Rosebay is in a great location, five minutes from the beach with a wonderful promenade surrounded by restaurants and shops. Most restaurants provide free sun loungers as long as you buy your drinks or a meal, all at very reasonable prices.
There is an excellent restaurant, Lolo's, directly opposite the hotel, and a handy little supermarket next door.
BUT, there is two problems that we cannot ignore. Many of the guests either go to the pool area in the middle of the night or wake up super early to ”reserve” the sunbeds. When breakfast starts at 7.30 am almost all the sunbeds were reserved 6 of 7 days of our stay. So we only had one day by the hotel pool (and we are not people who sleep in). And the area is not made for much more beds than there already are so we really recommend that the hotel starts with a ”no reservation policy”. The towels just laid there for hours and no one used them, such a waste. On our one pool day we saw a woman (with help from the staff) take away a hotel towel from a sunbed that had not been used for at least an hour. A while later the people that previously was using the bed got back and there actually was a huge fight over this. So, a ”no reservation policy” is a must here.
And a second thing that unfortunatley drags down the score is the noice from the airplanes that lands on the airport that is very close by. We read that the planes does not land at night, but they do. And it is extremley loud. You have to be a very very heavy sleeper to not notice the sound. Even with earplugs (that the hotel does not provide) we woke up several times a night. This we imagine goes for all the hotels in this area tho.
All and all a good hotel (we really liked the staff!) but som adjustments is recuired regarding pool area and sound profing.
We went half board and the evening food menu (5 course) gave excellent choices and was great quality. There are plenty of options if you didn’t wish to eat in the hotel but it took away the stress of finding somewhere to eat each evening.
The hotel is also on the edge of the main resort which we liked because it was quieter. There were plenty of sunbeds and seating around the pool.
The island had some stunning views most of which you could get to by the local buses and we didn’t feel the need to pay for an expensive “tour”.
7 days would be enough to explore the island and still have pool / beach time.
The breakfast was a buffet, with the usual options, we had pastries and fruit which were great.
Our room overlooked the swimming pool which looked gorgeous at night, we had a lovely big balcony too.
The distance to the beach was about 40 seconds which was amazing as we thought it would be a bit of a trek.
There were a couple of negatives, one being the fact that you are directly under the flight path, and there are a lot of planes coming in and out, some really late at night, but obviously there's nothing the hotel can do about this.
The second negative was that although there were signs on all the parasols asking people not to reserve sunbeds, they still did this every day - we only got to sit by the pool on our last day and that was only because lots of people had gone home and we had a late flight - again this isn't the hotel's fault, they've done what they can.
Last little moan was because our flight wasn't until 11pm I'd asked if we were able to use a shower and get changed somewhere as we were going to be around the pool all day. We were told these facilities would be available, but as it turns out it was an outdoor shower by the pool and you had to dry your hair in the lobby.
All that said, we had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.
"Close to beach, and excellent choice of restaurants close by. If you have mobility issues, ask for a one-floor room. Our room had 2 floors."Read full review
