I've stayed at the Monastero, as it is also known because that is its origin, on a couple of occasions. The welcome is friendly, the public areas cosy and informal, and the rooms comfortable if lacking in frills. Essentials such as hot water at the right time - so often a problem at this level of hotel - seem to...

I have been staying here (until this year) with my elderly mother every couple of summers since this old monastery was converted by the resident family nearly ten years ago. I attend a nearby singing course but would leave my mother there for the mornings at any rate. Their focus is on the game dinners (though sadly I was usually...

A Smartbox gift means doing an awful lot of research to find decent quality places that will not treat their Smartbox guests as second-class citizens and eventually I turned up Pian di Marte: a good choice, too. “Rustic hospitality” is what you’re promised, and that’s what you get at this converted monastery in the Umbrian foothills between Umbertide and Lake...

The location is special, set in the beautiful Umbrian hillsides and the welcome is warm. The night we went the food had a chocolate theme, although to be honest it was more of a chocolate twist. Pasta with a few chock flakes sprinkled over them was not much enhanced, but the idea was great and added to the mood of...

We wanted a quiet place in the country while our son was attending a wedding near Cortona. Pian di Marte was the perfect place to stay after days in cities. This rural B&B is far from the madding crowd, yet only about a 15 minute drive from the main Siena-Perugia highway and maybe a half-hour from Cortona. (A car is...

What attracted us to this place originally is that there were so many enthusiastic reviews in Italian! But, we promised Angela, the host, that we'd leave an English review of our stay. The location of Pian Di Marte is lovely, on top of a hill, with great views over the surrounding countryside. The double rooms we were in were great-...

Away from the daily traffic and crowds, but still close enough to the touristic sites. Great place to keep as a base to travel to other near by centers. Surrounded by the beauties of nature and a peace that penetrates your mind and soul. Great for an early morning jog, or a brisk walk, or to just sit and admire....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
On the border between Umbria and Tuscany, on the Trasimeno Lake hills, Pian di Marte country house is the ideal center place of your Italian tour. It's between Assisi and Siena, and at half an hour trip from Perugia and Cortona, but it's placed in the very quiet and green Umbrian country, surrounded by pastures and woods. The Country House Pian di Marte is born from the restructure of the eighteenth century christian estate of San Cristoforo, where the church and the bell tower of the ancient parish still exist. The house has 10 rooms and 4 separate entrance lodgings: two of them are equipped for invalid persons. Pets are admitted with no extra charge. We recommend our home cooking, homemade bread and pasta, as well as all of our cakes and desserts! Organic house wine, wine labels from the territory, on demand "FIORENTINE" beefsteaks from the Pian di Marte valley. Horseback riding, including beginners, with horses selected. ... more   less
