We ended up staying at Mountain House as there was a power outage at our original booking, but what a blessing! We stayed in a bunk room for four which was warm and comfortable. The facilities were great and very clean. As a family we thoroughly enjoyed using the lounge area with games and books as well as chatting to... More

The mountain house is a great choice when you are visiting Arthurs Pass. The hostel is huge and has facilities to accommodate large groups and also solo travellers. The weekend that we stayed we had the whole 8 bed dorm room to ourselves. There is a tv room upstairs with a heap of books, magazines and board games that you... More

In centre of village with off-road parking this hostel was kept clean, tidy & importantly (given the location) warm. Cosy communal area & large well equipped kitchen (bring own groceries) with good free wifi connection (not always a given on S Island). Tiny shower rooms a bit awkward as not everyone bothered to try & keep the floors dry. Lucky... More

I called through 09/05 to check availability at this YHA for this week. I had explained that we were coming up from Chch to do some tramping and this was weather dependant so asked what the availability was like. The person I spoke to (I think was Bob) was very argumentative from the get go on the phone. He was... More

We get requests like this all the time. There is little point in coming to Arthur’s Pass if you know the weather is going to be bad and customers call in advance to find out what their accommodation options are, if any. This customer was focussed on our least expensive option and I advised her repeatedly that the room already... More

Reception located on highway, cottages are just nearby. Best stay in New Zealand we had. Very beautiful view. Cottages are so well maintained with all the amenities and nice quaint furniture and fireplace.

We stayed for 1 night at the Mountain House YHA in one of their cottages. It was a clean, spacious house with a shared kitchen and wc/shower facilities. The cottage has 4 bedrooms so you get to meet other people from all warps of life. The bed was comfy and we had a good nights sleep. It is good value... More

We stayed just a night during the week end and it was really wonderful! We loved the staff and our little but perfect room! Facilities were cleaned! We enjoyed looking outside in the middle of the night and see just ice that was covering everything! Bed really relaxing!

We stayed for one night, in one of the en-suite rooms out the back of the cottages. What a cute, well furnished room. Great decor with interesting feature furniture. The room was warm and clean, only downside was the wifi doesn't reach that far but it was quite refreshing being technology-free, reading and listening to the thunderstorm after an afternoon... This was a decent, clean place to stay for those on a budget staying in Arthur's Pass. We stayed in a house with 4 bedrooms and a common area and kitchen. There is a nice wood-burning fireplace in the common area which gives a nice ambiance. The place was clean and there are enough appliances to cook what you need... More

I've stayed at the Mountain House numerous times over the years and it never fails to deliver. Great location, well appointed rooms and an excellent kitchen that's always clean and tidy. The perfect stopover or weekend base for exploring Arthur's Pass.
