I can not fault this hotel. It was immaculate and spotless throughout from the rooms to the gardens and pool area. Great and helpful staff including Jean pierre who was a fountain of knowledge. Easy transport links to all the main tourist hotspots including local buses or you can do some lovely walks away from the masses. We had a large room with large balcony and the bathroom which although small does not matter (as this seems to be a problem for some other reviewers) as I don't spend much time in there! Would definitely come back.
Feels like ive stayed in very different hotel after reading the reviews but anyway. My stay in in Santorini was splited into 2 parts and stsyed in 2 different hotels- both 3* but Matina did not live up to the expectations and i feel the 3 star should be amended to 2*. Good stuff: Hotel is in very good location and the whole area feels very safe The bed was large and comfortable- we had a " double bed" set up and it was a proper double materace instead of just a twin beds pushed together. Communication with the hotel was very good Hotel has a very pleasant outside look - the lobg alleyway leading to it and the first impression of the pool Lady at the pool was very positive and not pushy in selling their stuff Gentelmen at the reception was very nice Bad points Dated rooms Dated hotel - very dark unplesant reception Dated sun beds without materaces - uncomfortable to use but fortunately nearby restaurants offer great sunbeds if you order food/ drinks from them Small room- barely able to walk around bed Extremly loud fridge- we had to switch it off for the night No kettle and other utensils in the room Very small and dated bathroom- shower curtain doesnt block the water so you end up with water all over the floor Hit and miss cleaning- owners tried to blame it on us for not wanting cleaning when we were away from the hotel! No apologies from the lady at the reception- she was quite rude Breakfast - poor choice, small portions served on dessert plates- ive noticed the weggies from the previous day were kept and then served the following day. There were just a few pieces but no fresh ones were added so I got2 pieces of yesterdays tomato . The food served is cheap one- pastries and bread not bought from local bakeries but just from deep frozen packet- it is sad that they are not supporting other local business like theirs and the taste is not there either. When i opened the balcony doors the smell of cat urine was present- there is at least 3 cats are at the property and saw them on my balcony as well - i like animals but not the smell of their wee. There is so many stairs and doorsteps everywhere- between the bathroom/room, different parts of corridor- if you have any mobility isues do avoid tge hotel No elevator- you will be carrying your luggage up all the stairs by yourself- not even at the entrance The staircase and corridors are all in stone and hence every little sound is going to be multiplied- dont book if you care about good sleep. Covid protocol was ridiculous- I know we still have Covid but my experience from other hotel was much better- here it feels just not well thought through. You need to leave your key in the reception when you are leaving so tge can spray it( whats the point if you are the only one touching it) , the buffet breakast - you need to as a lady behind tge counter and she will serve you- otherhotels have a different approach providing some gloves and spreading up the stations. This is jyst to control guest so you dont have too much of their cheap food. Hotels offers you a taxi to the airport- we have used it and the minibus was (suprise suprise) quite old as well- the aircon was blasting hot air and was so loud we could not even talk. The driver was trying to start conversation but for obvious reasons it was very short one. My advice would be to keep the contact details of the company you can see at the airport- you can order using whatsup and the minivan is very modern. It is a good hotel if all you are looking for is to spend the night and thats it.…
Very nice hotel, clean rooms, good location and great value. I can only give four stars because the COVID precautions were REALLY over the top! You have to leave your room keys when you go out so they can be disinfected, and the buffet breakfast was INCREDIBLY awkward and uncomfortable, having to ask a member of staff to pass you each individual item from under a cover. A bit of Oliver Twist, "Please Sir, can I have some more?" Ok if it was 2019, but this was in May 2022! Staff were lovely, and very dog-friendly
We had a very nice time in Kamari, Santorini. Room was very neat and tidy. The decor of the hotel was appealing and nice. Hospitality of hosts Vasso, John Pierre and Alexandra was commendable. Thank you !!! Mr. Gupta and family.
Just returned from a great stay at Hotel Matina with 5 friends. We were checked in promptly when we arrived and given lots of useful information about the area. Everyone is really friendly and helpful, as it's a small hotel you get a really personal experience. The hotel was spotlessly clean, we enjoyed using the pool most days which we almost always had to ourselves. The hotel provided pool towels which was really helpful. The complimentary breakfast was organised and very tasty and the bar was reasonably priced and open until late. The hotel is situated in a slightly quieter part of Kamari, the beach is 5 mins away and there are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. We had a brilliant stay here in beautiful Santorini, if you are looking for a great hotel in Kamari I definitely recommend Hotel Matina. …
Overall this hotel provided an amazing experience for a holiday with 5 other friends - Would highly recommend to friends and family. Pros - Very friendly, helpful and informative staff - Lovely pool, wasn't very busy so lots of freedom - Free pool/beach towels provided - Good quality aircon in the rooms - Transfer to the airport offered - Nice poolside bar with quick service and cold drinks - Very clean rooms with daily cleaning Neutral/For Info - A few cats in and around the hotel, not a problem for us as animal lovers, but if allergic may cause a problem - You need to drop your key off at reception when leaving the hotel, they clean it and have it ready for you on return Cons To be honest, there really wasn't anything much to fault with the hotel - The only slightly negative experience we had was a couple nights at 1-2am another guests room were making some *very* loud intimate noises which could be heard in a number of other rooms - Don't blame the hotel at all, we didn't raise it with them as have a very live and let live approach - However, when on the Friday night we received a noise complaint at 11pm when having some drinks in room before going out, the above issue seemed a bit double standards…
I visited Santorini for the first time I stayed in the southeast part of Santorini at the beautiful Matina Hotel. The hotel is in a great location as it combines mountain and sea is also ideal for those who want to relax and enjoy the quiet side of Santorini. As for the hotel it was very clean, the reception is open 24 hours and the people who work there were all very helpful and helped us with anything a visitor would need for the first time visiting Santorini Thanks to them we did not feel that we were strangers!! A breakfast with a wide variety of fresh fruit ,exotic salads ,various kinds of juices special breakfast for vegetarians ,different kinds of milk and different kinds of bread!! The girls at breakfast were all very pleasant and always with a smile on their face. They all wore masks and kept their distance for the Covid 19!! When you visit a foreign place and you feel so familiar you are very lucky .Thank you very much Matina hotel!!!…
This hotel was extremely clean and followed all Covid guide lines. Very clean and well maintained property. Free breakfast in the morning, beautiful pool and grounds and bar on-site open til 1:30. Owner on-site and very accommodating
Amazing and peaceful place. Nice pool with beautiful mountain view. Spotlessly clean in the rooms and public areas. The staff were amazingly polite and friendly and the customer service was outstanding. Jean Pierre is the best host ever! The location is perfect. 3 minutes walk to the beach. Loved this place and would definitely recommend.
We stayed at the hotel last week and were immediately made welcome by all the staff. The room (and good sized balcony) overlooked the pool and was immaculate and cleaned daily. The hotel was full but never felt crowded, indeed, we often had the pool to ourselves. The breakfast catered with a wide choice and perfect for all tastes. I would highly recommend the hotel and certainly return. The Heslop family
