Tambo Ilusion retreat center is located in the countryside 15 minutes away from the center of Tarapoto city. Tambo Ilusion is recognized by the minister of Environment as a "private conservation area" for the ecological services that are practiced here. The owner, Armando Rodriguez has been protecting his property for the past 32 years and in this time, the forest has been able to regenerate itself. The grounds are beautiful and are the home of many species of animals like birds, monkeys, opposums, etc. who roam around freely. Tambo Ilusion's mission is a tripod of nature conservation, environmental education and ecotourism. Ecotourism is a very important activity for Tambo Ilusion as it financially supports the other activities practiced on the land. In 2011, Armando's Canadian life partner joined him and together they created the retreat center building 6 cozy "tambos" to receive a maximum of 14 guests and a beautiful maloca where yoga classes are offered on request. Johanne's passion for yoga, cooking and health was the perfect addition to Armando's dream of developing ecotourism activities. In 2014, Tambo Ilusion was recognized as one of the top 5 yoga centers of Peru as well as one of the ecological resorts to discover in 2015 by "El Comercio" newspaper. At Tambo Ilusion, expect to be greeted warmly and treated like a special guest, to be surrounded by natural beauty, to sleep in very comfortable beds in quaint and rustic wooden cabins with a high thatched roof and a hammock hanging on the porch, cool off swimming in the freshwater lagoon and relax on the dock, listen to the sounds of the wildlife, eat very well... Different packages are offered to live the "Tambo Ilusion" experience in the jungle of Peru! Each package includes all vegetarian meals, a guided walk in the trail of the protected forest and plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings and more!
This is my third-time returning to Tambo Ilusion and what a joy it was to come back! I came for a yoga retreat in 2015, a liver cleanse in 2016 and returned with my mom in 2021 for another 8-day liver cleanse. Johanne and Armando were incredible hosts and made our stay relaxing and beautiful. After the cleanse I felt rejuvenated and clear thanks to the food we ate and the environment we were able to relax in.
Since 2015, the Tambos have been beautifully renovated to include personal bathrooms with a spacious shower, and a screened-in front porch with two hammocks. We spent alot of time in our lovely hammocks reading, chatting and watching the monkeys, and birds in the jungle. It was really great to experience the additions.
The food was delicious throughout: healthy, beautifully presented, and colorful! We spent our days attending yoga classes in the mallorca, swimming in the lagoon, walking in the jungle, visiting Johanne's horse (in a field with a view!) and relaxing in our hammocks. I would highly recommend Tambo Ilusion for anyone who is looking for a relaxing and healthy jungle vacation.

This was an incredible retreat. I even extended for a week to use it as a home base for other day trips and adventures. I had the exact experience I was looking for with learning reiki and improving my yoga skills. Johanne brings amazing knowledge and humility to her practice. I walked away feeling ready to perform reiki on myself and others and with a deep understanding of the practice. The location is beautiful and there’s an amazing lagoon that I swam in every day that was warm, clean, and refreshing. I highly recommend it!

My first ever all inclusive retreat and what a treat it was. My daughter and I just finished a 10 day visit to Tambo Illusion for the 8-day liver detox . Johanne and Armando were wonderful hosts as they showed us this jungle retreat that they have created. They have built a little paradise set on the hillside with jungle all around. We saw toucannets and monkeys daily as they moved across the property. Johannes care and support through the detox week made it easy to focus on letting go and just detoxing and relaxing. Johanne made letting go of caffeine, alcohol, gluten and dairy possible and actually quite easy. Despite the foreboding weather forecasts of 80-100% rain the entire length of our stay, our days were glorious with sun and rain and clouds. You could count on the weather changing every few hours. Many a day we ended up in the natural pond above the tambos, swimming and birdwatching on the floats. The 8 days includes Reiki massage and yoga with many suggestions for other ways to find relaxation, grounding and release. The food was delicious and nourishing and filling. I will be back !!

I honestly cannot say enough about this lace. I was extremely emotional leaving as it gained a very strong piece of my heart.
I was looking for a place to get an authentic reiki certification in Peru and I cannot imagine doing it any other place than Tambo Illusion. I went with full intent of just obtaining my certification and what I gained was way more than I could’ve expected.
From start to finish I was treated with the utmost kindness and caring hospitality from everyone on the property including the very sweet pets that Johanne and Armando have. (Once you get to know them it’s no surprise why their pets are so amazing as well)
Each day had a schedule but I never felt rushed and the time flew by like you wouldn’t believe! I was in need of a major disconnect and recharge and I absolutely found it here. This was one of the best things I have ever done for myself mentally and physically.
This full on wellness retreat gave me a complete education on eating clean and you can even get a copy of johannes massive beyond impressive delicious cook book! Which I highly recommend! (After one meal you will want it) Johanne is also a yoga teacher and we had a couple incredible classes during our downtime. Armando has an amazing medicinal garden and his medicinal plant bath at the end of the retreat feels so good on the body and the setting is breathtaking.
I could go on and on about tambo illusion but I will just leave it with if you are looking to find yourself and heal yourself, you will absolutely do it here! I will definitely be back! <3

I just want to start off by saying that if you are debating where to do a retreat of any sorts do not look any further! You have found the retreat for you. I am a professional Acupuncturist who was looking for a complementary healing modality to add to my practice. I decided to do the 3 night 4 day Reiki/Yoga retreat in September 2021. It is safe to say that this was one of the best experiences of my life. I have never been filled with so much gratitude, love and light as I have with my stay at Tambo llusion. Johanne and Armando are beautiful human beings. I felt so safe and welcome from the moment that I stepped foot onto their land. The food was sensational and the ambiance was unforgettable. I felt so at peace and truly connected with nature and to myself. You are completely safe and taken care of during the entirety of your stay. We came upon beautiful Tambo Ilusion by chance and left feeling rested, refreshed, healthy and blessed. Johanne and Armando are exceptional hosts! Even though we reserved late and didn’t sign up for any of the wellness treatments in advance, we were welcomed to three beautiful yoga and mindfulness sessions in their beautiful moloaka, treated us to delicious, healthy breakfasts and dinner and offered enlightening cooking tips that I will carry into all my cooking efforts. We also took part in a healing Reiki session that was totally amazing. Johanne I s truly an amazing healer and gives herself up fully to ensuring comfort and well-being for her guests. I highly recommend this beautiful wellness center for short or long visits. Accommodations are comfortable and relaxing. The grounds are well cared for with beautiful flowers. We loved swinging in the hammocks and relaxing on the dock over the lagoon. In addition, Armando and Johanne secured a driver to help us travel to our next destination. Both speak English and Johanne provided guidance for the next leg of our journey in beautiful Peru.

Staying with Johanne and Armando was like visiting your favourite cool aunt and uncle—so warm, familiar, knowledgeable, and full of vibrate life force. I entered the 9-Day Liver Detox Retreat feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and in urgent need of a full-body reset. I left feeling light, bright and clean—physically, mentally, and emotionally! The lagoon is pure magic and nothing beats bird and monkey watching in any of the on-site hammocks. Johanne and Armando were such great hosts that I decided to come back to Tambo Illusion the following week to volunteer! Being on the property and in the presence of Johanne and Armando made me want to work harder on myself and my goals, and to share that energy with others. Truly an inspirational experience!

Well Tambo Ilusion gave us that and more in under a week — My fiancé & I returned refreshed, recharged and ready to live life.
I’ve visited all kinds of retreats large and small. At one in Arizona I even made a film called “Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes In 30 Days”. But this one on a private eco-reserve in Peru’s high jungle mountains nurtured us both. After an easy ride from the airport, we passed through the bamboo gates and entered a nature preserve loved and cared for by owner operators Johanne & Armando.
They greeted us at the gate setting a caring tone for our visit. We came as clients, but left as friends already planning our next visit. They are both excellent hosts and genuine people. It's an intimate resort so we enjoyed sharing most meals with them. Before we booked they answered all our questions and we asked plenty! They even anticipated our needs from airport pickup, to flexible meal times, to a river raft adventure. We thought we needed some R & R in nature —- but we got so much more! Luckily we had booked cooking classes with Johanne. Now we’re sure to be eating way better at home because of her practical and time saving tips. Her entrees were beyond delicious. And her desserts would standout at Moby’s Little Pine restaurant in Los Angeles, or the Candle Cafe in New York City.
Beyond her extraordinary chef skills, I’m not exaggerating when I say her yoga instruction was even more remarkable. It matches my experiences at studios in Santa Monica and San Francisco. I know she sounds too good to be true — But wait there’s more! For no particular reason we tried Reiki sessions with Johanne and both loved them. She seems expert at that too. (Is there anything she can’t do?)
Armando took me on a couple nature walks which I really liked. His passion for preserving this land’s ecosystem is infectious and going on 40 years.
Simply said, we renewed our souls at Tambo Ilusion Wellness Retreat Center. If you go, I'm sure you will too.

Thank you Johanne and Armando for being so accommodating and providing such a warm and charming experience! I absolutely loved the Reiki retreat! I came in with an open mind and no prior knowledge of Reiki. I left feeling I have a confidence to perform Reiki on myself and others. Learning Reiki from Johanne is such a gift! She explains all the little details while providing supplemental information to help learn. I also found the history of previous Reiki masters and modern usage of Reiki to be quite fascinating. Johanne provides deliciously prepared and beautiful vegan meals. I would recommend eating at Tambo Ilusion as much as you can. She sources local fruit and grains and is so thoughtful in combining flavors and colors together for each meal. The days are full of activity from start to end. There is time to take break and swim in lagoon or spend time journaling Reiki experience. You have time for morning or evening walks, perhaps catch the sunset. I also had a few yoga sessions with Johanne and her tips are useful for yogis of any skill level. I highly recommend!
