasn’t due until late so we arranged to keep our room on until 6pm for €30 which was much cheaper than we have paid at other hotels.
Sanitiser was all over the hotel and most staff still wearing masks.
Bus stop just outside hotel for all the free buses to the shopping centres, Siam Park etc and not far at all to the shops if you needed anything. We didn’t hire a car this time but the hotel has a secure car park of this is something you want to do and they do hire out Bicycles and Mobility Scooters.
A definate ‘will visit again’ from us!

Thankyou to all at Sol Arona Tenerife for a great holiday!

The hotel wasn't the worse I have stayed in but there is still room for improvement.

On arrival at the hotel I was shown to a room that was probably the grimiest room in the whole of the hotel. It had floral curtains and furnishings and the bedroom and bathroom was awful too. It looks like it has not been updated since the hotel was built. As a solo traveller I spent way over £633 for my 9 night stay for flight and accommodation so I was expecting a lot better.

I went down to reception and they said I could upgrade and she gave me two key fobs to look at superior and Xtra room. The Superior was another €180 and although a lot better (neutral furnishings) it def was not worth the extra money. The Xtra room (there top of the range) was not much improvement on the Superior and was even more expensive. I returned to reception and was going to pay for the Superior because I had no choice, the other room I would have cried the whole time I was there. When I went to get my suitcase, luckily I spotted a room that was the same level as mine and had neutral furnishings and looked some how cleaner and better lighting. I went to reception and asked for that one but that one was being held for someone else. They could offer me one that was just like that one so I moved into that room. Throughout my stay every time I passed down the corridors I passed by rooms that were so much nicer that the one I was originally allocated.

The food was of good quality and I particularly liked the breakfast.

Entertainment was actually really good and the day activities were super too and a lot of fitness activities. The gym was also very good, limited on weights but you could more than manage and adjust your workout accordingly. Music was also good in the gym.

Location wise wasn't bad but it was a bit drab. I think if I came to Tenerife again I'm stay up in Costa Adeje....very classy!

Maid service was ok, but they do the bare minimum. I am very tidy though so the room didn't need a lot done, but the maids do need to use some initiative, if there is an empty wine bottle or wine glasses from the night before, take them away. Also I spilt some prosecco on the side and they didn't even wipe this down.

I had a great holiday and a lot of staff couldn't do enough for you. They also helped with changing up money and also getting bikes delivered from a company up the road.

Final Note to the Melia Group: this hotel really does let you down as I have seen a lot of your other hotels and they are second to none. Spend some money on the hotel and standardise decor throughout. A facelift doesn't have to cost a lot and will make a lot of your guests really happy. The upgrade price was truly unacceptable and I could have got a 4/5 star hotel for the additional cost. Again this def needs addressing.

From the minute we stepped foot in the place we were treated badly. We arrived at 11pm at night with a 9 year old and a 3 year old. We were tired and just wanted to get to bed, but were told we couldn't check in as we didnt have the credit card in which the booking was made on. This was completely impossible as we booked through a travel agent. We tried to explain this to the young man on reception but he just kept shrugging his shoulders saying it wasn't his problem. My husband showed the booking confirmation from our travel agent, bank statement, his passport and offered his own Credit Card in case any extra charges needed to be charged to an account. So we had to pay for the 3 nights again in cash in order to stay there. The kids were crying, it was a complete nightmare.

We were told by the young arrogant receptionist, who kept kissing his teeth as he spoke, that If we didnt pay again then we would simply be sleeping on the street.

When we got to the room we were even more disappointed. The bathroom was grubby, the beds were old, there wasn't even a light on the balcony, only two flimsy plastic chairs (no table).

We woke up the next morning,we got in contact with our travel agent and he got the second payment we made back for us by lunchtime. Just to clarify our travel agent had booked through Sol Melia before and in over 30 years in the industry had never experienced anything as absurd.

We had breakfast there!! It was cold, staff were miserable. Only saviour was a waitress with buns in her hair and an older stout waiter.... we got a smile off them!

Waiting in reception on the last morning I heard some shouting. I looked over and a girl receptionist getting very annoyed with a much older woman. The woman was quite frail and getting shouted at by this girl was not acceptable. The old lady was in a panic as she was worried about missing her flight and the receptionist wouldn't assist her to ring a taxi.

The last thing that we could only laugh at. My husband rang reception to ask for an iron. €30 payent and a €20 deposit! No thank you! (Ironing boards and irons in photos of rooms on website)

We are not usually ones to complain but this terrible experience definitely needed to be shared to warn other people what they are walking in to.

We would never ever return here even if it was free.

The company will now write "we are sorry the hotel did not meet your expectations" etc... etc... no point apologising now! Our travel agent has lodged an official complain with Sol Melia and to date all they have said is that they do not know why this happened.

Our growing concern is that a family who have saved all year to come away and enjoy themselves will turn up and be told they can either pay again or sleep on the streets as some families do not have the ability to just simply pay again and claim the money back.

One last thing our travel agent has booked holidays for us before and has never come across this problem, this was not there doing. We will now go out of our way to make sure as many people as possible get to see this feedback.

Ok let me start with the positives as there are not many. The restaurant staff, cleaning staff and bar staff are a credit to this hotel working extremely hard in very bad conditions. Shout out to barman Santi who was lovely even when having to deal with some very unpleasant and rude people. It is because of these staff I gave a 2 rating and not a zero.
Now on to the rest of the hotel. On arrival it was nice but a slow check in. Room was ok we were on the 9th floor 906 with air con. Some nice touches with toiletries and flip flops but it doesn’t make up for the fact it’s outdated and needs an overhaul. First few days were ok for breakfast and sunbeds no queues and no bed holding. Then a lot of people arrived for half term and the early morning bed reservation started and the 20 min queue for breakfast. Oh and the queue for the lifts. As more people arrived the place got worse very hard to get a table at night where the entertainment was. We were better off in doors anyways because the outside area was full of cockroaches at night. One evening a entertainer singing had to stop as parents were letting their kids run amuck, climb and run on the stage.
Half way through our 9 night stays I was getting into bed and there was a cockroach and maggots in the bed. Husband went to reception and they sent a man with a cloth and spray up which was no good we had already got rid of cockroach. Went back down to reception to ask for clean bed cover as no way was I sleeping in them he sent the man back up with 3 sheets for a single bed by this time it was 1 in the morning so I just stripped the bed and got on with it. The next morning I went into the Guest Experience office to report what happened and to make sure our room would get a deep clean, the first thing the manager asked was had I put it on social media and no apology not very professional in my opinion. The room was cleaned but by then I just could not wait to leave the place. I have never look forward to getting home from holiday but was happy to leave Sol Arona. I really expected more from a Melia hotel.

Hiya, we did not have superior rooms. I preferred to book two double rooms instead an appartment or superior rooms. So I am not able to answer you to this question. I am sorry
