Detailed Reviews
We were so happy to find a two bedroom apartment in his motel for our family of 5 during the school holidays. It's only a 30 minutes drive to the amazing Kai Iwi Lakes and about an hour to the Tane Mahuta kauri tree! The booking process was easy and the receptionist very lovely and helpful.
Sadly the room quality was not very high - very dated interiors, bathroom sink still has two taps, the armchairs in the lounge were old and stained, beds small and not very comfy, old stained carpets, very few electric sockets. Overall a bit depressing outlook. Kept average clean, I think it would be a good idea to give those dining chairs a bit of a wet wipe clean as they are just covered in fly spots! The rest of the surfaces were clean though and we got fresh towels and toiletries each day, which was lovely! The mobile phone reception was very poor in the room, but you get a free wifi access.
Overall it has a great location, but it's not a very high standard and we probably wouldn't return for a family stay again. Hope the financial climate for hospitality improves and the rooms get an update at some point - it's long overdue I think.

The motel might have had 4 stars in the 70s but surely not any more!
$199 for one night for a two bedroom unit. Wallpaper peeling off the bathroom walls, old shower with a grotty curtain. No plug in bathroom sink. Lights over bedroom mirrors didn’t work, microwave and heater didn’t work either. Not enough bedside tables and no bedside lamps.
Poor value compared with other places we stayed at on our trip north. Beds comfortable enough and good towels.
Needs a revamp desperately!

Greeted by nice staff, although they were a bit behind schedule but got to check in straight away. Pool was quite dirty so didn’t swim in it (3/10).
Super king sized bed that was rock hard (1/10)
Pillows very uncomfortable (2/10)
Rooms very clean and well furnished (7/10)
Tvs in each room (bedroom tv was ancient box tv with 3 channels). Nice clean carpet. Small kitchenette. 2 hobs for cooking + microwave. Very impressive bathtub (10/10) was huge and very deep spa bath (room for one comfortably) but not great water pressure (6/10). All in all was an average motel. Quiet enough. Fine for a quick stay. I rate the whole motel a 4/10.

I was driving down to Rotorua from the northlands on vacation. Great location, easy to enter and exit, close to the downtown area. The rooms were very clean, and spacious. No hotplate or stove but everything else you need including a microwave, fridge, toasters and french press coffee maker.
Parking was easy, right in front of your room. The staff was friendly and helpful, taking you right to your room and showing you how everything works.
Fast internet, which as a digital nomad is something I always look for. Great place to stay if you are in Dargaville.

Paid $150 for a substandard room. Furniture was old and uncomfortable with paint peeling off the dining room chairs The only positive was the bed was great. There was next to no heating. Wouldn't of minded it so much if it was priced accordingly. It was the final night of a 2 week trip all over the country and we got much better for similar money in most places.

I stayed at Hobsons for 5 nights this week and they would have to be the most friendly accommodating people I have met in a long time. The whole place is sparkling clean and nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. It is modern and for a very small town has a lot too offer. Will be back very soon.

There's nothing pretentious about this motel, just very comfortable, well-situated and all you would want for an enjoyable night's rest. Our hosts were most obliging and friendly. Good-sized room, very comfortable bed and all the facilities needed for a short stay.

Clean and spacious, but a little dated. Clean and well maintained. 20+ rooms, so more likely to have vacancies at busy times. Possibly a little overpriced. Heated with portable panel heater (which was adequate). TV screen not very large, but adequate. Room cleaned daily.

We has a pleasant one-night stay after visiting the Kauri Forest. . The room was well equipped, clean, and quiet. A short walk to the Woolworths for groceries as well as a take-away. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Would happily stay again.
