Clean large bedroom and pleasant owners. The rest of the house and yard was cluttered and untidy. Cramped bathroom and toilet. Nice walk in the forest a short way down the road. Over priced for the facilities. Coffee but no food offered.

The bunk room was perfect, nice beds, towels, small kitchen, books and cool decoration. The place is beautiful and welcoming. I really recommend this place, it was a good surprise at the end of our trip. The only "problem" was the bathroom, that is outside of the house. But that wasn't a big deal. We really enjoyed our stay there.

If you are looking for a pristine place with a print on the wall, sterile rooms and in-house TV, forget it. This is so much better! A taste of life in a real character kiwi home, steeped in history and surrounded by lush green gardens and forest. The welcome was warm, and the rooms very comfortable. If you get a... More

We reached the farm in the rain after a long trip from Queenstown, so that probably did not help our initial impressions. The front entrance of the farm house was not at all pictured on their website...actually it wasn't pictured on their website so we didn't even know if we were at the right place as it was not inviting... We had the best night's sleep in a while. So peaceful, clean air, comfortable bed - we were vaguely aware of the dawn chorus then slipped back into a deep sleep. Jenny & Steve made us feel at home arriving after a long car journey. Jenny went to pick some lettuce from the garden for our tea, with home made... More

So glad you enjoyed your stay and there is something about Peel Forest and God's blessings on our home that so often gives our guests deep restorative sleeps. We're glad also that you took advantage of the close proximity of the forest walks to our boundary. Regards, Steve. More

If you value waking up to the dawn chorus of a vast variety of birds, forest walks, waterfalls, swimming in rivers, home-cooked meals of home-grown produce, and friendly folk, then this is the homestay for you! My friend and I spent a lot of time and money touring the South Island and walking the Milford Track. While we enjoyed ourselves,... More

We recently had a short stay at this gorgeous, rustic backpackers. We are already planning a return visit. Jenny, Steve, Masha and Zana were so welcoming and we loved being involved in the daily life on the farm. We collected eggs, fed chickens and ducks, and walked around the paddocks. The birdsong in the surrounding bush is so musical, especially... More

We, a family of four, stayed there for a night we could have easily stayed a couple more. The owner a absolutely charming and very polite and restrained in a very charming way. We ate there, bought the organic produce from the farm, and cooked it in the main kitchen. We stayed in the main house upstairs Ina fabulously comfortable... More

We stayed in the bunkhouse with our family. You are basically in the middle of the farm, and hear roosters, wake up and find horses being saddled to round up cattle, and ducks wandering around - certainly a very authentic farmstay! My wife and daughter went on a horse ride with one of the hosts' family members (which was free!)... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The heartbeat of our homestay comes from our Christian world-view which aims to give guests a friendly, warm welcome in our beautiful environment. This is your chance to unwind and recharge. We can be a convenient stop-over between the Mackenzie country and Christchurch, or simply a quiet weekend away from the bustle of city life. Peel Forest Homestay provides accommodation in our large, child friendly farmhouse, and is a tranquil place surrounded in forest and full of warmth. We are situated very close to the native forest with its rich bird life, and there is easy access to many of the Peel Forest park walks from our house. We have recently been developing a native wetland in one of our paddocks, and are busy planting it in native trees and flaxes. Through our farm, we aim to be self-sufficient, and have a large vegetable garden and fruit and nut trees, as well as a few cows, sheep, horses, chooks and ducks. Most of the food we eat is produced by us in the garden and on the farm. ... more   less
