We spent one night here on our way to the Munich Airport. It was a very quiet hotel in a quaint town. The rooms provided all that we needed. The breakfast was very good. The hotel staff is very friendly and quite helpful. We were there for the weekly dinner buffet they have. A lot of locals come also. This one was typical Bavarian fare and very good. The portions were large and seconds were encouraged! It was very reasonably priced. We were very happy that we picked this hotel. The wifi was the best we had during our whole trip.
Rooms are comfortable. The hotel is off of the main route (11), which means it is quieter than many of the other establishments in Kochel. Their breakfasts are served in a lovely Bavarian nook. The biggest downside was that the hotel was closed for the duration of our visit. Apparently they are closed every tuesday and wednesday. This was news to us. The weather was terrible during our visit, and we were really looking forward to laying low and eating at the hotel. That wasn't an option. There was also nobody to ask questions like where else can I go to dinner that is open on a tuesday and doesn't close before 7 pm? We had to walk around in the rain until we found something. And I didn't know if they would still have breakfast for us. All we had was a little note with our name on it that was left on the front door of the hotel that told us the hotel was closed on Tuesday and Wednesday and instructed us where to find our key. In the end, yes, breakfast was served but I think communication could definitely have been better.…
There is a reason this hotel ranks number one on Trip Advisor (or should): the Gerg family who run the establishment. The father and daughter team are outstanding hosts, always cheerful and always accommodating. We had a room with wraparound balcony looking out towards the mountains. (The hotel is not on the lake so no water view and the lake is a bit of a hike.) But it is close to the Franz Marc museum and local restaurants. The food is great if you stay for dinner but the restaurant is closed two evenings a week. Breakfasts are hearty and the Gergs will make you eggs. The room was sparkling clean with a large bathroom with tub. There is ample closet and drawer space for unpacking. There is a room safe and a hair dryer. From Kochel one can set out for lakes and mountains as well as other nearby landmarks and museums.…
I got lucky - my exact words as I checked into this great little place. basically threw a dart at a map and chose this spot, looked at the reviews on tripadvisor and immediately pulled the trigger. We got a room with a balcony which was well worth it. Family owned, operated, and it shows - I hated to leave. The Friday evening BBQ/grilling is the highlight of the week for the restaurant. Bavarian cold and hot dishes. Close to Franz Marc Museum and gravesite.
We loved our stay here. Kochel is a lovely small village on a beautiful lake and is easy driving distance to may wonderful sights. We had 4 nights and would definitely stay there again. Free car parking and good wifi coverage was a bonus.
