#8 of 22 Specialty lodging in Koufonissi
Gitonia tis Irinis on Koufonisi is a characteristic example of Cycladic hospitality and harmony, an artistic and architectural creation of Antonios Mavros. Each house is autonomous and from its veranda offers guests a sea view of tranquility and an aura of sea breeze. It is an ideal destination for those who love and respect man as an integral part of nature.

After a great stay here in 2018 we decided to return. So glad we did. This unique and picturesque "complex" of traditional Greek rooms is just as gorgeous. The blue painted rooms all have their own shady verandahs and the whole site is extremely pretty, complete with small church in the middle. See the website which accurately describes the complex and how the rooms were designed and constructed. Gitonia tis Irinis is well managed and it shows. Rooms are immaculately clean and well maintained and very comfortable. We were able to book the same room we had 2 years ago and it's as lovely now as it was then. There are different sizes/styles of rooms, but ours had a spacious bedroom (fridge in one corner with kettle and few cups and plates) and bathroom. Some have a kitchen area. A very comfortable room with screens on the windows and a fan (no aircon). From Gitonia tis Irinis it's less than 10 minutes walk to Chora and the port, passing one of the beaches. If you go in the other direction it's a 10 minute walk to Finikas Beach where there's a restaurant right next to the beach. Location could not be better and value for money is outstanding. Highly recommended.

After a first stay at the Gitonia tis Irinis in 2010, we returned in late June 2019 and were happy to find out that the place remains as unique as we remembered it. Its location is ideal, midway between the Chora and the first beach. The houses are arranged around a large lush garden, resembling a small village, complete with a little picturesque church in their midst. They are painted in a soothing light-blue shade and were built according to traditional local designs and techniques, with some inspired twists from master-builder Antonis. Each one is graced with individual embellishments such as inlaid pieces of weather-beaten wood, arched over rounded openings in a wall or forming a comfortable headrest over the bed. Simplicity and functionality, combined with high aesthetics, reign supreme, including the kitchenette area and the bathroom. Small windows judiciously placed here and there allow for the natural cooling of the rooms. The little terraces in front are ideal for relaxing with a book or just taking in the view. A striking feature is that there is not one square angle in the room or the terrace; every surface ends in a soft hand-fashioned curve, a tour de force of artisanal building elevating the whole compound to the level of sculpture. Service is impeccable. Antonis and his crew are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and solicitous about the well-being of their guests, always on the alert for addressing any need or request. As for hygiene, it is up to the highest standards. I was genuinely surprised to read a negative comment by a guest in this respect. In our experience, the house was kept spotlessly clean at all times, the bed linen and bath towels were top quality and frequently changed and the mattresses were of the highest quality and spick and span. All in all, we cannot recommend Geitonia tis Irinis highly enough. .

Best place ever, best people ever. Everything was perfect, location, rooms, hospitality, kindness, cleaness. An harmonious little village managed by a special crew. So nice that we’re sorry not to keep it a secret ;) Ludovico, Michela, Davide.

What can I say more...this was my second year here and I had at least the same amazing experience like the first one. The hosts - Mr. Antonis, Florian, Dorina and all the team, are very professional, very kind, helpful and φιλόξενοι (hospitable) people. And if you are the kind of person that values pure beauty, serenity and simplicity at it's finest level, this location will fill your heart up with happiness, making you want not to ever leave this place. These absolutely beautiful houses, the garden full of colorful flowers, the small church, are also a living proof of the traditional cycladic way of living. You can see that everything is being maintained with lots of care and passion. This location is for sure the architectural masterpiece of Koufonisi island and I personally believe it's almost impossible to find something like this in the cycladic area. Do not expect too much modern technology (e.g. TV), since it's all the traditional cycladic way and in accordance to it, believe me, you don't need a TV. I share a deep respect and appreciation of everything related to Geitonia tis Irinis and I think it was God's gift of inspiration for Mr. Antonis to create such magical place and to get together so great team. Thank you from all my heart! I was blessed to find a heavenly place like this! P.s. I travelled many places in Greece and all over the world but my heart beats in a very, very special way for Geitonia tis Irinis and Koufonisi 💙

We stayed at the complex for 6 days mid June 19. It was the first time I went to Koufonisia and at this hotel. It is a complex of 15 or so traditional Greek-island rooms/ houses that can accommodate single visitors to families. They are build in an amphitheater shape mode, so that all rooms have sea view and privacy. I found our stay at this hotel very relaxing and the hospitality of Antonis and Florian extremely nice and helpful. The rest of the staff were also brilliant. The rooms were very clean and bed linen was changed on a regular basis. I recommend “Gitonia this Irinis” for a calm and relaxing stay at Koufonisia. It is an easy short walk to the town and the organized beaches. It is exactly how you would picture your vacations to be at the Greek islands.
