We arrived and found the place locked and shut with a sign indicating a return Qat 5.00pm then found our prior booking not recorded! Luckily we were the only ones wanting rooms. Ours had the en suite and we enjoyed the comfort and the ready availability of the breakfast and TV room for the two nights we were there. Breakfast was ample but some bread was mouldy and had to be thrown out. Flies were a constant nuisance, Enjoyed the famous fish and chips BUT the roast beef sandwich we had for an evening meal was Chewy and needed heating. In fact the three of us had some upset tummies in the night following ! We departed without seeing management. But fair to say Kiri was a very helpful acting Manager when she was there.we enjoyed the famed fish and chips as did others who had travelled over from Wellington city for the experience. We are glad to say in hindsight that the venture to the area was well worth the effort and a good starting point for our Wairarapa road trip !

After a long and excited journey to Lake Ferry Hotel my family tried to check in, the duty manager said quite cleary in front of us to another staff member "they can wait" when she had time to return to us to check us in we were told quite abruptly that our room wasn't ready. There was no, I'm sorry your room isn't ready please take a seat have a drink or something to eat and we'll let you know when you can check in. A bad start, which made us regret making the booking and never wanting to return again. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we felt we weren't welcome, instead we went to Pirinoa and were treated so well at the Land Girl Cafe that we returned there the next day for our dinner. I don't recommend anyone staying at Lake Ferry Hotel it's just not worth it. The bathroom facilities are questionable and the rooms need more in them such as a mini fridge or tea/coffee making area. The shame of it all is that my colleagues and friends all told me what a wonderful place Lake Ferry Hotel was, the service has definitely taken a permanent nose dive.

We had booked the only room in the hotel with an en-suite bathroom (which we require), and had got not only written confirmation, but also a phone call to confirm. Then, upon arrival, we were told that the room had been given to another booking. Even after showing our written confirmation, they refused to budge, and said we could have a different room, but with shared facilities (not an option for us). They lied directly to our face, at least twice, during our discussions, and the attitude was definitely, "we don't care". We were never abusive or angry, and we were very clear about our position. They knew they had stuffed up, but were not willing to put it right, and simply said we had to take their offer, or go home. We went home. Don't touch this place with a barge pole - they are the only hotel in the area, so they feel they can do whatever they want (which they do), and get away with it.

My wife and I (along with several other groups in the car park) waited for several hours for the Hotel to open it's doors at 5pm as promised by the sign on the door. By 5.50 it became obvious that this was a lie. With dusk falling and no idea whether or not we would be able to book a room there we had no choice but to leave to look for alternative accommodation 30klms away. Someone once said "There are hundreds of reasons for a man to be late but only one is true: His word is no good" Utterly disgraceful behavior from an establishment that is supposed to serve the public. Steer well clear of any place that treats potential customers with such utter contempt.

We went to the Cape Palliser on a very hot day 30°. We decided to go into lake ferry wanting a cold beer with friends and family. We Went into the bar and were greeted by who I believe is the manager who told us that we were shut and no longer serving. I could not believe it as it was over 30° and this was only 3 o’clock in the afternoon. The sign on the door said it was open from 10 am till 10 pm. I find it hard to believe that they could turn away a total of 12 people who are willing to Put money over the bar and give them patronage. Obviously they didn’t want business and would not recommend going back to this pub. This is a real shame because it has a nice outlook on to the sea and it would’ve been nice to have a couple of drinks.
