Detailed Reviews
My family and I vacationed at Chalet Christy over the 2019 New Year. This wasn’t just any family holiday. This was a “once in a lifetime” vacation involving 16 family members!! Needless to say, with so many people, the arrangements were very complex. Karen was very patient in responding to my many emails (well over 50!), responding even when she was on holiday. She took exceptional care of all the details – all transport arrangements, ski rentals, lessons and lift tickets - for our entire group. We had two family members celebrating birthdays while we were there and, for a small additional cost, she arranged for a celebration. My wife unfortunately broke her wrist at the ski resort and Karen came and took her to the walk-in clinic and maintained follow up with her to see if she needed anything and to see how she was doing, even after we returned to Canada.
The accommodations were great and as advertised. The chalet was conveniently located next to the ski resort. We also arranged for the laundry service and it was nicely folded and promptly returned when cleaned.
Justin and Lorena are fabulous chefs! The food was very tasty, plentiful and special dietary requirements/requests were accommodated.
I could go on and on about the wonderful time we all had but suffice it to say everything was outstanding! Karen and her husband Steve were very professional and wonderful to deal with; Justin and Lorena provided exceptional meals not to mention all of the other people who contributed to ensure a truly once in a lifetime and memorable holiday!
Many thanks to all!
Alston, Shamina and the 14 other family members

Dear Alston Many thanks for your kind review, we all try to make everyone's vacation a special one. It was a pleasure to meet you all and we are happy you all enjoyed your stay at Chalet Christy and Nendaz. We try to ensure you are served delicious meals and cater for dietary requirements. Although I managed to liaise with you prior to your arrival, I would like to thank you for your understanding, that we run a another chalet in the resort, so are not always able to be on hand during the week. We trust Shamina has now fully recovered and hope to meet again. Karen, Steve, Justin & Lorena

Chalet is brilliantly positioned; very close to the Nendaz lifts and with car parking immediately outside very easy to drive to Siviez if you prefer. Lighter / healthier food than your average chalet and a real effort made to cater for the differing dietary requirements in our party. Our hosts were friendly and non-intrusive and the advice from the owner - before and after arrival - was excellent.

What a fantastic week we had at Chalet Christy.
Justin and Lorena couldn't have been more welcoming and the food Justin cooked was just out of this world..
Our rooms were a good size, were lovely and warm and there was plenty of hot water when we needed it!!
There is a lovely large lounge to chill out in at any time and the main lift out of Nendaz is less than 50 metres from the front door - ideal.
And to add to all that, there is a hot tub for 8 people...Perfect after a days skiing and there is UK TV!
I highly recommend this place...

We rented catered Chalet Christy from March 15/22/2020 and payed full prize €10.000,- a couple of weeks before that date. Due to the Coronacrisis we were forced to cancel. All ski pistes were closed, which was known to everyone in Nendaz Unfortunately the owners flatly refuse to reimburse any amount or offer a voucher despite the fact that they did not have to buy food, drinks or pay for cleaning and other services. Shame on you Karen and Steven Allen!! Hospitality and decency definitely are not in your textbooks

When you reserved Chalet Christy, in January 2020 for an arrival date of the 15th march, as per our terms and conditions, you stated you had holiday insurance: You called just 24 hours before you were due to arrive in resort to let us know you would not be travelling. As per our terms and conditions, we said we would issue a cancellation invoice for you to be able to claim a refund from your travel insurance. We had bought all food and drinks, to cater for your specific dietary requirements. Hospitality and decency are foremost in our thoughts, but to cancel within 24 hours of arrival? When we were fully able to accommodate your party? Your hostile telephone calls, threatening to destroy our business are acceptable??? At the time of booking, your holiday insurance would have been fully able to refund all of your party.

Have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Nendaz and Chalet Christy.
Delicious food was presented by Justin and Lorena, and we enjoyed our afternoon cakes after our skiing.
We have skied in Nendaz before, but very happy there is a new lift so we could return as a family to the resort, I used to take the bus from Siviez.
Would definitely return to Chalet Christy, warm friendly atmosphere and only a short walk to the lift.
Look forward to next year!

“The owners of Chalet Christy's brusque manner, apathetic service, and overall indifferent attitude towards their guests completely ruined what could have been a wonderful trip. Usually, it would be very odd for anyone to mention the owners of a hotel - consider how many owners of hotels you knew personally - but in this case, they made it a point to be nuisance throughout the trip, even from the pre-planning stage.
Owners v. Hosts:
I need to quickly mention that we must separate the "Owners" from the "Hosts". The chalet has a chef (Carl) and a cleaner/host (James) who are the "Hosts". These guys were great, and they treated us very well. They are incredible with kids, and cooked amazing dinners. The "Owners" are not the "Hosts" in this case, but they still managed to darken our doorstep because of their hands-on involvement. When other reviews mention the "Hosts", they are not speaking about the actual owners, who are regular visitors to the Chalet.
Exchange Issues/ Value for Money:
When we first agreed to rent the chalet, they quoted us the price in USD and GBP, offering a chance to pay in either. But when we selected the GBP rate (which worked better for us as the pound took a plunge post-Brexit) they still tried to get us to pay at the American rate because it was better for them, even claiming that we owed them 67 GBP due to exchange considerations. Holding us hostage to 67GBP over 10,000 GBP was 'Penny-wise, pound-foolish', and left a sour taste in everyone's mouth. Then came the laundry issue, given we had 8 children under 6 with us. They told us we couldn't use the washing machine and dryer at the Chalet, but that they could arrange something 'for a price'. That price turned out to be 160CHF for three loads of laundry - a sum that we deemed unreasonable but necessary given the paucity of other options.
Lack of Proper Heating:
Upon arrival, the owners had not properly heated the chalet as there were no guests staying their prior to us. Unfortunately, this left us ‘out in the cold'. It took two days to get the Chalet up to warm, and the owner cited 'Swiss Electricity Regulations', though after that first night all the heaters worked just fine. However, the next day the owner stood outside the chalet, peeking into the windows on regular occasions. It was uncomfortable for all present. We were then told that they want us to keep the curtains closed allowing no sunlight or views into the home and heat down to save money on heating!
Service was Skipped with no Apology:
Our hosts overslept on Christmas morning and did not come to make us breakfast. We could not reach them and so had to buy our breakfast outside - which was promised to be included in the price. The owners stopped by around 10AM to drop off the laundry, and asked where the hosts were - we told them they never showed up. The owner ran up the hill and one of the hosts came by to begin cleaning up - but again no apologies were issued, and nothing offered to make up for the lack of breakfast on Christmas morning - a reasonably important meal with 8 kids in the house. The hosts made up for it with apologies and other things but again the owners did nothing but blame us for it! We felt bad for the hosts because they are constantly having to apologize for the owners. Finally, when we wrote a group email to highlight our concerns, the owner completely glossed over our concerns in his response, blaming us for the breakfast mix-up, saying that he assumed we wanted our privacy (?). No apologies, no contrition, just the unfortunate attitude that we had consistently received since our first contact many months ago.
Buyer Beware:
I would encourage all who are thinking of staying at Chalet Christy to consider what kind of trip you want. Is the location good? Yes. Is the Chalet in reasonable condition? Yes. But if service and hospitality are important to you, do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. Steve and Karen, the owners of the Chalet, made us feel as if they did not need our business, and that in many ways ruined what was otherwise an excellent holiday vacation. “

Responded Feb 3, 2017
Dear Mrs Vannoy We are astounded by your review. During the pre-planning stage to your holidays, we responded to 74 emails, asking various questions, to which we gave a full response to each and every one, we were a nuisance at pre planning stage! With regards to the mix up over payment, we quoted a price on GBP, you asked to pay in USD, we explained this would not be a problem, however, payment would have to be made in one or the other, not a mix of the 2 currencies. Your husband, paid his amount in dollars, unfortunately, he instructed the other guests, by his mistake, to pay in sterling. He then send an email apologising, and said he would pay the shortfall upon arrival, which he never did. With reference to the laundry, we again, received an email from your husband, prior to arrival, asking if there were laundry facilities at the chalet. We explained in full details, there is only a small washing machine tumble dryer, used for washing towels from the hot tub, and kitchen. We also said that you are travelling with young children, and would be more than happy to wash children clothing, which the staff did, every evening. On Christmas Eve, you contacted us, to say, you had more laundry that needed washing urgently. We made a few phone calls, and found 2 ladies, who were willing to do the laundry, Steve arrived Christmas Eve to collect the 3 large suitcases, full of clothes, it took the 2 ladies, all day to wash and dry 8 loads of washing. It was returned to you on Christmas day at 10am, and I cannot understand how you can say CHF160 for this service is expensive. We asked the staff to close the curtains in the evening, after dark, as it makes the environment inside the chalet more cosy. The curtains are not closed during the daytime. Steve and I, run another chalet in the resort, where we also had catered guests, so do not understand your comments about us standing outside the windows!! When we returned the laundry on the 25th, we realised the staff were not there for breakfast, we ask whether you had asked them not to come in, you replied you had not. Steve apologised, and immediately went to get the staff. They were completely bemused by this, as you had in fact, asked them not to come in that morning, so you could enjoy a private Christmas morning to yourselves. They had left the table set up, fresh bread, and croissants in the kitchen for you. Steve and I, have been in the hospitality industry for 35 years, and there is one thing we have learnt in that time, that is you can not please everyone, no matter how hard you try. 99% of guests, are delightful, its a real shame when that 1% of people, have nothing better to do, than complain! We wish you all the best for 2017. Best regards Steve & Karen

Chalet Christy is a lovely chalet in Nendaz village in the 4 Vallées skiing area. The chalet boasts a large number of rooms, comfortably accomodating our group of 18. The living room is spacious and with two huge sofas it offers a nice area for the whole gang to relax after skiing. Not mentioning the hot tub on the backyard!
The absolute best thing about the house was the lovely English-German host couple. Craig and Gudrun made us hearty breakfast in the morning and ensured we got our energy levels up after a long day on the slopes by cooking a healthy three course dinner in the evening. They were a lot of fun too, telling about their life in New Zealand and occasionally joining our stretching circle.
The chalet is not more than 200 metres from the skilift. Nendaz itself doesn't offer much skiing, but it is a good home base to get to Veysonnaz or Verbier's side, as it is basically situated in the middle of the 4 Vallées. Access to all other skiing areas goes through Siviez village, which is a few ups and downs by skis from Nendaz.
The only thing that cast a negative shadow on the week was the owner, who swung by the house occasionally. On a few mornings I was forced to stay in and get some work done on my laptop. On one of these occasions he told me: "Every time I come in here you're sitting right there in the sofa being all lazy!"
I was too baffled to answer anything in the moment, but I wish I had told him: "Well, you come here too often."
For the sake of future customers, I hope he doesn't continue to barge in. Before this happened, I actually thought of retreating to my room to work to avoid being in his line of fire of seemingly funny comments. This is not how you should feel in a chalet which you have rented for yourself to relax in.
I also got to listen to a loud conversation between the owners and the hosts on who's staying in the chalet the next week and what preparations are to be done. This was not the place nor the time for such negotiations, when the current customers are still there trying to make the best of their time.
Nevertheless, our group was very happy and we had an alpine week to be remembered. Would come back anytime.

Dear Milla Thank you for your positive feedback with your hosts, Craig and Gudrun. My husband apologies, for his comments, which I can assure you were meant in a fun, manner, sometimes things get lost in translation, and the British sense of humour! I am sorry if you thought his comments spoilt your holiday, it was certainly not intended! Best regards Karen

A group of 7 of us stayed in Chalet Christy for a week of skiing in February 2018. On arrival we were greeted by Ben & Anna who looked after us for the week. The chalet is well situated close to the gondola & is immaculate inside with a large kitchen/living area & good sized bedrooms. The breakfast & evening meals were all freshly prepared daily by Ben & Anna to a very good standard & there was always extra if you were still hungry. We met the chalet owners several times who were also very friendly & Steve even took us out for a day of off piste skiing which we all thoroughly enjoyed. All in all it is a great place to stay & I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Chalet Christy again.

The chalet is as promised in most ways. Great location in a nice town. Easy access to the slopes via the lift or bus nearby. You also have an easy walk to many restaurants and some shopping and two grocery stores. Plenty of room for our 4 families. Beware that the bathroom for the downstairs rooms is not connected or inside the room. You have to pass through a cold entryway to access it from the rooms. We were told to be careful with the hot water consumption before we arrived. We did so, and had no issues. The chef and host we had were nice guys. The food was excellent. There were a couple of issues with reliability and timing, but the staff made up for those issues. So, why be prepared? Because you will have to deal with the owners. They are more business people than welcoming hosts. They twisted things to make it seem like we did something wrong went we had issues. They answered emails before the booking and afterwards, but if you look around, you can see where they have caused issues for other travelers in the past. I'm here to vouch for those travelers. It's a good place to stay, but I question if it is worth it when you have to deal with these owners.

Dear Scott We thank you for your kind comments regarding the chalet and the chalet hosts who took care of you. We are surprised at your comments on our hosting skills. We run another chalet in the resort and score 9.8/10 for hosting. We met you at the bus stop, to transfer luggage, showed you around the chalet, left you with the chalet hosts, who served tea and cakes. Lent adapters for US appliances, to save you purchasing in the resort. Collected 8 bags of laundry on Christmas Eve, delivered back to the chalet on Christmas morning. Prepared meals for additional guests to join you for Christmas dinner. Arranged for restaurant reservation on Chalet staff's day off, which you subsequently cancelled. As you rightly say, we are the owners, and the chalet is of course, ran as a business. When booking a catered chalet, we as owners, arrange bookings, and assist with additional services throughout the week, such as ski lessons, equipment hire etc. Leaving the chalet hosts to look after guests on a day to day basis. We try to give as much accurate information on the chalet beforehand, describing bedrooms and bathroom facilities, for you to pass on to other members your party. We pride ourselves on employing mature members of staff to look after our guests during their stay at the chalet and have tried to respond in a professional manner to your negative comments on our hosting skills. Best regards Karen & Steve Best regards Steve & Karen Allen

I have just returned from a week in Nendaz with my 9 other buddys. The Chalet was the best I have ever stayed in, it was extremely comfortable, modern and sizeable. The sofa’s were huge and the dining was especially socialable. The food and cooking that Gudrun and Craig afforded us was some of the best ever, they were extremely friendly, hardworking and very approachable. It was just unfortunate that the Hot-tub broke down on the second day of the trip and was only repaired as we were due to leave. The hot tub was one of the key features we were looking for in a chalet. The boot room located just around the corner form the Chalet was particularly handy for storage but again it was unfortunate that the boot warmers weren’t working which resulted in cold, wet, damp boots to put on in the morning. The Ski area was some of the best I’ve sampled, truly very good and very quiet and the conditions were excellent. Socially, Nendaz was very quiet, one bar opposite the main lift ‘Eddleweiss’ appeared to be the only option with Le Bob being a nice bar to have a beer in the sun on the way back down, it’s just a shame that not many places felt to have a party atmosphere.
Overall I would recommend Challet Christy to anyone wanting to sample the 4 Valleys, I can’t imagine anywhere beating it.

Response from Nendazlover, Owner at Chalet Christy
Responded Mar 15, 2016
Thank you for your comments following your stay at Chalet Christy. Craig and Gudrun have been fabulous hosts this season, and their food has received many positive comments. When the engineer came to fix the hot tub, he found beer bottle tops and glass in the impeller, it is the main reason we ask guests not to drink from bottles or glasses in the hot tub. We look forward to seeing you in the future. Karen & Steve
