We were a bit busy shuttling around to see family further up the beach so only spent minimal time on the premises, so didn't get to chat up the owner Mike. But the other guests seemed pretty social and were seen on the property a lot. The layout is very long and narrow, but they do a brilliant job of making the best of their space. There is a mirror on one side of the main pool that really gives the area a sense of breadth and space. There is tons of public space for drinking coffee, reading, playing ping pong and the back of the hotel leads right to the beach. The room was great- spacious and comfortable and bright. The manager Youghi tried three times to offer us our welcome margaritas, we appreciated the gesture, it just was not great timing on our part. But we were very pleased with value proposition with what the rate delivered and wish them the best of luck. happy to recommend.

Hacienda la Rusa is welcoming with lovely grounds, and Mike, one of the hosts is truly lovely! Yougi lives and works onsite and is kind and helpful! The bugs in the rooms without a wall were TERRIBLE!

This hotel is a real favourite of my wife and I. We have enjoyed many weeks in this paradise and have had the pleasure of staying in several rooms, all with their own allure and charm. Each space is airy, clean and extremely comfortable. They all have a view of one of the two gorgeous pools and are well equipped with great showers and really comfortable beds. Janet is an incredibly talented cook who makes the best breakfasts on a rotating menu. The other member staff is Yogui and he is so helpful and kind and will go out of his way to help you with anything you need. The owners have a great project that we insist you check out whilst you are there. They do incredible work spaying, neutering, rescuing and educating people about dogs and cats. They put all their money in to this project, so you can have a guilt free stay in paradise, because each day extra you add to your vacation goes towards helping those poor defenceless creatures. We couldn’t recommend this place enough, beautifully located between excellent restaurants serving fresh local delights, backing on to a beach so quiet it feels like it’s your own and with a sea view where we have seen whales and dolphins.

Fantastic place to stay, very clean, comfortable super friendly staff. Yogi is a brilliant host, Janet makes a lovely Mexican style breakfast. The pictures really do not do it justice, the room my friend and I stayed in was INCREDIBLE!!!! Just a stones throw away from the beach. I will definitely be staying here again, I am in love with the place. Thankyou for a lovely stay and look forward to returning again.

I have stayed at Hacienda La Rusa many times and each respite is a peaceful and restorative getaway that feels like a dream. That moment you walk in from the street will take your breath away. Each room has its own adorable design and special touch that makes it feel like a one of a kind experience. Yogui always takes the best care of us and is such a kind and considerate person who is always willing to help above and beyond. It's steps away from the beach and the hardest decision we ever had to make was which gorgeous pool would we prefer to swim in that day. The owners are the most outstanding people you'll ever get to meet if you’re lucky enough to do so and supporting their contributions to the local community in this rural part of Mexico makes you feel like your doing a good deed just by relaxing away on a stunning vacation! If I could have stayed forever I would.

First of all, let me say that our expectations were VERY high considering what we had read from all the reviewers. Secondly, we want to say we are experienced world travelers, including trips to Mexico, and are quite flexible and realistic. We usually always stay at lower-cost rentals for more authentic experiences. For example, if we wanted Ixtapa, we would have gone to Ixtapa. We checked in a bit early, and they were accommodating. Yogi, the caretaker, was present and showed us to our room. He does not speak much English and gestures quite a bit when answering questions. Our room was lovely but very, very hot despite two ceiling fans. We had booked Diana, the room above the pool. We decided to cool off in the pool. The bathroom, a large, very modern Mexican design, was stifling hot and dark. The bathroom has no window or ventilation, and it was like changing in a sauna. Especially with the door closed. We went to the pool, which seemed a little murky, and when you got in, it was a blast of chlorine and not fresh, crisp pool water. The place is lovely, just like the photos. The town is everything you would want in a rural Mexican village. The people are warm and kind. We had to ask for additional fans. I had messaged the owners before our booking to inquire about the heat and lack of air conditioning and was told it is usually manageable with fans because of a cool breeze. But it is HOT in July. We spent a few days at the pool and the beach. We were settling in fine. But on Tuesday the power went out around 5 pm. We stayed in the pool, thinking Yogi would be around soon to let us know what the plan was or what was going on with the outage. My husband asked a shop owner who said the power goes out on occasion but usually kicks on by midnight but for us not to worry. She told us the Hacienda is the only place in town with a generator and Yogi will usually turn it on when it gets dark and we were quite "lucky". Sadly, Yogi never showed up to tell us what was going on. Mind you, he is the only contact and he can be gone for long periods as he does not live at the Hacienda. Then the generator kicked on. A monster of a machine, belching, and coughing, rattling so loud it was insane. We were actually laughing because we could not believe the noise. It was running right behind two of the rooms by the entrance to the villa. We stayed at the pool till around 9 pm and then went up to our room and decided to try and just go to sleep. The mosquitos and bugs were awful with no fan to keep them away. The fans did not work more than a little whirl and sputtered out. So here was this awful generator, with gas fumes thickly floating up into our 2nd floor room, with no seemingly useful purpose. That think kept going out and being restarted,, over and over, it was awful. SO you would finally fall asleep and then the generator would go ut and be restarted and it was an endless cycle. Lying in the bed sweating. No water. At some point, Yogi came to our door to ask us to unplug our refrigerator.

If you’re looking for a place to decompress and have a relaxing week or two this is the place to do it. Very few tourists, beautiful beaches, a taste of the real Mexican culture and so relaxing and inviting. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The rooms are beautiful and also extremely clean. You will not be disappointed by your stay here. Everyone I’ve met so far is looking forward to coming back.

Hacienda La Rusa is the ideal tropical getaway if you want to relax and enjoy a peaceful vacation right by the beachside in a typical Mexican village. The hotel has all the amenities one may dream of, it is tastefully decorated & rooms are large and extremely comfortable. The daily yummy breakfast will fill you for the day. Don't forget to give a cuddle to the old rescue cat, Tiburon. A unique place, that feels like home away from home, highly recommended!
