My daughter and I stayed at YHA Aoraki prior to doing an overnight trek to Mueller Hut. We stayed in an 8 bed dorm. The dorm was spotless, the bathrooms very clean even though they were used a lot, the kitchen well stocked with equipment and the communal areas were very inviting and comfortable. The staff were also very helpful....

The location itself was superb! Facilities were great..very big spaces of kitchen, hall, laundry etc. The hostel design were unique from other YHA hostel that I've been to. Even close distance with few hiking trails too. Upon check-in, the staff even recommend me the best time for hiking based on the current weather forecast. .so you will able to plan...

I only stayed one night but it was without a doubt the best backpackers of my trip around the South Island. It was really clean and tidy, with a huge kitchen and very big common areas. The bathrooms were nice too. The dorm I was in had enough place for everybody's backpacks and suitcases, and was warm at night. The...

Hi Morgane, We're glad you enjoyed your stay at our hostel. Thanks for being kind enough to offer such a positive review. We share your concerns regarding the lack of electrical points in the rooms. Please be assured that that issue will be addressed next month. Then we're getting private lockers for the rooms with additional electrical points inside. Regards...

I stayed in an 8 person female dorm for one night. There were only 3 other girls in the room. Overall it was very cozy and clean. I enjoyed the tv room with couches, blankets, a tv, and a fire place. I would most likely stay here again.

Stayed here for 2 nights and liked it more than the yha at tekapo. Got the 8 bed female dorms and the room is huge which give us ample space for our luggage. Room is warm as well and they have cozy TV room with a fireplace. However the walls are paper thin and it was quite noisy at times...

Hi Joytq Many thanks for your constructive comments. I was concerned to hear about your experience regarding the noise levels. The nature of a wooden constructed building while beautiful aesthetically, generally flex, creak and can have poor noise insulation. We'll look at the bunk beds to ensure that all the connections are tight so you can be reassured of a...

We stayed in a private room (no. 15) for two nights. The view from this room was amazing, and was overall very comfortable. However the walls seemed very thin, we could hear conversations clearly from the next room. Luckily our neighbours weren't overly noisy - if they were this would have been very annoying. There was also only one bathroom...

The hostel is comfortable and clean. The room I stayed in doesn't have an any heating system so it gets pretty cold, apart from that everything is good. The lounge and dining area is a good place to hang out. One thing for Traveller to note is to stock up on food before heading to mount cook area as there...

This is a cozy hostel, but expensive to stay. Didn't feel very welcomed, there were lots of people checking in and only one person for two counters. Minimalistic kitchen equipment but nice common area, just enough space for the fully booked hostel.

Full disclosure: so far, I've only stayed at the Christchurch Rolleston and the Lake Tekapo YHA, and this was my third stop. Nevertheless, I could feel the difference as all the staff members were very helpful - Heike and Jono in particular were very friendly. The place is immaculately maintained and cleaned about twice or thrice a day. Since it...
