Celebrated a family 70th birthday in the restaurant with several rooms booked for the overnight. Rooms were well equipped, comfortable beds, cleanliness met expectations, good value given the location, all fine on the lodgings front. Meal was mixed with some really enjoyable offerings, the starter of roast black pudding was very tasty, steak was well cooked and very enjoyable, but... More

A year ago we had a really lovely sandwich lunch here the day after our wedding prior to staying at the Cavendish hotel next door. We ate in the bar area and really enjoyed our lunch from a varied menu of sandwiches. One year later, on our anniversary we called for lunch again and were told the bar was for... More

What used to be an average place to eat and drink has gone way down in my estimation as a result of their attitude towards car parking. As with other reviews on the site, I recently parked at the Devonshire Arms whilst meeting a friend there. I stayed for two hours and at no stage was I asked to input... More

The food and drinks were great, apart from an utterly disgusting parking policy, whereby if you do not register your car (nobody tells you to) you are slapped with a legally binding £60 fine. Despite proving that I was a genuine customer and providing a witness statement, they threatened to take me to court, Absolutely disgusting business practice.

Booked a double room for one night - we were greeted by a very weak welcome from the staff in the bar area - felt very unimportant as the staff don't acknowledge you and obviously have had limited if any customer service training - the room (we stayed in room 7) was basic and overlooked an enclosed courtyard which made... The burgers we had from the main menu and children's menu were fresh and tasty. We enjoyed our food but thought it was a bit expensive. It is lovely decor but unfortunately there was a food or drink splash on the paneling behind our table and all those bottles with candle wax melted down the sides was too much. Weirdly,... More

I have never written a review of any kind before but feel compelled to do so now. We arrived late for a meal with friends so parked and rushed in so as not to cause the restaurant staff too much inconvenience. However in doing so we missed the apparently clear signage regarding parking charges. At no time were we asked... More

One night only stay - but would certainly come again (for the cycle trails). Meals were not cheap, but excellent, the service is uniformly excellent. Breakfast was great, the quality was noticeably high, too. Prices in the Peak District are high in summer, but we had a good rate, which we were happy with. The parking regulations are very clear... Called late afternoon, not realising hatties was closed until we entered. Met a member of staff as we walked through the bar area and told him we had parked around the back and entered through hatties and that the lock was still on but the door open -he was perfectly pleasant and said he would fix it. We went to... More
