And an affordable (for NZ's reality) backpacker/hostel place at Arthur's pass. Our room was in a house which had fully equipped kitchen and two bathrooms/toilets which have heat lamps as well. There were three rooms in the house and one common room with great fireplace. With 5C temp outside (in the middle of summer) and pouring rain sitting in front...

Nice place to stay, kitchen is pretty good. A lot of families staying there. No private washrooms and no wi-fi. Reception was great, friendly staff. Location is good, close to the train station and the main hike.

We rented a cabin for 4 of us, it was a really great experience, nice kitchen, wood burning stove (which was lit and warm when we arrived), two bathrooms, one with a separate shower, a dining area and a gathering room. The beds were adequate if not spectacular and each bedroom had individual heat. It was a pleasant walk into...

Comfortable bed. Good sleep. Very hygienic. I felt very much at home and looked forward to heading to the Mountain House for a rest after exploring the mountains. Bob and Nick know what hospitality is all about. Excellent communicators. Aroha to both of them :)

The rooms are clean and so are the toilets. It was wet and windy when we got to Arthur's Pass and there wasn't a whole lot to do, so it was nice to be able to just chill out in their upstairs common room. The kitchen was spacious and had all the amenities you would need. It's never really busy...

We went to the Mountain House on the first day of our trip in New Zealand. We booked the room with 2 bunk beds. It was so warm and cozy. The shared bathrooms also spotless clean. I was really impressed. The kitchen also very big and fully equipped.

We love the Mountain House on School Terrace. Three bed rooms, well appointed kitchen, 2 showers and toilets, wood fire. It's so peaceful and feels like a restful retreat. I love hearing the trains rumble through the village. It's like fairy land if you're there when it snows!!

We ended up staying at Mountain House as there was a power outage at our original booking, but what a blessing! We stayed in a bunk room for four which was warm and comfortable. The facilities were great and very clean. As a family we thoroughly enjoyed using the lounge area with games and books as well as chatting to...

The mountain house is a great choice when you are visiting Arthurs Pass. The hostel is huge and has facilities to accommodate large groups and also solo travellers. The weekend that we stayed we had the whole 8 bed dorm room to ourselves. There is a tv room upstairs with a heap of books, magazines and board games that you...

In centre of village with off-road parking this hostel was kept clean, tidy & importantly (given the location) warm. Cosy communal area & large well equipped kitchen (bring own groceries) with good free wifi connection (not always a given on S Island). Tiny shower rooms a bit awkward as not everyone bothered to try & keep the floors dry. Lucky...
