We stayed from 26 December to 4 January 2020. The hotel is friendly and welcoming, we stayed in Amber block in a 1 bed apartment, our children stayed on the sofa bed in the lounge which was not of good quality or very comfortable. The bedroom was spacious, lots of storage in the bedroom, hallway and lounge. The bathroom was small and dated but functional. The food is hearty and the restaurant manager George is very friendly and helpful. Our stay was during a local holiday so there were a lot of people in our hotel and the food ran out quite a lot, with long delays to replace it. I think this was more down to the amount of food people were taking rather than the kitchen being under staffed. The spa is a great way to unwind after a days skiing. The games room was also a great addition to the evenings entertainment. We hired a car from the airport which made it much easier driving into Bansko. We also drove up the mountain rather than take the gondola as the queues were so long to go up and down, but I guess this was because you couldn't ski all the way to the town as the snow hadn't reached that far yet. This hotel would be lovely in the summer too.

Would have been 4 out of 5 but we left early because of security issues with the cleaners entering our apartment when the do not disturb sign was out, and food issues. We had paid for half board shown as a buffet style but in all actuality was changed to meals from a menu. On the third day we were told by the restaurant manager that we were ordering too much. This was the final straw and we cut our holiday short. Booking.com brokered a 2 day refund but we would not recommend.

Very okay hotel. We booked the 2 bedroom apartment and were pleased with our stay. The living room had a fire place and we were able to purchase wood from the lobby. Someone came by and helped to get us set up. It was very cozy. The beds were OKAY. But the split in the mattress was very uncomfortable. I wish they had put a large sheet over the mattresses instead of individual sheets on the mattresses. The towel heater in our bathroom was very temperamental. I seemed to be able to get it to work when I needed my swimsuit dried, but not when I wanted a warm towel. Oh well. The WiFi was fine on property, however it didn’t work well in the bedrooms. We checked out the indoor pool and it was nice. We had gone to the pool/spa area to get massages. We booked our treatments with reception a day in advance. It was a little complicated booking because the masseurs are offsite and reception needed to call and discuss availability, however the massages were fine. I think I would have preferred a deeper tissue massage, but with the complication with booking I wasn’t able to fully communicate what I wanted. As to the pools, my only comment is that the water could have been a little warmer. The issue with the pool/spa/sauna area was that there was no phone to call the lobby, and we couldn’t figure out how to get the sauna/steam room started. It was still nice to hang out in the indoor jacuzzi while watching the snow fall outside though. The hotel was probably a 15 drive from the slopes. We didn’t use the shuttle, but they did have a free shuttle that could be utilized. Overall it was a good stay and I wouldn’t be opposed to returning.

We booked the Balkan Jewel for a late summer holiday and had a lovely week relaxing by the pool and taking excursions to see the Rila monastery, narrow gauge railway and a lot of pottering about Bansko. We stayed in one if the 3 bedroom chalets which was spotlessly clean, spacious and comfortable. The chalets are about 10 minutes walk from the main resort so bear this in mind if you include meals in your booking. My mum uses a walking stick and so we took full advantage of the offer of lifts to and from the resort - we just had to ring reception and a few minutes later one if the lovely drivers would appear. However kitchen was very well equipped and there is a big supermarket nearby - and a mini market for basics five minutes utes was away. Resort staff were great and incredibly helpful with all of our requests - we used the free shuttle service into Bansko a lot and it was completely reliable. Special mention to Emil on reception and George who runs the bar and restaurant who made our stay special. Excellent buffet breakfast with hot dishes, cereals, fruit, cheese and cold meats - and kind offer to make anything else we fancied. Evening buffet when available is excellent value and we loved the risotto, home made chicken soup, salads and trout from the a la Carte menu. Would definitely recommend the hotel and think it would be a great base fir a skiing holiday in the winter.
