The hostel is old and looks ramshackle /rundown. Lots of graffiti on the walls, that I guess somebody thought would look like art, but it really just likes like some sort of abandoned building. Beds are of terrible quality. Kitchen and room were dirty, the sink in the room has not been cleaned in probably a year, there were hairs...

It was the perfect place to stay for the Tongariro Crossing. The owner gave me really good tipps and organized a FREE shuttle for me! So if you want to save money, then come to that hostel! Cheers, Tom

While I wouldn't consider myself a "professional" backpacker I have stayed in quite a few hostels and this is by far the worst. The owner was always making unfunny jokes to the point where it was just awkward, made worse by the fact we were a group of non-native English speakers. The bedrooms were dirty with the rules of hostel...

I only came for the night but was welcomed to the place by the very friendly owners. Had I not been exhausted from my day I would have enjoyed chatting with them. Very interesting place and quirky. Lots to see and things to make you smile. Good value and just the basics that I needed.

When the weather turned cold on our camping trip, we treated ourselves to a night in a double room. We got a super-friendly welcome with lots of useful advice for things to see around the local area. Our room was basic but comfy, clean and cosy. Glorious hot blasting shower. Awesome kitchen. Felt like home.

This place all a large collection of items from all across New Zealand that makes it feel like an immersive museum or cultural exhibit. The owner Ian is great for a yarn an cares about your experience, when we told him our planned activities he gave sound advice as well as some vouchers.

Real talk. It's not glamorous, it's a backpackers. Its eclectic, a collection of decades of visitors momentos and artworks, it's a bit of a maze, and it's beautiful. Ian and family are of a rare breed, and will go out of their way to make sure you have the best possible experience. If you're willing to share a bit of...

Quick stay in this backpacker : friendly staff , clean accommodation & near to Tongariro National Park. The backpacker is well equipped : all the material for the kitchen and the living room. We loved to stay there even if it was a night.
