More

Unfortunately this BBH was very dirty, the shower room and the toilet were disgusting. Ian is a very nice and helpful person, but tidiness is not known in this accomodation. Even the kitchen is not clean... We stayed 2 nights and in the middle of the night the fire alarm rings very very loud. We have been shocked!

Ian is the owner here at this awesome hostel and he's just the kind of guy you want to meet on your journey to wherever you might be going. The first thing he told us to do was to get off the internet and to connect with other travelers in his hostel. Ian completely altered the rest of our trip... More

I stayed one night at the lodge and had a very nice stay. The owner is very friendly and helpful, the place very colorful with lots of murals everywhere. The outside lounge (in a garage) has a pool table and table tennis, the inside lounge a nice fireplace and a sweet cat walking around. There are heaps of couches everywhere... More

After finishing Tongariro traverse, We were facing freezing temperatures sleeping in our van, struggled by the cold. There was no way out, everywhere just bitingly cold On the desperate search for a hot shower we discovered the Samura Lodge The owner Ian was the light of the chilly dark night for us With his warm, caring and helpful hospitality We... Ask to see the room before you book/pay!!! So glad we dodged a bullet here - had read about it on tripadvisor and went to book it on hotels.com but thought we would just arrive and check it out first instead. Oh my it was "rustic" aka Very run down. Horrific conditions in the rooms torn beds/bedsheets. Kitchen seemed to... More

Totally confused, my friend and I ended up in Turangi, where the last bus to our booked hostel, already had gone....What do you do? You check in at A-plus hostel instead, and within 2 seconds you are picked up by Ian (the owner), driven to your place and given a hot cup of tea. We stayed there for two nights... More

The friendly and familiar atmosphere makes you feel good and comfortable right away! Ian is extremely nice, he helped us out and answered all our questions. The room was nice and clean. I would definitely reccomend this place, it is cheap and you feel very welcome.

...and only Ian would understand this joke :P The heart and soul of this establishment is obviously Ian, the owner. If you have just landed in NZ, just show him your itinerary and see him do his magic. Plus the way he lets his guests let their imagination and art spill all over is just amazing to see. He helped... Stayed here by mistake over the Easter weekend not by first choice! It was a bit of a shock to see all the graffiti on the walls, hand written signs all over the place warning about 10am check out time, 1970's type decorations, unkempt surroundings and facilities all in need of refurbishment. We had a double room with hand basin... More
