My husband and I stayed at Generations the end of January. We wanted to stay at El Dorado, but for $1k less we could stay at the neighboring and connected property, Generations, with an oceanfront room so that seemed like a no brainer. Anyone who stays at Generations and is over 18 can use all the amenities/restaurants at El Dorado Royal. Generations room and bathroom were large. The balcony overlooking the ocean was wonderful. Maintenance of these rooms is a struggle though. Safety bolt for use when you are in the room never worked. We just used the latch at the top of the door. Bathroom shower had a wand head and a rainfall showerhead. We had to have maintenance come up and fix the rainfall shower head because it didn’t work upon arrival. The seal in our slider door was missing completely upon arrival. Large ¼-1/2 gaps existed in between the door and glass so noise couldn’t be kept out of the room. This is a problem when most nights out the week there is a wedding somewhere on site with very loud music blaring. Not that big of deal if you can seal off your door, but we never could. Maintenance came up and replaced the vertical seal, but not the horizontal. They actually stuffed paper towels in the horizontal gap between glass and door frame. The last night we were there the winds picked up and we got to sleep with ear plugs and white noise just trying to drown out the loud whistling noise our sliding glass door made. While we appreciated the large room and view, not sure this was really as great of deal as we thought it would be. We didn’t do much on the Generations property. Most days we did the 10-12 minute walk over to El Dorado Royal. The path connecting the properties goes right along the ocean and is beautiful. We are walkers, so we loved this. Most resorts don’t have such a lengthy path, so we actually found this a wonderful perk. There are three resorts that all connect, so honestly there are probably miles of paths if you wanted to get your steps in. We typically just chose to walk the ocean front path a few times a day. There are also golf cart shuttles 3 times an hour that will take you to the connecting resorts as well. No real entertainment for adults at Generations. Everything is geared towards younger kids. We had left our 13 & 15 year olds at home with the grandparents, but knew that they would have been bored here. However, had they been 6 & 8 they would have loved it. We often consulted the El Dorado App to see what activities were going on where and when. It was nice to be able to toggle between the El Dorado location and Generations location to see what was going on and when. Generations location would state if the activity was either for children or adults, but we consistently found that to be inaccurate. The most hilarious inaccuracy was when my husband showed up for Beer Pong for Adults to discover that once again they’d retrofitted this activity for kids, but didn’t change the name which was really weird. Make sure you check out the foam party at El Dorado while you're there. It's only once a week at the main pool and was definitely memorable. We did like that it was never hard to get a bali bed by the ocean pretty much any day we were there. The bali beds cost extra at El Dorado, but are free at Generations. The mattresses are comfy and they wrap them daily in fresh sheets which is so nice. Make sure you apply sunblock, because you could totally fall asleep in these beds! Probably our favorite thing was the food. Not even once did we have a poor food experience. There are 18 restaurant options between these 3 resorts. We tried La isla, D’Italia Casitas, Rincon Mexicano, Spot, Cabana Pizzeria, Health Bar, Chef Market, Kampai, Habb, Palms and Wine Kitchen. All were excellent with wonderful service. Breakfast at Palms and dinner at Wine Kitchen were our favorite. Weddings – wow. Just wow. So many weddings everywhere. My husband and I have traveled to many all inclusives all over the globe and this one takes the cake when it comes to weddings. So much so that it became kind of awkward if you weren’t there for a wedding. Almost every night of our stay there was a wedding on the property with a reception going until 11pm when they cut the loud music. If I had been traveling with young children this would have probably driven me crazy, because you can’t drown out the music in your room. So if I was trying to get a 5 and 3 year old to bed every night I don’t know what I would have done. However, if you were thinking of a place to book a wedding it sure seems like this place knows how to do it! Twice we even watched the fireworks set off for these weddings from the balcony of our room. Again, fun for us, but man if I had young kids this would have driven me crazy. Overall interesting place, just don’t think we’d do it again. Note to whoever created your App - please get rid of the virtual map. It's not a real map, it's a camera that you just point in a certain direction and it tells you how many meters until you reach a specific restaurant or venue. Problem is that you'll start walking down dead-end paths. This was the worst feature I've ever seen on an app and it should just be deleted if you can't do it right. When they offer you a paper map at the very beginning grab two! You'll need it!…
Relaxing vacation with my wife. What's not to like when you're laying on the beach and tropical drinks magically appear. Service was great and added perk to be able to explore and use the other amenities at the sister resorts. All within walking distance. Shout out to the employees who made our stay so enjoyable... Angel, David, Anna, and Alfonzo!!
Very happy with the service! Food was good. Kids were handled well by the staff. Wish that the beach were bigger without rocks. Luiz, Maritza, Eduardo, David, Alfredo, and Claudia did a great job every day!
We had a great time with the Generations team! Luiz and Maritza were very hospitable. Luiz even came to pick us up after our dinner in the rain. Great food and experience. Alfredo was a great server! Claudia was wonderful with our kids. Five stars!

We just recently returned home from our vacation in Mexico. We have been long-time with Exotic Travelers . We have always enjoyed our annual visit to Exotic Resorts up until this recent visit. To say that we were disappointed is an understatement. This year, we decided to try out Generations Riviera Maya for something different. Well, I can honestly say that it is the first time that we were looking forward to leaving and going home. Our experience at this resort did not live up to the standard we are used to with Exotic -both the suite and the service. The suite that we were assigned was obviously in need of upgrades. The plaster around the door was falling off in pieces, the hot water was coming down as a trickle in the sink even with the tap fully open. There was this weird sand like powder and little bugs appearing on the countertops consistently even though we kept wiping them all the time. Thick dust could be seen everywhere on higher surface and the housekeeping left to be desired. The door of the fridge was filthy and never wiped the whole time we were there. A few units further down from our swim-up (3rd floor) was missing a safety railing. (please see all photos attached). The registration at the front desk was deplorable – there was only one staff to offer service and even though the start of our vacation had been delayed by a couple of days due to flight issues, we had to wait to get in our room. (BTW- we still had to pay for those 2 days). The whole process felt rushed like there were more important things going on than our check in. We never did get our pillows and aroma selected at registration during our vacation. We discussed the issue of the Gala Dinner and the extreme allergy to shellfish. They assured us that it was taken care of. Flash forward to the dinner, we arrived there and there was a lot of confusion about where to seat us. When the main meal was served, I was brought a plate with beef and chicken. Obviously being nervous about cross contamination, we asked the waiter about it and his answer was “I am fairly certain that it's safe”. That really doesn’t inspire confidence. We decided to leave without eating. The next day, we ordered room service and were asked about food allergies. Again we reiterated the shellfish allergy. The burgers that were delivered to our room were covered in shrimp on top. They offered to replace them but at this point we weren’t confident that the next order would not be cross contaminated. The whole experience during this visit left us feeling like being a member is not valued anymore. We can honestly say that if this had been our first experience, we would not have entertained the thought of purchasing a membership. We were directed to contact Membership Services, which we did -3 separate emails, no responses.…
On our first night, Eddie was eager to make everyone feel comfortable and to make sure all we needed was there, he was polite, genuinely happy to help us get settled in. We had, for the next 6 days, AMAZING service from Luna and Stephanie. They went over and above to meet any needs we had, always with a smile and friendly conversation. We always felt at ease with every request or with just a friendly conversation. They made my vacation the best one I've ever had. We had an amazing guy serve us at the beach, Erbie. He always had a smile and was always genuinely happy to see us, even off the beach around the resort. He was amazing in his service and friendliness. In closing, everyone was stellar, always there with a friendly, genuine smile, willing to take on us crazy Canadians. Best holiday ever for me! Thank you to you all!…
We arrived at your hotel and were greeted by our very friendly butler Eddie. He made sure we got settled in our rooms and that everything was as we had ordered. We also had two other butlers named Luna and Stephanie. They were friendly, informative and made our 7 day stay absolutely incredible. We had a very funny and friendly beach butler named Erbie. He made sure to have Bali bed ready and always eager to give the best service. At the restaurant and pool bar Rapheal kept us laughing and having a good time. During the day Axel and (I am sorry I can't remember the girl's name) kept my sister and I busy with the activities around the pool. They were very friendly and entertaining. The food was amazing. The staff was amazing. Best vacation ever.
I went with my family, we liled the hotel a lot, it has a very large pool, the food is very good, they have many activities for kids and they have a kids club, the sea is not the best but the view is beautiful, the staff is very friendly especially Eder and Israel thanks AMIGOS see you soon. Rock star.
We had a wonderful start to the New Year at Generations!! The service was fantastic, thanks to Eddie, Luiz, and Gerardo. We enjoyed the spa, and the many restaurants onsite, The Palms waterfront cafe was especially good. We can’t wait to go back!
