I was lucky enough to stay at Los Huingos for 3 days at the beginning of October. I wish I could have stayed longer after my short time there. It's hard to cover all the reasons this place was great so I'll start at the beginning. I was dropped off there by a friend so I didn't need a ride from the airport to the lodge. Because of this, Los Huingos covered my motorbike taxi to the airport at the end of my stay. Little gestures like that go a long way. On the second day of my stay I left very early for a hike in the middle of the jungle with a local guide. I came back (after missing breakfast time) and they saved my food for me, heated it up and served it to me while I was in complete zombie mode after 6 hours through the jungle. The food was great too and they cater to you if you have a specific diet. They had this hand made soap they gave me to use at my arrival which was some of the best soap I've ever used. The kitchen is free to use at any time. This includes making your own meals if you want. Yes and coffee at any time you want and a giant filtered water jug to use so you don't have to buy 500 plastic bottles to drink from. Alexandra was the main person there while I was staying. She was extremely nice and very helpful. She ran over peanut butter and honey to the kitchen area after realizing I didn't have any during breakfast (without me saying anything) just because she's so nice and always goes the extra mile. Her English was great (even though she says it's not) and she's always available for help. Seriously, she's great. I'd stay here again every time I'm in tarapoto and the next time I go back I'll definitely book my stay there. Top quality. Thanks so much. …
Beautiful place right next to the river, great breakfast, located on a quiet road just outside the busy part of Tarapoto. Easy access from Tarapoto airport The staff was really helpful and the room was vast and comfortable.
I visit Taparapoto to do Diet at Takiwasi, i was scared about all this process, but the staff at los Huingo, were very helpfull, Ale, German Tere, Violeta, was awsome, they know very well how to take care of you during the time you stay before and after the retreat, anything you need, then can help you and also I did the diet at takiwasi and is very close to the center, so is very convenient the location, clean and very nice room wiht a nice garden view
Staff is friendly, smart and efficient. Everywhere you look there is natural beauty. River accessible (watch for mosquitoes though!). Rooms are very spacious, pretty and comfortable, well protected from mosquitoes. Shower can be too hot or cold. Fan couldn't be directed towards sitting area, just towards bed. Rooms by the river are quieter and you hear the beautiful sound of the river. A very nice open lobby/terrace sort of area has a kitchen as well and is for some reason not too often visited by mosquitoes! (I was there in July and had room B3.)
I only stayed for 2 weeks and it was enough to appreciate the beauty of the park, a neat room and a very decent bathroom at a fair price. I can only blame the tumult of the very close river and, times to times, the one from the road.
