Beautiful bungalow in the forest, good location for bird watchers. The staff can organize excursions to go to local bird sanctuaries. They will pick you up at the bus station or airport for free, you pay for return drop off. Breakfast was good. Nice little museum next door. It's in the middle of nowhere and no restaurants so you either have to order food or bring it with you.

My friends recommended a visit to the Ayahuasca Museum. Was pleasantly surprised! It turns out that this is the only Ayahuasca museum in the world and in general it is the only museum in Tarapoto. Lots of useful information and beautiful sculptures.
The next time I visit Tarapoto, I will definitely come here again, as this place has a strong magnetism and evokes good associations.

I visited this hotel with my family and this is a calm and tranquil space to be in, the landscapes are breathtaking. The service is good, the food is also great, but I mostly enjoyed the rooms and bungalows, they are very comfy. I really think this place is spectacular, I also visited a museum nearby which is the Museum of Ayahuasca, which is a bonus and a nice place to learn new things. 5/5⭐️

Though I have been around the world, was my first trip to Peru. This the kind of place I always hope to find in my travels. It's outside the city, private and surrounded by REAL nature. The staff is there if you need them and the cost is more than reasonable.

Most important for me, as a photographer, it's beautiful. The panorama of the jungle was at my door. I surprised myself by spending so much time taking pictures of the beautifully landscaped grounds. I highly recommend it!

My wife and I stayed here for 4D/3N in late May. The grounds are truly beautiful, the service was friendly and accommodating, and the lodge units were quite comfortable. Breakfast is included in the rate and is served each day with local ingredients (such as fresh-layed eggs from the Lodge's hens :). We were looking for a place that was outside the city, relaxing, and immersed in nature--and that's what we found at Cordillera Escalera Lodge.

However, please note that lunch and dinner are not provided at the lodge, so guest options are limited to traveling into the city (about 5 - 7 minutes and S/.5 by mototaxi) or ordering from two restaurants which deliver to the lodge (the menus from both restaurants are available at reception). This is a slight hassle, but the employees of the lodge are very helpful with coordinating mototaxis and deliveries for the guests.

Like most visitors to Tarapoto, my wife and I had a tour booked for each day of our trip. To really get the most out of the lodge, it would be worth it to spend one (or more) days staying at the lodge, rather than doing a tour. I suggest sleeping in, taking pictures of the grounds in the morning, ordering delivery for lunch, lounging in the hammocks and & listening to the birds sing :)

The reserve the lodge is located in is a very beautiful, but that is not enough to make up for the horrible service. First of all, the cabins are situated on top of a steep hill and the stone walkway is covered in moss and becomes very slippery when wet, which, in the rainforest, is often. Also, when we were picked up from the airport, the first and last name on the sign were incorrect, so there was some confusion with that appointment. We also had trouble with the lock to our cabin and ended up having to climb through a window to unlock the door. What made matters worse, though, was when we expressed concerns to the owner, he was very disrespectful. He claimed that the problems we experienced were only our own fault and did not offer to help in any way. I would not recommend this lodge.

Again? The same couple of girlfriends that post the other last comment, the one of June 19th; Please to the public opinion: We don´t know why they want to discredit us, maybe because they tried to get advantage of us making some "schemes and stories" and ask not only for a night free also ask for money us to pay them because "someone was at the window looking" as one of the gals dare to affirm; we don´t fall in their game. Please get our word that we allways take care of our guest (our motivation) and accomplish all our travelers needs and take part of the search of guest´s unique experiences. (Just compare with the other 27(?) comments of us) Thanks Cordillera Escalera Ecolodge.

Although the lodge was beautiful, I cannot recommend anyone stay here because of the owners'/mangers' blatant disregard for guests' safety and comfort. They were unwilling to assist or claim responsibility for the traumatic experience we had or the mistakes they made. First their website says they provide transportation between the lodge and the airport, but the only provide transportation on a Motorbike from the airport to the lodge. Along with their misinformation about the tour they organized for us, locks that do not function, and a dangerous inclined walkway, we were not pleased. Lastly and most importantly, they refused to maintain the safety of the premises and apologize/compensate for their failure. Shortly after we arrived, I decided to take a shower and during the shower, I turned around to see a MAN'S FACE IN THE WINDOW. I screamed, smacked the window and yelled to my friend. We called the desk and no one was there. We called later and the owner who was then at home, said he would send the "night guard" up to look. When the night guard came, he doubted it was actually a person, laughed, and was acting "shocked" by the possibility. The owner later texted me guessing it was an intruder from a local building site. They offered no help, no changes or anything. We pushed furniture in front of the door and decided to deal with it the next morning. In the morning, the owner continued to deny that it was one of their workers, yelled at me, claimed it was a leaf or a shadow, claimed it was not his responsibility, and asked for pictures to prove that a man was actually violating my privacy!!! We remembered that when we booked, they asked if our party was two women. We felt very unsafe, violated, and disrespected!

Response from Cordillera Esca... E, CEEL Reception. at Cordillera Escalera Ecolodge
Responded Jun 21, 2017
Hello, first of all the main issue is money here involved...to decide if you stay one more night by a discount since you said "apologize / COMPENSATE" , since is a "word of one against other"... We have the right to tell our possition. 1.- Our site offers pick up fron airport as we did we have a brand new Trimobile for doing so since we are a small an cozy Lodge we use that transportation as the main way of transportation as the almost 90% of locals. 2.- What missinformation you said? You choose your own tour from a number of choices and prices ( not included), you knew when the tour guide will pick you up where to go, what to see, duration, and a long list of etcs, as well of photos in the flyer we provided at first. 3.- We use hotel locks for the main entrance and other for the bathroom, specially the last is to avoid risk or easy rescue for an a solo accident in shower, for example. 4.- The Walkway... is the first time someone complains about, well we cannot please everybody all the time, but talking about that... if were not there, travelers will not get to see the marvelous views of the Cordillera Escalera natural Preserve, as the bungalows are in a small hill and to get to them is a stone walkway with some incline, that makes the stay a global experience of the kindness and relax of the jungle. 5.- About security and incidents: Here is the main issue with money involved. - First of all we have a night shift gard. - The front desk attends fron 07:00 to 18:00 as we said including that we waited you from that hour yo to arrive and to book you in our lodge. - There´s no possibilitie that you came to reception at that time (with nobody attending as you knew) and without being attended with the night shift gard. - We have cameras all arround main and common areas of the lodge, and you dont leave your bungalow at anytime that night (video records the inclined walkway you dislike also), and also nightshift man was all the time before that "supposed intromission" in the first floor or mainhouse - reception surroundings. (he wasnot at your window looking at you - again video records that) - The time you said "shortly we arrived" was also not accurate... you arrived at 21:00 made check in, we helped with your bags and you called me at more or less 23:00. - The supossed "face in the window"... there were nobody of our employees at the upper bungalows at that time, and if was not someone (that we proved with video records) must be something or your only immagination since the bungalows are at the bottom of a untouched jungle, thats why we said maybe a leaf or shadow or the willing of get your stay free as you claimed us to return your money - we have proof that noone was there. - Paranormal activities? - We are kind and respectfull we never ever yell a guest, impossible! We love this activities and serving guest is our main priority. - Yes, we offered help that´s why we sended our gard to look for a intromission with no signs, footprints (shoe or bootprints), arround your bungalow, and changing you to another bungalow will make no difference with the "supposed face in window". - We make this response so readers will see what happened really and not make false assumptions of this kind of try to get ahead of money compensations with fake actions. Thanks.

I was very grateful that the Cordillera Escalera Lodge made space for me and my Dad rather last minute. We stayed in the family cabin, which is the lowest down on the hillside (recommended for those who can't hike up a steep hill to get to their rooms). The hotel supposedly had arranged transport from the airport that didn't show up, but this led us to take our first (of several) exhilerating mototaxi rides of the trip. The hotel is not far from the city center, but requires traveling down an unpaved dirt road with plenty of potholes. So, get ready for a bit of adventure getting to and from the hotel. All that said, it is situated in a lovely spot surrounded by nature, flowers and birds. The small staff was sweet and helpful. Fresh fruit and local fare for breakfast. There is no restaurant on premises after breakfast. The staff was helpful in arranging outings and transportation. There's also a small nature "reserve" a short walk from the hotel that makes for a nice outing. The family cabin is HUGE. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a very large open living/kitchen space. We enjoyed the patio the most. The cabins on the top of the hill have amazing views and hammocks.

We arrived there late at night so the visit started with star-watching...)))
And only in the morning we could really see how amazingly beautiful is this place.
Pure magic... And after a trip to town by authentic threewheelers and dinner at La Patarashka sleep was incredibly good.
