Let me start by saying that the place is magnificent. The views are awesome and the decor is more than satisfying to the eye. The reception was excellent, we were greeted with an amazing attitude and the staff was helpful all the way. We took the family room which was big. Being pregnant, the bed and pillow were very comfortable and I slept very well. The reception advised us to take a walk around the place to discover small alleys and great architectural sites. It was one of the best walks I had and I took a lot of pictures of old metal gates and stone stairs. We had lunch and dinner there. We tried each time different dishes and they were fantastic. It was a mainly Lebanese menu with a twist.

In the Chouf mountains and overlooking the spectacular valley is this great and solid-looking hotel. The building is nice and there is a grand courtyard. The rooms are very big and clean as are the bathrooms. The dining area is vast. The service is very good and the front guy was a very helpful and charming Bangladeshi. Food was good. At breakfast we were offered eggs, maybe because we were British! All in all a very nice experience.

I stayed here for one night as part of a group tour. The settings of the hotel are lovely, the building is very pretty and the surroundings are picturesque. It's not a huge hotel and you can walk around easily. The views from the patio area where there are dining tables are stunning. We were supposed to have a twin room but it was huge, with a double bed downstairs and two twin beds upstairs. It was clean and comfortable, they had provided heaters as it was December and they were adequate. The bathroom was nice and clean as well and the hot water worked. There was a shower but no bath. We had dinner at the hotel as it was the only place open on the day before Christmas Eve. My meal left a lot to be desired for, it was very basic for how much it cost. Other people's meals looked a little better but the kitchen was running out of a lot of things. The breakfast the next morning was a little better, traditional Lebanese fare. Overall I would recommend this hotel as we had a comfortable stay, but I'd try to go into the Deir el Qamar village itself for dinner.

Deir al Oumra is a beautiful 4/5* family run guest house in Deir El Quamar which used to be school among other things in its history. We required a twin room and were provided with a double but the eanager very quickly dealt with the issue and upgraded us to suite. The suite had lovely views over the mountain and a great and huge bathroom with two bedrooms, one on the mezzanine level (probably more set out for children as 2 x twin beds when the downstairs bedroom was a double. Beautifully cool up in the mountains and a room fan was just enough or a warm autumn evening. The courtyard was lovely, little unusual to have dining table right outside guests rooms which was slightly invasive of privacy so maybe non guests should be seated away from the bedroom doors. A couple of minor issues, the bath towels were shabby, frayed at the edges and not as white as they could have been and our shower plug was stuck down so caused a small flood in the bathroom which you cant do anything about until after you he finished, though the staff did fix the problem immediately once called. Breakfast was lovely, mix of Western and Lebanese, but the coffee machine was difficult to operate. Overall though a great stay in a comfortable bed with special views.

This wasn't all bad. The setting is amazing, over the Chouf valley, and I think they rest on their laurels, or their cedars. Food - nice, but no better than anywhere else we ate in Lebanon and the only nouvelle cuisine quantifies we encountered. We have over ordered in Lebanon so far, but under ordered here, so our 16 year old son went home hungry. No bread bought to the table. Only place in the whole country we have encountered this. Ordered glasses of wine. One came looking like a member of staff had taken a swig on the way out. I asked for a top up or just not yo have it. Waitress topped it up, but made sure she had a good gossip with a fellow waiter about it. And there in lies the problem- staff - surly is flattering, as is speedy. The manager said not a word as he dealt with our bill, not a thank you, not a goodbye as we left. We left him a tip - not a monetary one - but you and your staff learn to use your smile muscles. We are customers, after all. So, I'd eat elsewhere if I were you and take a free view over the mountains from somewhere else.
