Gitonia tis Irinis on Koufonisi is a characteristic example of Cycladic hospitality and harmony, an artistic and architectural creation of Antonios Mavros. Each house is autonomous and from its veranda offers guests a sea view of tranquility and an aura of sea breeze. It is an ideal destination for those who love and respect man as an integral part of nature.

A truly special place and an oasis of authentic Cycladic beauty. Gitonia tis Eirinis is a series of independent carefully crafted houses each with unique architectural features designed by Anthony Mavros aka the Greek Anthony Gaudi. Each house is private with its own veranda with trellises covered in bougainvilleas, jasmines, and grapes. We come here every year all the way from California for several years to recharge and recuperate. Year after year we end up extending our stay at Geitonia tis Eirinis. Every time it’s hard to say goodbye every and every time we keep returning to a place where we can feel connected to the history of Cyclades and the wild beauty of Koufonisi. Highly recommended to those in search of reconnecting with what’s important in life.

After a great stay here in 2018 we decided to return. So glad we did. This unique and picturesque "complex" of traditional Greek rooms is just as gorgeous. The blue painted rooms all have their own shady verandahs and the whole site is extremely pretty, complete with small church in the middle. See the website which accurately describes the complex and how the rooms were designed and constructed. Gitonia tis Irinis is well managed and it shows. Rooms are immaculately clean and well maintained and very comfortable. We were able to book the same room we had 2 years ago and it's as lovely now as it was then. There are different sizes/styles of rooms, but ours had a spacious bedroom (fridge in one corner with kettle and few cups and plates) and bathroom. Some have a kitchen area. A very comfortable room with screens on the windows and a fan (no aircon). From Gitonia tis Irinis it's less than 10 minutes walk to Chora and the port, passing one of the beaches. If you go in the other direction it's a 10 minute walk to Finikas Beach where there's a restaurant right next to the beach. Location could not be better and value for money is outstanding. Highly recommended.

After a first stay at the Gitonia tis Irinis in 2010, we returned in late June 2019 and were happy to find out that the place remains as unique as we remembered it. Its location is ideal, midway between the Chora and the first beach. The houses are arranged around a large lush garden, resembling a small village, complete with a little picturesque church in their midst. They are painted in a soothing light-blue shade and were built according to traditional local designs and techniques, with some inspired twists from master-builder Antonis. Each one is graced with individual embellishments such as inlaid pieces of weather-beaten wood, arched over rounded openings in a wall or forming a comfortable headrest over the bed. Simplicity and functionality, combined with high aesthetics, reign supreme, including the kitchenette area and the bathroom. Small windows judiciously placed here and there allow for the natural cooling of the rooms. The little terraces in front are ideal for relaxing with a book or just taking in the view. A striking feature is that there is not one square angle in the room or the terrace; every surface ends in a soft hand-fashioned curve, a tour de force of artisanal building elevating the whole compound to the level of sculpture. Service is impeccable. Antonis and his crew are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and solicitous about the well-being of their guests, always on the alert for addressing any need or request. As for hygiene, it is up to the highest standards. I was genuinely surprised to read a negative comment by a guest in this respect. In our experience, the house was kept spotlessly clean at all times, the bed linen and bath towels were top quality and frequently changed and the mattresses were of the highest quality and spick and span. All in all, we cannot recommend Geitonia tis Irinis highly enough. .

What can I say more...this was my second year here and I had at least the same amazing experience like the first one. The hosts - Mr. Antonis, Florian, Dorina and all the team, are very professional, very kind, helpful and φιλόξενοι (hospitable) people. And if you are the kind of person that values pure beauty, serenity and simplicity at it's finest level, this location will fill your heart up with happiness, making you want not to ever leave this place. These absolutely beautiful houses, the garden full of colorful flowers, the small church, are also a living proof of the traditional cycladic way of living. You can see that everything is being maintained with lots of care and passion. This location is for sure the architectural masterpiece of Koufonisi island and I personally believe it's almost impossible to find something like this in the cycladic area. Do not expect too much modern technology (e.g. TV), since it's all the traditional cycladic way and in accordance to it, believe me, you don't need a TV. I share a deep respect and appreciation of everything related to Geitonia tis Irinis and I think it was God's gift of inspiration for Mr. Antonis to create such magical place and to get together so great team. Thank you from all my heart! I was blessed to find a heavenly place like this! P.s. I travelled many places in Greece and all over the world but my heart beats in a very, very special way for Geitonia tis Irinis and Koufonisi 💙

We stayed at the complex for 6 days mid June 19. It was the first time I went to Koufonisia and at this hotel. It is a complex of 15 or so traditional Greek-island rooms/ houses that can accommodate single visitors to families. They are build in an amphitheater shape mode, so that all rooms have sea view and privacy. I found our stay at this hotel very relaxing and the hospitality of Antonis and Florian extremely nice and helpful. The rest of the staff were also brilliant. The rooms were very clean and bed linen was changed on a regular basis. I recommend “Gitonia this Irinis” for a calm and relaxing stay at Koufonisia. It is an easy short walk to the town and the organized beaches. It is exactly how you would picture your vacations to be at the Greek islands.

I agree with reviewer "Demos." We stayed at this charming place, where the rooms were clean and the service was exceedingly accommodating. Yes, some in our party had a few mosquito bites, but are we to expect the management to have control over the mosquito population? Now that we've returned to our home in the States we dream about our stay at Gitona tis Irinis. We woud be blessed to return.

I recently stayed at Gitonia tis Irinis with a large group of friends for 6 nights, occupying nine of the fifteen or so units in the complex. We all had such a wonderful time that I felt compelled to go online and write a positive review of the place and thank the owner, Mr. Antonis, for making it all happen for us. Instead, after reading the previous review, I now find myself having to defend him from guest Lena’s “bed bug” complaint, to me an obvious attempt by this guest to get revenge for not scoring the rate discount she had hoped for. I say this because I was there and I personally heard and watched the whole scene when Ms. Lena tried to check out after a short stay with her family. Up until that point, there were no issues from any of the guests about bed bugs, just a few mosquito bite complaints I heard among our group. Then Ms. Lena starts shouting at the owner demanding a discount because her husband was bit by bed bugs, suspiciously during the last night of their stay before check-out? Antonis the owner, usually the calmest and most peaceful man, felt so provoked by this guest’s aggressive approach that he refused to give in and negotiate. Which made things worse as Ms. Lena started threatening to write bad reviews unless he reduced the agreed rate she owed. All of this, by the way, unfolding in front of us guests sitting on our balcony enjoying the end of a very relaxing vacation. It’s sad really because Gitonia tis Irinis couldn’t be more serene or peaceful. Then you get one demanding guest with a nasty review trying to ruin it for all of us. I hope this sets the record straight. This place deserves better.

We were bitten by bed bugs. My husband woke up in extreme pain in the middle of the night and we discovered 40 bites on his back from bed bugs!! Horrible unpolite owner, who mocked us, although we showed him the bites! He was very rude demanding the arranged money for the room! We discuss the incident with other tourists of the complex and they showed us their bites too!!! Having a small child we would never go back there again!! Stay away!!

Antonis Mavros - also known as Antonaros (The Big guy) - has built a whole small village with his own hands and with the help of Florian (his buddy technician) which has become today a very picturesque and exquisite - yet simple in form and function - block of small villas, full of flowers. There is a small church in the middle of the estate and the whole surrounding is serene (as the nickname 'Galina Spitakia' implies.
